Mycetoma of the sole.

New method of inguinal hernia repair: a new solution.

Background: A new technique to strengthen the posterior wall of the inguinal canal in all types of inguinal hernias is described. This method of repair is done without mesh and has been developed because mesh is not easily available in rural or remote parts of many countries.

Methods: After excision of the sac, a strip of the external oblique aponeurosis (EOA) is partially separated from its medial leaf, keeping its continuity intact at either end.

This case involves an orphan female neonate-abandoned in a dustbin in Poona, India-who was infected by the larval forms of the blowfly. The blowfly causing this infestation belonged to the family Calliphoridae and genus Calliphora. The fly of this genus is of importance in Indian veterinary science and is found abundantly around decaying matter in Poona.

MANAGEMENT OF LUNG ABSCESS WITH PERCUTANEOUS CATHETER DRAINAGE.

Percutaneous catheter drainage was used to treat 12 among 34 cases of lung abscesses, who were refractory to medical therapy, severely ill and high risk cases for surgery. A complete clinical and radiological recovery was achieved in all the cases who underwent catheter drainage, thereby obviating the need for surgery. None of the cases had catheter or procedures related complications.

A comparative study of the effect of wax therapy and foot soaks on dry plantar skin was conducted in patients with leprosy. Thirty patients with varying grades of fissures and callosities were given wax therapy for feet, and 20 similar patients were given foot soaks. Patients given wax therapy felt subjectively much better than those who had soaking.

Using Schumacher's classification, we determined the prevalence rate of clinically definite multiple sclerosis (MS) in the distinct but tiny Zoroastrian (largely Parsi) community in the adjacent cities of Bombay (latitude, 18.55 degrees) and Poona (Pune). On prevalence day, 16 clinically definite cases of MS were counted, 14 in Bombay and 2 in Poona, from a total Zoroastrian population of 50,053 and 3,399, respectively.

An epidemic that occurred at the Hospital Infantil de México is reported. Salmonella poona (roup G) was isolated in 154 patients: 122 in stool cultures, 23 in blood cultures and 9 in meningitis; out of the latter, 6 were newborns under 2 months of age. The strain showed resistance to several antibiotics: ampicillin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, tetracycline, carbenicillin, cephalosporine, streptomycin and sulfonamides.
