Depressive disorder is one of the main health problems worldwide. Many risk factors have been associated with this pathology. However, while the association between risks factors and adult depression is well established, the mechanisms behind its impact remains poorly understood.

Background: Substantial evidence has highlighted the importance of considering the mental health of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and several organisations have issued guidelines with recommendations. However, the definition of well-being and the evidence base behind such guidelines remain unclear.
Aims: The aims of the study are to assess the applicability of well-being guidelines in practice, identify unaddressed healthcare workers' needs and provide recommendations for supporting front-line staff during the current and future pandemics.

In this article, I analyze the experience and consequences of grief among the Ayoreo from the Paraguayan Chaco through the study of mourning songs. As a methodological proposal, I suggest that the study of verbal art in conjunction with an ethnography of everyday domestic life can provide clues to understanding the experience of grief and its relation to expected behavior. This study shows that grief among the Ayoreo can be socially disruptive if not dealt with properly, as songs depict grieving Ayoreo as opposite to healthy people in terms of sociability and expected role fulfillment.

Several cyanobacterial species are dominant primary producers in hot spring microbial mats. To date, hot spring cyanobacterial taxonomy, as well as the evolution of their genomic adaptations to high temperatures, are poorly understood, with genomic information currently available for only a few dominant genera, including and . To address this knowledge gap, the present study expands the genomic landscape of hot spring cyanobacteria and traces the phylum-wide genomic consequences of evolution in high temperature environments.

KEYNOTE-240 (NCT02702401) assessed the efficacy and safety of pembrolizumab plus best supportive care (BSC) versus placebo plus BSC in patients with HCC who previously received sorafenib. This study presents the results of a prespecified exploratory analysis of patient-reported outcomes.

The transition from unicellular to multicellular organisms is one of the most significant events in the history of life. Key to this process is the emergence of Darwinian individuality at the higher level: Groups must become single entities capable of reproduction for selection to shape their evolution. Evolutionary transitions in individuality are characterized by cooperation between the lower level entities and by division of labor.

Genetic and environmental factors are thought to influence the activity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but relatively little is known about the effects of ambient air pollution. Using pollution data from air monitoring stations in the urban centers in Santiago Chile, along with daily patient hospitalization data from 2001 to 2012, an association between ambient air pollution and daily hospital admissions for SLE was tested using generalized linear models. Averaged over all regions pollutant mean 24 h concentrations were: 0.

Costs of diagnostic testing including sample collection, sampling frequency and sample size are an important consideration in the evaluation of the economic feasibility of alternative surveillance strategies for detection of infectious diseases in aquatic animals. In Chile, Piscirickettsia salmonis is the primary reason for antibiotic treatments in farmed Atlantic salmon. In 2012, a surveillance and control programme for piscirickettsiosis was established with an overall goal of reducing antibiotic use.

Objective: Recently, there has been a burgeoning interest in the utilization of customized bariatric stents (CBS) for management of sleeve gastrectomy leak (SGL). We aimed to conduct a proportion meta-analysis to evaluate the cumulative efficacy and safety of these new stents and to compare them with the conventional esophageal stents (CES).
Methods: A systematic literature search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases was conducted through May 1, 2020.

Autophagy is upregulated in adipose tissue (AT) from people with obesity. We showed that activation of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) elevates proinflammatory cytokines through autophagy in preadipocytes. Our aim is to understand the role of CaSR on autophagy in AT from humans with obesity.

With the advent of biologic and small molecule therapies, there has been a substantial change in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. These advances have had a great impact in preventing disease progression, intestinal damage and, therefore, have contributed to a better quality of life. Discordance between symptom control and mucosal healing has been demonstrated.

Intracholecystic neoplasms (ICNs) (pyloric gland adenomas and intracholecystic papillary neoplasms, collectively also called intracholecystic papillary/tubular neoplasms) form multifocal, extensive proliferations on the gallbladder mucosa and have a high propensity for invasion (>50%). In this study, 19 examples of a poorly characterized phenomenon, mural papillary mucinous lesions that arise in adenomyomatous nodules and form localized ICNs, were analyzed. Two of these were identified in 1750 consecutive cholecystectomies reviewed specifically for this purpose, placing its incidence at 0.

Introduction: Portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis is a rare but potentially serious complication after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. There are no consistent studies that prove the safety and effectiveness of oral anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The objective was to evaluate the effect of rivaroxaban on the frequency of portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis and its safety profile after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Although developmental science has always been evolving, these times of fast-paced and profound social and scientific changes easily lead to disorienting fragmentation rather than coherent scientific advances. What directions should developmental science pursue to meaningfully address real-world problems that impact human development throughout the lifespan? What conceptual or policy shifts are needed to steer the field in these directions? The present manifesto is proposed by a group of scholars from various disciplines and perspectives within developmental science to spark conversations and action plans in response to these questions. After highlighting four critical content domains that merit concentrated and often urgent research efforts, two issues regarding "how" we do developmental science and "what for" are outlined.

Background: Since April 2020, there have been numerous reports of children presenting with systemic inflammation, often in critical condition, and with evidence of recent infection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This condition, since defined as the multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), is assumed to be a delayed immune response to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and there are frequently cardiac manifestations of ventricular dysfunction and/or coronary artery dilation.
Methods: We surveyed the inpatient MIS-C management approaches of the members of the International Kawasaki Disease Registry across 38 institutions and 11 countries.

Background: Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer worldwide. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a technique that allows en bloc resection of early lesions of the digestive tract. It has curative potential in selected patients and benefits over gastrectomy for the treatment of early gastric cancer (EGC).

Cooperation and competition are two ways of social interaction keys to life in society. Recent EEG-based hyperscanning studies reveal that cooperative and competitive interactions induce an increase in interbrain coupling. However, whether this interbrain coupling effect is just a reflection of inter-subject motor coordination or can also signal the type of social interaction is unknown.

Background/hypothesis: Adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder results in pain and restricted movement of the glenohumeral joint. Hypothesis: There would be a difference in active range of movement in the affected shoulder of patients with adhesive capsulitis after receiving a series of injections of collagenase (CCH) compared to placebo.
Methods: This study reports the results from a single site that was part of a 321-participant, multicenter, double-blind, prospective parallel-group, randomized controlled clinical trial.

Objective: To determine the occurrence and severity of pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence (PSUI) in women with gestational hyperglycaemia, and its impact on quality of life (QoL) over the first year post partum.
Study Design: Three hundred and eighty-eight pregnant women with PSUI were distributed into two groups (normoglycaemic and hyperglycaemic) and analysed at five timepoints during pregnancy and the first year post partum. Gestational hyperglycaemia was defined according to the criteria of the American Diabetes Association and the glucose profile test.
