Designing, Implementing and Optimising a Capacity‑Building Model for Infectious Disease Modelling in India.

Mathematical models are not integrated into the policy‑making process in low‑ and middle‑income countries, including India, primarily due to limited capacity in building mathematical models, lack of trust in the model findings and the reluctance of policy‑makers to apply the model findings to formulate policies. There is a perceived need to create a critical mass of trained infectious disease experts and modelers within the public health and clinical domain. Thus, with the support of the Department of Health Research (DHR), we developed a 3‑month post‑graduate (PG) certificate course on infectious disease modelling, the first of such a course in India.

Effects of vitamin D supplementation on oxidative stress and antioxidant enzyme after strenuous endurance exercise in healthy young men: a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Vitamin D exhibits strong antioxidant properties. However, its effect on oxidative stress after strenuous endurance exercise remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated the effects of vitamin D supplementation on strenuous endurance-exercise-induced oxidative stress.

Successful pregnancy outcome in a recipient of simultaneous pancreatic kidney transplantation.

There is limited information available regarding post-simultaneous pancreatic kidney transplantation (SPKT) pregnancies. The present case describes a woman in her early 30s with first pregnancy who conceived spontaneously 4 years after SPKT. Her pancreatic and kidney graft function remained stable throughout the pregnancy.

Localization in primary hyperparathyroidism.

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the main cause of hypercalcemia, resulting predominantly from parathyroid adenomas followed by hyperplasia. Diagnosis relies on clinical and biochemical parameters. Accurate pre-operative localization is mandatory for better surgical outcome.

Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma with intrapancreatic nodal metastases masquerading as pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour with hepatic metastases.

Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FL-HCC) is a primary liver tumour presenting at a young age. Aggressive surgery of FL-HCC is the mainstay of management unlike other malignancies where metastatic stage precludes curative surgery. There are limited reports of response of FL-HCC to systemic therapies predominantly owing to its rarity.

Anterior uveitis, pigmentary retinopathy, and pars plana exudates in Celiac disease.

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral anterior uveitis, pigmentary retinopathy, and pars plana exudates in a patient with Celiac disease with complete resolution of inflammation following gluten-free diet.

Methods: Retrospective case report.

Results: A 19-year-old Asian Indian girl presented with bilateral non-granulomatous anterior uveitis for the past 2 months.

Introduction of an Online Mentoring Program for Final Professional MBBS Students.

Background: Mentoring helps in the personal and professional development of mentees and helps them develop self-confidence in their work. Final-year undergraduate medical students face many challenges but they also have to gain the confidence to start working independently and plan their careers in the near future. In the coronavirus disease scenario, many of these challenges were amplified, and final-year students were in greater need of mentoring.

The Captopril Challenge Test Predicts Cardiac Structure and Dysfunction in Primary Aldosteronism.

Context: The captopril challenge test (CCT) is a commonly used confirmation test that identifies the magnitude of renin- and angiotensin II-independent aldosterone production, and thus the presence and severity of primary aldosteronism (PA).

Objective: This study investigated the association between the post-CCT plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and cardiovascular remodeling and diastolic dysfunction.

Methods: A total of 540 PA patients with complete CCT and echocardiographic data were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: In regions with a high prevalence of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, coinfected patients face a heightened risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), termed HBV/HCV-related HCC (HBCV-HCC). We aimed to investigate the contribution of preexisting chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and subsequent chronic hepatitis C (CHC) to the development of HBCV-HCC.

Methods: We examined HBV's involvement in 93 HBCV-HCC cases by analyzing HBV DNA integration as an indicator of HCC originating from HBV-infected hepatocytes, compared with 164 HBV-HCCs and 56 HCV-HCCs as controls.

In the post-large era, various COVID-19 sequelae are getting more and more attention to health problems. Although the mortality rate of the COVID-19 infection is now declining, it is often accompanied by new clinical sequelae with different symptoms such as fatigue after infection, loss of smell. The degree of age, gender, virus infection seems to be weakly correlated with clinical symptoms.

An evaluation of the effectiveness of an updated pre-service midwifery curriculum integrated with emergency obstetric and newborn care in Kenya: a cluster randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: Quality midwifery education is central to improving midwifery service delivery and maternal and newborn health outcomes. In many settings, midwifery educators insufficiently prepared for their teaching role and deficient curriculum compared to international standards affect the quality of healthcare provided by the midwifery graduates. This study assessed the effectiveness of an EmONC enhanced midwifery curriculum delivered by trained and mentored midwifery educators on the quality of education and student performance in Kenya.

DS-Cav1, SC-TM, and DS2 are distinct designer pre-fusion F proteins (pre-F) of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) developed for vaccines. However, their immunogenicity has not been directly compared. In this study, we generated three recombinant vaccines using the chimpanzee adenovirus vector AdC68 to express DS-Cav1, SC-TM, and DS2.

Background: A digital supportive supervision (DiSS) tool was developed and implemented in Rajasthan, India, to enhance the coverage and quality of maternal health, child health and nutrition (MCHN) services. This study aims to assess the impact and cost-effectiveness of DiSS compared to traditional paper-based supportive supervision.

Methods And Analysis: A quasi-experimental research design incorporating interrupted time series regression analysis will be employed to evaluate the impact of DiSS.

Panel of known genetic mutations (SPINK1, PRSS1, PRSS2, CTRC, and CFTR) in patients with Fibrocalcific pancreatic diabetes (FCPD)compared to Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) and healthy controls with emphasis on SPINK1 (N34S) mutations. Whole blood samples were used to detect mutations by PCR followed by Sanger sequencing. In-silico analysis of N34S performed, to explore role in pathogenesis.
