Oxidative stress and inflammation accompany endothelial dysfunction that results from the excessive or uncontrolled production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in older adults. This study was designed to assess the usefulness of serum oxi-inflammatory component combinations in vascular disease prediction and prevention with regard to sex. Women ( = 145) and men ( = 50) aged 72.

Background And Objectives: Pulp calcification is associated with many factors and triggers, including individual genetic predisposition and orthodontic forces. This study aimed to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms in are associated with a risk of dental pulp calcifications in orthodontic patients.
Materials And Methods: Digital orthopantomography (OPG) and genomic DNA from 132 patients were analyzed in this cross-sectional study.

Protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) function as key molecules in the signaling pathways in addition to their impact as a therapeutic target for the treatment of many human diseases, including cancer. PTKs are characterized by their ability to phosphorylate serine, threonine, or tyrosine residues and can thereby rapidly and reversibly alter the function of their protein substrates in the form of significant changes in protein confirmation and affinity for their interaction with protein partners to drive cellular functions under normal and pathological conditions. PTKs are classified into two groups: one of which represents tyrosine kinases, while the other one includes the members of the serine/threonine kinases.

The chronological age estimation of living individuals is a crucial part of forensic practice and clinical practice, such as in orthodontic treatment. It is well-known that methods for age estimation in living children should be tested on different populations. Ethnic affiliations in Brazil are divided into several major groups depending on the region, with the south of Brazil being known for its German immigration.

Strong epigenetic pan-cancer biomarkers are required to meet several current, urgent clinical needs and to further improve the present chemotherapeutic standard. We have concentrated on the investigation of epigenetic alteration of the gene, which is frequently epigenetically dysregulated in a number of cancers in specific developmental stages. Distinct DNA methylation profiles were identified in our data on early urothelial cancer.

Introduction: The hermetic closure of the dura mater is a critical step in neurosurgical training, often undervalued but crucial to preventing serious complications such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks leading to meningitis and death. Inadequate closure, often due to insufficient training, can result in challenging complications, including prolonged hospitalization and reoperation.
Objective: To address the deficiencies in dural closure training, this study aims to describe a 3D prototype for simulating post-craniotomy dura mater suturing.

Based on the impressive success of Car-T-cell therapy in the treatment of hematological malignancies, a broad application for solid tumors also appears promising. However, some important hurdles need to be overcome. One of these is certainly the identification of specific target antigens on cancer cells.

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) imaging using computer simulations is an evolving technology. There is a lack of strong data on the use of this technology for oncoplastic (OP) and reconstructive surgery.
Methods: A prospective, randomized, single-center trial including breast cancer patients undergoing OP or mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction with implant (IBR) enrolled from November 2019 to October 2021 at the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, Breast Unit in Curitiba, Brazil.

Cardiac surgeries often result in significant postoperative pain, leading to considerable use of opioids for pain management. However, excessive opioid use can lead to undesirable side effects and chronic opioid use. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate whether preoperative intrathecal morphine could reduce postoperative opioid consumption in patients undergoing cardiac surgery requiring sternotomy.

We present a case study of a patient exhibiting acquired microcephaly along with global developmental delay and drug-resistant epilepsy. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed distinctive features, including a Z-shaped morphology of the brainstem, volumetric reduction of white matter, diffuse thinning of the corpus callosum, and partial fusion of the cerebellar hemispheres at their most cranial portion. Whole-exome sequencing uncovered a pathogenic variant in the ARF3 gene c.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic systemic disease characterized by a multifactorial nature, which may lead to several macro and microvascular complications. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most severe microvascular complications of DM, which can result in permanent blindness. The mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of DR are multiple and still poorly understood.

Photoaging is the premature aging of the skin caused by prolonged exposure to solar radiation. The visual alterations manifest as wrinkles, reduced skin elasticity, uneven skin tone, as well as other signs that surpass the expected outcomes of natural aging. Beyond these surface changes, there is a complex interplay of molecular alterations, encompassing shifts in cellular function, DNA damage, and protein composition disruptions.

Laparoscopic instrument handles design and dimensions are crucial to determine the configuration of surgeons' hand grip and, therefore, can have a deleterious effect on overall surgical efficiency and surgeons' comfort. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of laparoscopic handle size and hand surface area on surgical task performance. A single-blind, randomized crossover trial was carried out with 29 novice medical students.

Background: The process of tissue injury in coronary artery disease (CAD) has been associated with activation of the complement system, partly due to the action of mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and C3, which are expressed in atherosclerotic lesions.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum levels of MBL and C3 in patients with CAD and to compare them with healthy controls. Additionally, we aim to assess the correlation between MBL and C3 levels and cardiometabolic parameters.

Statement Of Problem: The type of veneer preparation is often chosen according to the patient's tooth structure and occlusion. Taking biomechanics into account in this decision-making process provides the clinician with more technical information on how to improve the clinical longevity of restorations. However, biomechanical analyses of veneer preparation designs are sparse.
