Familial syringomas were diagnosed in a 37-year-old female with lesions on the vulva/face/trunk and with periorbital lesions in family members. A correct and early diagnosis of vulvar syringomas is important as these can be erroneously diagnosed as a STI (warts/molluscum contagiosum) which may result in unnecessary psychological distress.

Hip arthroscopy has emerged as the primary surgical intervention for Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS), a common cause of hip pain in young adults, particularly athletes. This narrative review examines the long-term outcomes, complications, and debates surrounding arthroscopic management of FAIS. Key findings include sustained improvements in patient-reported outcomes, return to sport, and functional recovery, particularly in younger patients and those with cam-type FAIS.

A 45-year-old male prisoner was referred to the orthopedic outpatients clinic after he sustained a blunt palmar injury when he tried to break-up a bag of ice with the volar aspect of his hand. A few months later a pulsatile expansile mass developed at the site of blunt trauma affecting flexion and extension of the fingers and inability to hold objects. A computed tomography angiogram confirmed the mass to be a true aneurysm of the superficial palmar arch 3 cm in size.

Objective This study aims to investigate breast cancer lymph node involvement in a West Indian population while correlating it with various histological parameters and evaluating the role of the sentinel lymph node biopsy. Method This is a retrospective study where histology reports for all breast cancer-related biopsies from 2018 to 2021, totaling 813 samples, were obtained. Histological parameters from these reports were extracted into a spreadsheet and analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS, version 28.

Background: In traditional descriptions, the upper surface of the liver is smooth and convex, but deep depressions are variants that are present in 5%-40% of patients. We sought to determine the relationship between surface depressions and the diaphragm.
Aim: To use exploratory laparoscopy to determine the relationship between surface depressions and the diaphragm.

This study compares the humoral immune response of a cohort of renal transplant recipients (RTRs), in Trinidad & Tobago following two-dose primary immunization with non-mRNA vaccines amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. RTRs along with healthy, age-and gender-matched controls received either the adenoviral vector vaccine, AstraZeneca-Vaxzevria (AZ) or the inactivated vaccine, Beijing CNBG-BBIBP- CorV/Sinopharm (SP). Samples were taken after completion of a two-dose primary immunization during the period November 2021 to December 2021, at a mean interval of 138 days following immunization.

Background: Peri-incisional numbness occurs frequently after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), yet its impact on clinical outcomes remains controversial. With some studies reporting 100% incidence and patients often perceiving it as a minor inconvenience, its categorisation as a complication is controversial. This study investigates the prevalence and temporal changes of numbness post-TKA to refine the informed consent process and improve patient satisfaction.

Traumatic penetrating cardiac injury is a rare pathology with a high mortality rate, more commonly occurring in a military setting or during violent assaults in a civilian environment. Given the anatomy, these injuries are often managed by cardiothoracic surgeons. However, in an institute that lacks these specialists, the responsibility for managing this condition falls on the shoulders of the general surgeon on call.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an idiopathic chronic autoimmune disease that can affect any organ in the body, including the neurological system. Multiple factors, such as environmental (infections), genetic (many HLA alleles including DR2 and DR3, and genes including C4), and immunological influences on self-antigens, such as nuclear antigens, lead to the formation of multiple autoantibodies that cause deleterious damage to bodily tissues and organs. The production of autoantibodies, such as anti-dsDNA, anti-SS(A), anti-SS(B), anti-Smith, and anti-neuronal DNA are characteristic features of this disease.

In recent years, the Rutherford Morison incision has become synonymous with renal transplant surgery. However, this incision was originally intended for access to the sigmoid colon and pelvis, particularly in the case of a midline previously scarred from operation. We present a case of a middle-aged female with a caecal tumour, requiring resection.

Background: Little was known about the population coverage and causes of sight impairment (SI) registration within the Caribbean, or the extent to which register studies offer insights into population eye health.
Methods: We compared causes of SI registration in the Trinidad and Tobago Blind Welfare Association (TTBWA) register with findings from the 2014 National Eye Survey of Trinidad and Tobago (NESTT), and estimated registration coverage. Cross-sectional validation studies of registered clients included interviews, visual function and cause ascertainment in July 2013, and interviews and visual function in July 2016.

Aim: To compare the initial results between conventional and FreeHand robot-assisted laparoscopic colectomy in Trinidad and Tobago.
Methods: This was a prospective study of outcomes from all laparoscopic colectomies performed for colorectal carcinoma from November 29, 2021 to May 30, 2022.

Hiccups are a benign, self-limiting condition caused by intermittent spasmodic contractions of the diaphragm. However, its persistence may be indicative of a more ominous underlying condition, and its manifestation is seen in myocardial ischemia/infarction and tuberculosis (TB). We present two unique cases where persistent hiccups lead to the diagnosis of miliary tuberculosis in one patient and myocardial infarction in the other.

Cystic artery pseudoaneurysm (CAP) is a rare entity, with just a few cases reported in the literature. The most common presentation of CAP is described by Quincke's triad of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, jaundice and right upper quadrant abdominal pain. We report the case of an 83-year-old male who presented to the adult emergency with a history of an acute cholecystitis 5 weeks prior for which responded to conservative management.

Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) is a rare condition characterised by mature glial nodules that implant in the peritoneum, lymph nodes, or omentum. GP is typically associated with mature or immature ovarian teratomas and usually affects adolescent females. Although neuroglia may be a standard feature of mature ovarian teratomas, widespread peritoneal glial nodules, ascites, and pleural effusion are rare, particularly in the paediatric population.

Introduction: A malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a rare soft-tissue sarcoma with a high recurrence rate and poor prognosis. Early diagnosis and complete surgical excision are the fundamental principles of treatment. A benign presentation and low clinical suspicion often delay definitive diagnosis, and en bloc excision may not be feasible depending on the size and location of the tumor.
