Objective: The fisheries sector is essential to the economies of developing countries, but it is a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Although emissions can be substantially reduced through energy efficiency measures, compliance with the Paris Agreement of 2015 requires further action through national frameworks for the decarbonization of fishing vessels. The objective of this paper is to explain the impact in greenhouse gas emissions from fishing vessels, discuss the possible regulatory indexes that could be made applicable to fishing vessels and how these ships can transition to alternative and low carbon fuels, identifying the main challenges in view of accident analysis and inspections.

Silicon oxycarbide (SiOC), Ca- and Mg-modified silicon oxycarbide (SiCaOC and SiMgOC) were synthesized via sol-gel processing with subsequent pyrolysis in an inert gas atmosphere. The physicochemical structures of the materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, and Si MAS NMR. Biocompatibility and in vitro bioactivity were detected by MTT, cell adhesion assay, and simulated body fluid (SBF) immersion test.

Efficient energy management and maintaining an optimal indoor climate in buildings are critical tasks in today's world. This paper presents an innovative approach to surrogate modeling for predicting indoor air temperature (IAT) in buildings, leveraging advanced machine learning techniques. At the core of this study is the application of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks for time-series modeling, which significantly enhances the capture of temporal dependencies in temperature predictions.

Background: Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) after major abdominal surgery leads to poor outcomes. The Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI) may aid in managing intraoperative hemodynamic instability. This study assessed if HPI-guided therapy reduces moderate-to-severe AKI incidence in moderate-to-high-risk elective abdominal surgery patients.

Most commercially available red wines undergo alcoholic fermentation by yeasts, followed by a second fermentation with the lactic acid bacteria once the initial process is complete. However, this traditional approach can encounter complications in specific scenarios. These situations pose risks such as stalled alcoholic fermentation or the growth of undesirable bacteria while the process remains incomplete, leaving residual sugars in the wine.

In this work, the oxidation behavior of an aluminide coating at 900, 1000, and 1100 °C was investigated. The aluminide coating was prepared on a cobalt-based superalloy using a vapor phase aluminizing process, which is composed of a β-(Co,Ni)Al phase outer layer and a Cr-rich phase diffusion layer. The experimental results showed that the oxidation of the coating at 900-1100 °C all obey the parabolic law.

Composites manufactured with textiles weaved with commingled yarns using PLA (polylactic acid) and PCL (polycaprolactone) fibres are promising candidates for connective tissue engineering. In this work, textiles were fabricated using PLA/PCL commingled yarns in a ratio of 3 to 1, which were subsequently consolidated by compression moulding to produce solid composite plates. Specimens were extracted from the composite plates and submitted to degradation testing by immersion in PBS fluid (phosphate-buffered saline) at different periods.

Cartilage defect repair with optimal efficiency remains a significant challenge due to the limited self-repair capability of native tissues. The development of bioactive scaffolds with biomimicking mechanical properties and degradation rates matched with cartilage regeneration while simultaneously driving chondrogenesis, plays a crucial role in enhancing cartilage defect repair. To this end, a novel composite scaffold with hierarchical porosity was manufactured by incorporating a pro-chondrogenic collagen type I/II-hyaluronic acid (CI/II-HyA) matrix to a 3D-printed poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) framework.

Background: Cross-reactivity between nonspecific lipid transfer proteins could cause anaphylaxis, further influencing food avoidance and nutrient deficiencies. The one affecting olive pollen (Ole e 7) and peach (Pru p 3) may underlie a variety of pollen-food syndromes, though a deep molecular analysis is necessary.
Methods: Three Ole e 7-monosensitised patients (MON_OLE), three Pru p 3-monosensitised patients (MON_PRU) and three bisensitised patients (BI) were selected.

The influence of elastic strains on the adsorption processes of seven adsorbates (H, C, N, O, CO, NO, and H) onto the surface of Pt(111) and PtO (110) has been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) simulations. The total adsorption energy was decomposed into mechanical and electronic contributions. Our results indicate that elastic strain in metals affects the adsorption energy by modifying the electronic structure of the surface rather than changing the physical space where the atoms reside after adsorption.

Consideration of workload intensity and peak demands across different periods of basketball games contributes to understanding the external physical requirements of elite basketball players. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the average intensity and peak demands encountered by players throughout game quarters. PlayerLoad per minute and PlayerLoad at three different time samples (30 s, 1 min, and 3 min) were used as workload metrics.

This review delves into the innovative technology of Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) opening with low-intensity focused ultrasound in combination with microbubbles (LIFU-MB), a promising therapeutic modality aimed at enhancing drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). The BBB's selective permeability, while crucial for neuroprotection, significantly hampers the efficacy of pharmacological treatments for CNS disorders. LIFU-MB emerges as a non-invasive and localized method to transiently increase BBB permeability, facilitating the delivery of therapeutic molecules.

Bioabsorbable Mg wire-reinforced poly-lactic acid (PLA) matrix composites are potential candidate for load-bearing orthopedic implants offering tailorable mechanical and degradation properties by stacking sequence, volume fraction and surface modification of Mg wires. In this study, we investigated the cytocompatibility, cell-material interaction, and bone differentiation behavior of MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells for medical-grade PLA, Mg/PLA, and PEO-Mg/PLA (having PEO surface modification on Mg wires) composites. MTT and live/dead assay showed excellent biocompatibility of both composites while cell-material interaction analysis revealed that cells were able to adhere and proliferate on the surface of composites.

Recombinational repair is an important mechanism that allows DNA replication to overcome damaged templates, so the DNA is duplicated timely and correctly. The RecFOR pathway is one of the common ways to load RecA, while the RuvABC complex operates in the resolution of DNA intermediates. We have generated deletions of recO, recR and ruvB genes in Thermus thermophilus, while a recF null mutant could not be obtained.

The ability to stop unwanted memories from coming to mind is theorised to be essential for maintaining good mental health. People can employ intentional strategies to prevent conscious intrusions of negative memories, and repeated attempts to stop retrieval both reduces the frequency of intrusions and improves subsequent emotions elicited by those memories. However, it is still unknown whether memory control can improve negative emotions immediately, at the time control is attempted.
