The phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are one class of the most abundant and frequently studied pseudo-persistent organic pollutants. Noninvasive urine is an effective substrate for evaluating PAE exposure, but repeated sampling is needed to overcome this bias. This adds much work to on-site collection and the cost of detection increases exponentially.

Background: Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a class of environmental chemicals with endocrine-disrupting properties. Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that prenatal OPEs exposure is associated with neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. However, studies assessing the effects of prenatal OPEs exposure on the dynamic changes in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in preschoolers are scarce.

Diminished testosterone levels have been documented as a key factor in numerous male health disorders. Both human and animal studies have consistently demonstrated that cadmium (Cd), a pervasive environmental heavy metal, results in decreased testosterone levels. However, the exact mechanism through which Cd interferes with testosterone synthesis remains incompletely elucidated.

This study aimed to explore the different characteristics between early-onset severe preeclampsia (ESPE) and late-onset severe preeclampsia (LSPE) to improve pregnancy outcomes. We performed a retrospective cohort study between January 2016 and December 2021. Eligible hospitalized pregnant women with severe preeclampsia were assigned into the early-onset or late-onset group, depending on the gestational age at the time of severe preeclampsia onset (< or ≥ 34 gestational weeks, respectively).

Background: Evidence suggests a robust relationship between experiencing bullying victimization (BV) and engaging in murderous behaviors among adolescents. However, the potential mediating effect of impulsivity on the relationship between BV and murderous behaviors in early adolescents remains underexplored.
Methods: A total of 5724 adolescents, with a mean age of 13.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals were associated with decreased lung function, but co-exposure effects and underlying mechanism remained unknown.
Methods: Among 1,123 adults from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011-2012, 10 urinary PAHs, 11 urinary metals, and peripheral white blood cell (WBC) count were determined, and 5 lung function indices were measured. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, Bayesian kernel machine regression, and quantile-based g-computation were used to estimate co-exposure effects on lung function.

Animal studies showed a detrimental effect of dietary branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) on metabolic health, while epidemiological evidence on dietary BCAAs and obesity is limited and inconclusive. We hypothesized that high dietary and circulating BCAAs are unfavorably associated with obesity in community-dwelling adults. We evaluated the 1-year longitudinal associations of dietary BCAA intake and circulating BCAAs with body fat measures.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection poses a substantial threat to human health, impacting not only infected individuals but also potentially exerting adverse effects on the health of their offspring. The underlying mechanisms driving this phenomenon remain elusive. This study aims to shed light on this issue by examining alterations in paternally imprinted genes within sperm.

Male infertility is a major concern affecting reproductive health. Biallelic deleterious variants of most DNAH gene family members have been linked to male infertility, with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) being an efficacious way to achieve offspring. However, the association between and male infertility is still limited.

Background: Previous studies have indicated a correlation between maternal imbalances in essential trace elements during pregnancy and the occurrence of spontaneous abortion (SA). Nonetheless, the impact of these elements from both partners and during the preconception period remains unexplored.
Objective: This study sought to evaluate the relationship between preconception essential trace elements and spontaneous abortion (SA) based on husband-wife dyads.

Inner dynein arms (IDAs) are formed from a protein complex that is essential for appropriate flagellar bending and beating. IDA defects have previously been linked to the incidence of asthenozoospermia (AZS) and male infertility. The testes-enriched ZMYND12 protein is homologous with an IDA component identified in Chlamydomonas.

There is a close relationship between preconception health and maternal and child health outcomes, and the consequences may be passed down from generation to generation. In 2018, Lancet published three consecutive articles emphasizing the importance of the preconception period. Phthalic acid ester (PAE) exposure during this period may affect gametogenesis and epigenetic information in gametophytes, thereby affecting embryonic development and offspring health.

Background: Many studies have investigated the intake of dietary isoflavones in relation to obesity risk, whereas the association using objective biomarkers of isoflavones, particularly equol (a gut-derived metabolite of daidzein with greater bioavailability than other isoflavones) has been less studied. In addition, the associations between equol and gut microbiota profile at the population level remain to be fully characterized.
Objectives: We aimed to identify equol-predicting microbial species and to investigate the associations of equol-predicting microbial species and urinary excretion of isoflavones including glycitein, genistein, daidzein, and equol with diverse obesity markers in free living-individuals.

Background: Previous studies have shown that serotonin and its receptors are widely distributed in mammalian reproductive tisssues and play an important role in embryonic development. However, the specific effects of the serotonergic system on embryonic arrest (EA) and the underlying mechanism require further investigation.
Methods: Chorionic villi were collected from patients with EA and healthy pregnant women.

Background: Endometrial cancer (EC) is the sixth most frequent cancer in women worldwide and has higher fatality rates. The pathophysiology of EC is complex, and there are currently no reliable methods for diagnosing and treating the condition. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), according to mounting evidence, is vital to the pathophysiology of EC.

The close association between organelle interactions, such as mitochondrial-lysosomal interactions, and various diseases, including tumors, remains a challenge for drug discovering and identification. Conventional evaluation methods are often complex and multistep labeling procedures often generate false positives, such as cell damage. To overcome these limitations, we employed a single dual-color reporting molecule called Coupa, which labels mitochondria and lysosomes as blue and red, respectively.

Objective: Infertility affects approximately one-sixth of the people of childbearing age worldwide, causing not only economic burdens of treatment for families with fertility problems but also psychological stress for patients and presenting challenges to societal and economic development. Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) refers to the loss of ovarian function in women before the age of 40 due to the depletion of follicles or decreased quality of remaining follicles, constituting a significant cause of female infertility. In recent years, with the help of the rapid development in genetic sequencing technology, it has been demonstrated that genetic factors play a crucial role in the onset of POI.

The most common epigenetic modification of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) is N6-methyladenosine (m6A), which is mainly located near the 3' untranslated region of mRNAs, near the stop codons, and within internal exons. The biological effect of m6A is dynamically modulated by methyltransferases (writers), demethylases (erasers), and m6A-binding proteins (readers). By controlling post-transcriptional gene expression, m6A has a significant impact on numerous biological functions, including RNA transcription, translation, splicing, transport, and degradation.
