This paper studies the feasibility of a deep neural network (DNN) approach for bone fracture diagnosis based on the non-invasive propagation of radio frequency waves. In contrast to previous "semi-automated" techniques, where X-ray images were used as the network input, in this work, we use S-parameters profiles for DNN training to avoid labeling and data collection problems. Our designed network can simultaneously classify different complex fracture types (normal, transverse, oblique, and comminuted) and estimate the length of the cracks.

The fusion peptide (FP) and the Trp-rich membrane proximal external region (MPER) display membrane activity during HIV-1 fusion. These domains are highly conserved in the envelope glycoprotein (Env) and, consequently, antibodies targeting these regions block entry of divergent HIV strains and isolates into target cells. With the aim of recovering concurrent responses against the membrane-active Env domains, we have produced hybrid peptides that connect FP and MPER sequences via flexible aminohexanoic acid tethers, and tested their potential as immunogens.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe psychiatric disorder characterized by a harmful persistence of self-imposed starvation resulting in significant weight loss. Research suggests that alterations in the nucleus accumbens (NAcc) and circulating endocannabinoids (eCBs), such as anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), may contribute to increased severity and maladaptive behaviors in AN, warranting an examination of the interplay between central reward circuitry and eCBs. For this purpose, we assessed NAcc functional connectivity and circulating AEA and 2-AG concentrations in 18 individuals with AN and 18 healthy controls (HC) to test associations between circulating eCBs, NAcc functional connectivity, and AN severity, as defined by body mass index (BMI).

Depression and anxiety are common mental disorders that often occur together. Stress is an important risk factor for both disorders, affecting pathophysiological processes through epigenetic changes that mediate gene-environment interactions. In this study, we explored two proposed models about the dynamic nature of DNA methylation in anxiety and depression: a stable change, in which DNA methylation accumulates over time as a function of the duration of clinical symptoms of anxiety and depression, or a flexible change, in which DNA methylation correlates with the acute severity of clinical symptoms.

The formation of biofilms is a common virulence factor that makes bacterial infections difficult to treat and a major human health problem. Biofilms are bacterial communities embedded in a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS).
