Objectives: To identify new potential host biomarkers in blood to discriminate between active TB patients, uninfected (NoTBI) and latently infected contacts (LTBI).

Methods: A blood cell count was performed to study parent leukocyte populations. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated and a multi-parameter flow cytometry assay was conducted to study the distribution of basal and Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb)-stimulated lymphocytes.

Background: Relatively few studies have analyzed the mortality of follicular lymphoma (FL) patients in comparison with a sex- and age-matched general population. This study analyzed the overall survival (OS) of patients with FL and compared their survival with the expected survival of a general population.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with FL were prospectively enrolled from 1980 to 2013.

Aims: Neuroendocrine gastroenteropancreatic tumors are infrequently found neoplasms. Our objective was to analyze the survival rates for all sites that they occur in by studying different variables.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was carried out using records for a 7-year period from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2014 on neuroendocrine gastroenteropancreatic tumors patients diagnosed at the Pontevedra-Salnés Hospital Complex.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the role and benefits of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) in the management of postoperative intra-abdominal fluid collections after attempted curative surgery for abdominal cancer.

Methods: The authors retrospectively analysed the Endobase from 1 July 2007 to 30 January 2011 for patients with a postoperative intra-abdominal fluid collection who had undergone EUS-guided drainage and the placement of a stent. The data analysed included the demographics, type of surgery and clinical indications of each patient as well as their clinical and radiological findings.

Background: T-cell interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) have been shown to be effective tools for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, offering an enhanced specificity compared to the tuberculin skin test (TST). Most tuberculosis (TB) contact studies have shown a better correlation of IGRA with the intensity of M. tuberculosis exposure than that obtained using the TST.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is a type of neoplasm with a high mortality rate. There are a number of different procedures that may be followed in the study of the pancreas; one such procedure is endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS).

Objective: This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the impact on patient survival of a biliopancreatic EUS performed 2 months prior to the first treatment session of the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

A minor proportion of patients with achalasia eventually have a neoplasm and, as a consequence, pseudoachalasia is diagnosed. A neoplasm may either involve gastrointestinal junction or present a paraneoplastic effect. Over the global diagnoses of achalasia issued in 5 years of experience in our motility unit, we have found 13% (3/23 cases) of pseudoachalasia (2-4% in previous series, probably due to the fact that the population assisted was mainly composed of elderly patients).

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy is a widely used technique for long-term enteral nutrition. Buried bumper syndrome is one of the long-term complications of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, and occurs when the internal retention bolster ulcerates the gastric mucosa, migrates into the deeper gastric wall and becomes covered by gastric mucosa. Clinically, this migration is revealed by a gradual increase of resistance at feeding administration and during catheter cleaning.
