This study evaluated the effects of different moist orange pulp (MOP) inclusions in corn grain rehydration for silage production as a strategy to store and use MOP and whether these inclusions result in adequate fermentation and aerobic stability (AE) and acceptable losses. Ground corn grain and MOP were weighed separately and mixed to obtain MOP inclusions of 21%, 34%, or 42%. The control treatment was obtained with corn rehydrated with distilled water and MOP inclusion of 0%, with five laboratory silos (15-L buckets) per treatment.

We describe for the first time the displacement mechanism of migratory testis in Nyctinomops laticaudatus, which is little known in bats, in addition to histological analysis of its gonads. Data on testis anatomy and activity were obtained from 20 males. Males had migratory testes as they are displaced in the inguinal canals between intra and external abdominal positions.

This ecological study examines the association between dengue incidence and satellite-based vegetation greenness in 3826 census tracts nested in 474 neighborhoods in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, during the 2010 dengue epidemic.

The effects of corticotomy and piezocision in orthodontic canine retraction: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Background: The aims of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of alveolar corticotomy (AC) and piezocision (PZ) in accelerating maxillary canine retraction, and their effects on multiple bone remodeling expression in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). In this work, we developed a mechanochemical method for obtaining h-BN nanosheets assisted by NaOH aqueous solution as process aid and aimed the ideal balance between yield, quality and process sustainability.

Prioritization and environmental risk assessment of pharmaceuticals mixtures from Brazilian surface waters.

The present study provides an environmental risk assessment of the pharmaceutical mixtures detected in Brazilian surface waters, based on Toxic Units and Risk Quotients. Furthermore, the applicability of a previously proposed prioritization methodology was evaluated. The pharmaceuticals were classified according to their properties (occurrence, persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity) and the contribution of the prioritized compounds to the mixture risk was determined.

Heavy metals affecting Neotropical freshwater fish: A review of the last 10 years of research.

The expansion of urban centers, the increase in the use of chemicals in agriculture, and the significant expansion of industry has dumped increasing amounts of heavy metals into aquatic ecosystems, directly and indirectly affecting the entire food web in freshwater environments. In freshwater fish, many studies conducted worldwide have shown that these pollutants can cause alterations from the molecular level to behavioral, in all stages of life, including in future generations. Despite the great diversity of freshwater fish in the Neotropical region, few studies addressing the influence of metals on native species have been carried out.
