Ovarian cancer (OC) presents daunting lethality rates worldwide, with frequent late-stage diagnosis and chemoresistance, highlighting the need for improved prognostic approaches. Venous thromboembolism (VTE), a major cancer mortality factor, is partially driven by endothelial dysfunction (ED). ED's pro-inflammatory state fosters tumour progression, suggesting a VTE-independent link between ED and cancer.

Tendon structure is predominantly composed of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and genetic variants in non-collagenous ECM components may influence susceptibility to tendinopathy. We investigated the potential influence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in fibrillin-2 (), tenascin-C (), and matrix metalloproteinase-3 () on the tendon regeneration failure phenotype and impact on the susceptibility to tendinopathy in Brazilian high-performance athletes. This case-control study was conducted with 397 high-performance athletes from different sports modalities (197 tendinopathy cases and 200 controls), and they were analyzed by validated TaqMan SNP genotyping assays of the SNPs (rs331079), (rs2104772), and (rs591058).

Several techniques exist to maintain oral and/or enteral feeding among esophageal cancer (EC) patients, but their impact on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) remains unclear. This systematic review aimed to assess the impact of nutritional support techniques on PROs in EC patients. We searched Medline, Web of Science, and CINAHL Complete from inception to 3 April 2024.

With the advent of chimeric antigen receptors T-cell therapy, understanding their role in the development of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis has become increasingly complex. We describe a case of a young patient with Epstein-Barr virus-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, who was treated with axicabtagene ciloleucel. The patient developed progressive cytopenia and, on Day 73 post-infusion, met criteria for hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed tumours among men. Second-generation androgen receptor axis-targeted (ARAT) agents, namely abiraterone acetate (AbA) and enzalutamide (ENZ), are currently used in the management of metastatic castration-resistant PC (mCRPC). However, the treatment is challenging due to the lack of prognostic biomarkers.

Background And Aims: Gastric cancer (GC) is the third cause of cancer mortality worldwide. A screening strategy that combines an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGIE) with a screening colonoscopy may be cost-effective in intermediate-risk regions. This study aimed to evaluate the intention to adhere to combined endoscopic screening and assess knowledge of GC symptoms, risk factors, and barriers to screening.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is a leading cause of death among gynaecological malignancies. The haemostatic system, which controls blood flow and prevents clotting disorders, paradoxically drives OC progression while increasing the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as crucial in understanding VTE pathogenesis.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the deadliest gynaecological malignancy. Identifying new prognostic biomarkers is an important research field. Haemostatic components together with leukocytes can drive cancer progression while increasing the susceptibility to venous thromboembolism (VTE) through immunothrombosis.

Background: This literature review explores the role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil-lymphocyte-to-platelet ratio (NLPR) biomarkers, as potential indicators for predicting bacteremia and sepsis in patients with cancer.
Objective: Tracing the evolution of interest in this area since 2001, the aim of this review was to report a comprehensive overview of current knowledge and gaps, particularly in patients undergoing immunosuppression.
Summary Of Findings: The literature research indicates the potential of NLR, PLR, and other biomarkers in diagnosing and predicting sepsis, with some studies emphasizing their value in mortality prediction.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a challenging clinical obstacle in oncological settings, marked by elevated incidence rates and resulting morbidity and mortality. In the context of cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT), endothelial dysfunction (ED) plays a crucial role in promoting a pro-thrombotic environment as endothelial cells lose their ability to regulate blood flow and coagulation. Moreover, emerging research suggests that this disorder may not only contribute to CAT but also impact tumorigenesis itself.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a life-threatening haemostatic disease frequently diagnosed among the cancer population. The Khorana Score is currently the primal risk assessment model to stratify oncological patients according to their susceptibility to VTE, however, it displays a limited performance. Meanwhile, intensive research on VTE pathophysiology in the general population has uncovered a range of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the condition.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the female genital malignancy with the highest lethality. Patients present a poor prognosis mainly due to the late clinical presentation allied with the common acquisition of chemoresistance and a high rate of tumour recurrence. Effective screening, accurate diagnosis, and personalised multidisciplinary treatments are crucial for improving patients' survival and quality of life.

Ovarian cancer (OC) and venous thromboembolism (VTE) have a close relationship, in which tumour cells surpass the haemostatic system to drive cancer progression. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in VTE pathogenesis, yet their roles in cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) and their prognostic value are unexplored. Understanding how these lncRNAs influence venous thrombogenesis and ovarian tumorigenesis may lead to the identification of valuable biomarkers for VTE and OC management.

This study aims to estimate the prevalence and to identify the determinants of cancer-related neuropathic pain (CRNP), chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and cognitive decline among patients with breast cancer over five years after diagnosis. Women with an incident breast cancer (n = 462) and proposed for surgery were recruited at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology-Porto in 2012 and underwent systematic neurological examinations and evaluations with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) before treatment and after one, three, and five years. Multivariate logistic regression was used to assess the determinants of CRNP and CIPN, and multivariate linear regression for the variation in MoCA scores.

Cancer patients are often diagnosed with venous thromboembolism (VTE), a cardiovascular disease that substantially decreases their quality of life and survival rate. Haemostasis in these patients is deregulated, which is reflected in the common presentation of a blood hypercoagulation state. Despite the inconsistent results, existing evidence suggests that the expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) is deregulated in the context of venous thrombogenesis in the general population.
