Purpose: The tensor fasciae latae (TFL) muscle is supplied by the lateral femoral circumflex artery (LCFA), arising from the deep femoral artery. However, it has been noted that there is also a consistent vascular anastomotic network. The aim of this study was to describe the accessory vascularization of the TFL muscle through a descriptive anatomical study, in order to hypothesize the feasibility of harvesting a TFL flap in the event of an injury to the main pedicle.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of immediate and delayed increases in mean gradient elevation after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), using data from the FRANCE 2 registry involving 4201 patients with severe aortic stenosis.
  • Three patient groups were analyzed based on their post-procedural mean transvalvular gradient (PPMG) and delayed mean gradient increase (DMGI): control (normal gradients), Group 1 (normal with delayed increase), and Group 2 (elevated gradients).
  • Findings revealed that patients with PPMG ≥ 20 mmHg experienced significantly higher 4-year mortality compared to controls, while those with PPMG < 20 mmHg developed DMGI showed similar outcomes

Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is a set of coordinated strategies to improve the use of antimicrobials, to enhance patient outcomes, reduce antimicrobial resistance, and decrease unnecessary costs. The pioneer years of AMS were restricted to high-income countries (HIC), where overconsumption of antibiotics was associated with emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. AMS in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) is also necessary.

J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

June 2022

Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care, Pontchaillou, University Hospital of Rennes, Rennes, France; Univ Rennes, CHU de Rennes, Inra, Rennes, France; Univ Rennes, CHU Rennes, (Centre d'Investigation Clinique de Rennes), Rennes, France. Electronic address:

Purpose: Hospital-acquired infections have been associated with significant morbidity and mortality in critically ill surgical patients. However, little is known about mortality due to hospital-acquired infections in cardiac surgery.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from the cardiac surgery unit of a university hospital.

Objectives: The transcarotid (TC) approach for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is potentially an optimal alternative to the transfemoral (TF) approach. Our goal was to compare the safety and efficacy of TC- and TF-TAVI.

Methods: Patients who underwent TF-TAVI or TC-TAVI in the prospectively collected FRANCE TAVI registry between January 2013 and December 2015 were compared.

Objectives: This study sought to compare outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in a catheterization laboratory (cath lab) to those undergoing TAVR in a hybrid operating room (OR).

Background: TAVR can be performed in a cath lab or in a hybrid OR. Comparisons between these locations are scarce.

Impact of Direct Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Without Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty on Procedural and Clinical Outcomes: Insights From the FRANCE TAVI Registry.

JACC Cardiovasc Interv

October 2018

Département de Cardiologie, CHU Timone, Marseille, France; Faculté de Médecine, Aix-Marseille Université, Marseille, France; Aix Marseille University, Inserm, Inra, C2VN, Marseille, France. Electronic address:

Objectives: This study sought to describe the current practices and compare outcomes according to the use of balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) or not during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Background: Since its development, aortic valve pre-dilatation has been an essential step of TAVR procedures. However, the feasibility of TAVR without systematic BAV has been described.

Temporal Trends in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in France: FRANCE 2 to FRANCE TAVI.

J Am Coll Cardiol

July 2017

Cardiology and Vascular Diseases Service, Pontchaillou University Hospital Center, Center for Clinical Investigation 804, University of Rennes 1, Signal and Image Treatment Laboratory (LTSI), National Institute of Health and Medical Research U1099, Rennes, France. Electronic address:

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is standard therapy for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are at high surgical risk. However, national data regarding procedural characteristics and clinical outcomes over time are limited.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess nationwide performance trends and clinical outcomes of TAVR during a 6-year period.

Objective: To assess whether a high-salt diet, as measured by urinary sodium concentration, is associated with faster conversion from clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) to multiple sclerosis (MS) and MS activity and disability.

Methods: BENEFIT was a randomized clinical trial comparing early versus delayed interferon beta-1b treatment in 465 patients with a CIS. Each patient provided a median of 14 (interquartile range = 13-16) spot urine samples throughout the 5-year follow-up.
