Sustainable animal production: exploring the benefits of sperm sexing technologies in addressing critical industry challenges.

The sex of the animals is of paramount importance in many animal production systems. This is particularly evident in the production of milk or in breeding programs focused on the production of female animals. In some cases, slaughter or euthanasia of animals of the unwanted sex becomes the only solution, highlighting ethical and economic concerns.

Development of a preoperative risk score on admission in surgical intermediate care unit in gastrointestinal cancer surgery.

Background: Gastrointestinal cancer surgery continues to be a significant cause of postoperative complications and mortality in high-risk patients. It is crucial to identify these patients. Our study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of specific perioperative risk assessment tools to predict postoperative complications, identifying the most informative variables and combining them to test their prediction ability as a new score.

High-Risk human papillomavirus genotype distribution in the Northern region of Portugal: Data from regional cervical cancer screening program.

High-Risk Human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) full genotyping methods have been described as of great potential use in epidemiology and preventive strategies, including cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination. We characterized the prevalence and distribution of HR-HPV genotypes in cervico-vaginal samples obtained from the Regional Cervical Cancer Screening Program from the Northern Region of Portugal. HR-HPV genotyping was performed using Anyplex™ II HPV-HR Detection kit in 105,458 women enrolled between August 2016 and December 2017.

P53 deregulation in Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric cancer.

TP53 is a tumour suppressor gene frequently mutated in human cancers; nevertheless, in EBV-associated malignancies mutations are uncommon despite frequent deregulation of the p53 pathway. In this study, we aimed to investigate p53 expression, TP53 mRNA levels and TP53 mutations in EBV-associated gastric carcinoma (EBVaGC). A case-control study was performed using 46 patients: 15 EBVaGC and 31 EBV-negative GC (EBVnGC) cases.
