Objective: High body mass index (BMI) may reduce ulcerative colitis (UC) treatment efficacy. Etrasimod is an oral, once-daily (QD), selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P)1,4,5 receptor modulator for the treatment of moderately to severely active UC. This post hoc analysis assessed treatment outcomes according to BMI in ELEVATE UC 52 and ELEVATE UC 12.

Background: Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma incidence is increasing, especially among women under 60, largely attributed to human papillomavirus infections. Precursor pre-invasive vulvar lesions are frequently underdiagnosed. Routine vulvar inspection during cervical cancer screening could offer an opportunity for the detection of these lesions.

This study uses a combination of the FLEXPART Lagrangian dispersion model with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) mesoscale Eulerian model (FLEXPART-WRF) to analyze the expected mid- to late-century changes in the moisture sources and sinks of the North American East Coast (ENA) and the Gulf of Mexico (GM), as well as their most relevant abrupt moisture transport events-atmospheric rivers (ARs) and low-level jets of the Great Plains (GPLLJ) and the Caribbean (CLLJ). Both the ENA and GM are expected to increase in importance as moisture source regions over the century, both overall and in their contributions to the ARs and both LLJs. A notable increase in the intensity of the GPLLJ and CLLJ moisture sources is also observed.

Introduction: Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (VA-ECMO) has emerged as a crucial component of critical care medicine, mainly as a lifesaving intervention for patients experiencing refractory cardiac arrest and respiratory failure.
Background: In the past, VA-ECMO decannulation was surgical and often associated with a high rate of periprocedural complications, such as surgical site infection, bleeding, and patient mobilization costs. To reduce the rate of these adverse events, many percutaneous techniques utilizing suture-mediated closing devices have been adopted.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health concern. One of the most important causes of AMR is the excessive and inappropriate use of antimicrobial drugs in healthcare and community settings. Most countries have policies that require antimicrobial drugs to be obtained from a pharmacy by prescription.

Introduction: Vascular trainees are required to have a comprehensive training program, encompassing the completion of clinical, surgical, and research tasks. To fulfill their surgical abilities and performance, sufficient supervised operating time is mandatory. After open vascular procedures, it has been observed that trainee involvement does not lead to detrimental outcomes.

The conformational isomerization of nitrous acid (HONO) promoted by excitation of the or stretching normal coordinates is the first observed case of an infrared-induced photochemical reaction. The energy captured by the excited normal modes is redistributed into a highly excited vibrational level of the torsion normal coordinate, which is the isomerization reaction coordinate. Herein, we present simple numerical methods to qualitatively investigate the coupling between the normal coordinates and the possible gateways for vibrational energy redistribution leading to the isomerization process.

Infectious viral pathogens significantly impact wild Leporidae populations, particularly , which was listed as 'Endangered' in 2019. Myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease are major contributors to severe epizootics with limited long-lasting immunity. This study expanded beyond these well-documented viruses to include a broader spectrum of viruses in 36 wild rabbit carcasses () collected from the field in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024, and 32 wild rabbits hunted in 2017/2018.

Background: Evidence suggests that healthcare professionals often feel uncomfortable discussing vaccination with patients, largely due to a lack of training on the topic. In line with the scientific evidence gathered from the VAX-TRUST project, it is crucial to invest in training healthcare professionals and developing political measures to effectively address vaccine hesitancy. This paper explores the importance of training healthcare professionals to address vaccine hesitancy and provides concrete strategies for its implementation.

Bacterial biofilms formed by and pose significant challenges in treating cystic fibrosis (CF) airway infections due to their resistance to antibiotics. New therapeutic approaches are urgently needed to treat these chronic infections. This study aimed to investigate the antibiofilm potential of various plant extracts, specifically targeting mucoid and small colony variants of and and strains.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a very common gynaecologic condition affecting women of reproductive age worldwide. BV is characterized by a depletion of lactic acid-producing species and an increase in strict and facultative anaerobic bacteria that develop a polymicrobial biofilm on the vaginal epithelium. Despite multiple decades of research, the etiology of this infection is still not clear.

Pyriproxyfen (PPF) acts as a juvenile growth regulator, interfering with normal metamorphosis and blocking the development of insects into adulthood. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the use of PPF at a concentration of 0.01 mg/L as unlikely to pose health risks, recent studies have unveiled potential risks associated with PPF exposure to non-target organisms.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is technologically relevant due to its thermal stability; chemical, mechanical and radiation resistance; transparency; biocompatibility; and ease of processing. Several of those applications are related to its high electroactivity, for which the β-phase of the polymer is its most renowned protagonist. In this context, extensive research has been conducted on the crystallization of PVDF in the β-phase, when processed from melt and from solution.

Background: This cross-sectional study aimed to compare the composition of the submucosal microbiome of peri-implantitis with paired and unpaired healthy implant samples.
Methods: We evaluated submucosal plaque samples obtained in 39 cases, including 13 cases of peri-implantitis, 13 cases involving healthy implants from the same patient (paired samples), and 13 cases involving healthy implants from different individuals (unpaired samples). The patients were evaluated using next-generation genomic sequencing (Illumina) based on 16S rRNA gene amplification.

In the present in vitro study, we evaluated the adhesion of an injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) to laser-textured zirconia surfaces and their resultant friction behavior against bone tissue. Three types of zirconia surfaces were compared regarding the i-PRF coating effects: 1) grit blasted with 250-μm spherical alumina particles and acid etched with 20% hydrofluoric acid (ZLA), 2) laser textured with a random (RD) surface pattern, or 3) laser textured with a designed pattern based on 16 lines and 8 passages (L16N8). The coefficient of friction (COF) of the specimens was assessed on a reciprocating sliding pin-on-plate tribometer at 1-N normal load, 1 Hz, and a 2-mm stroke length.

Ornithopods are an extinct group of dinosaurs that were particularly abundant and diverse in the Cretaceous of the Iberian Peninsula, and whose abundance in the Maestrazgo Basin has allowed numerous taxa to be identified over the last decade. Many of these fossil remains are still taxonomically indeterminate and require a more detailed study on both a macroscopic and microscopic scale. In this contribution, an osteohistological analysis is carried out on a partial skeleton-composed of five incomplete vertebrae, two dorsal ribs, an ischium, a fibula, and a tibia-found in the province of Aliaga (Teruel, NE Spain).
