How To Report the Minor Component of a High-grade Pattern in Radical Prostatectomy Specimens: Time To Abandon the "Tertiary" Terminology?

The International Society of Urological Pathology and Genitourinary Pathology Society differ in their recommendations for reporting of minor components of high-grade pattern in prostatectomy specimens. This can affect the grade group assigned, particularly when there are only two Gleason patterns in a cancer nodule. We therefore argue that the term "tertiary" should be changed to "minor" component.

Infectious diseases pose a significant burden on the general population, particularly older adults who are more susceptible to severe complications. Immunization plays a crucial role in preventing infections and securing a healthier aging, but actual vaccination rates among older adults and frail individuals (OAFs) remains far from recommended targets. This study aims to collect and share good practices implemented in several Italian local health districts during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic to ease routine immunization for OAFs.

Background: Several socioeconomic conditions may influence subjects' adherence to healthy eating habits. Food consumption may be influenced by external stress during crisis periods; however, the effects of these events on food habits are difficult to predict. Also, a pandemic crisis like the recent COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced dietary habits and food consumption.

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers in urological tumours.

Advancements in cutting-edge molecular profiling techniques, such as next-generation sequencing and bioinformatic analytic tools, have allowed researchers to examine tumour biology in detail and stratify patients based on factors linked with clinical outcome and response to therapy. This manuscript highlights the most relevant prognostic and predictive biomarkers in kidney, bladder, prostate and testicular cancers with recognised impact in clinical practice. In bladder and prostate cancer, new genetic acquisitions concerning the biology of tumours have modified the therapeutic scenario and led to the approval of target directed therapies, increasing the quality of patient care.

The Oncological and Functional Prognostic Value of Unconventional Histology of Prostate Cancer in Localized Disease Treated with Robotic Radical Prostatectomy: An International Multicenter 5-Year Cohort Study.

Background And Objective: The impact of prostate cancer of unconventional histology (UH) on oncological and functional outcomes after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and adjuvant radiotherapy (aRT) receipt is unclear. We compared the impact of cribriform pattern (CP), ductal adenocarcinoma (DAC), and intraductal carcinoma (IDC) in comparison to pure adenocarcinoma (AC) on short- to mid-term oncological and functional results and receipt of aRT after RARP.

Methods: We retrospectively collected data for a large international cohort of men with localized prostate cancer treated with RARP between 2016 and 2020.

Diagnostic imaging of a rare case of incidental adrenal ganglioneuroma.

A 53-year-old man complaining of pain in the right hypochondrium underwent an abdominal ultrasound that showed a left adrenal lesion. Further instrumental investigations (CT and MRI, both with contrast medium) were performed which diagnosed an adrenal ganglioneuroma, confirmed by the histological examination. The patient also underwent an endocrinological examination.

Can Electroacupuncture Be Useful in Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia? A Case Report.

Opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) is characterized by a paradoxical increase in pain sensitivity following opioid exposure. Although animal models indicate that electroacupuncture (EA) is effective against pain sensitization, there are no reports of its clinical application in OIH treatment. This case report involves an adult patient with osteomalacia complicated by multiple vertebral fragility fractures.

Hysterectomy and thyroid cancer risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Incidence rates of thyroid cancer have increased. Recent studies findings suggest that women who underwent a hysterectomy have an elevated relative risk of thyroid cancer. The aim of our meta-analysis is to summarize the evidence about the association between hysterectomy and thyroid cancer risk.

Gender, Socioeconomic, and Health Characteristics Associated to Dermatological Visits in Italy: Secondary Analysis of a National Cross-Sectional Survey.

Background: Very few studies have investigated possible role of sociodemographic factors in terms of differences in access to dermatologic visits, and almost all of them have been conducted in health system realities where insurance companies play an important role in terms of access to healthcare providers. To our knowledge in Italy, there is lack of studies carried out with the aim to investigate possible role of sociodemographic factors regarding differences in outpatient dermatologic use for a variety of dermatologic conditions. Indeed, some investigations have been focused on specific dermatologic conditions without analyzing the big and extremely wide picture of skin diseases.

COVID-19 Vaccination Actual Uptake and Potential Inequalities Due to Socio-Demographic Characteristics: A Population-Based Study in the Umbria Region, Italy.

Socio-demographic factors are responsible for health inequalities also in vaccination. The aim of this study was to evaluate their role at the population level through a population-based study performed on the whole population entitled to receive COVID-19 vaccines in the Umbria Region, Italy, and registered to the Regional Healthcare Service as of 28 February 2021. Socio-demographic characteristics and vaccination status in terms of uptake of at least one dose of any available vaccine, completion of the primary vaccination cycle and uptake of the booster doses as of 28 February 2022 were collected from the Umbria regional database.

Conservative approach for a giant prostatic hyperplasia of 1280 ml: a case report and literature review.

Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) affects at least one-third of men over 60 years. A giant prostatic hyperplasia (GPH) is a prostate enlargement that exceeds 500 g. We present a case of a 72-year-old man with a GPH volume of 1280 ml, referred to our hospital for a worsening of the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), bilateral loin pain and kidney failure.

Primary non leukemic myeloid sarcoma of the ureteral wall: a case report of a rare disease.

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is an extramedullary tumor mass causing proliferation of mature or immature blast cells of one or more myeloid lineages. Involvement of the genitourinary tract is rare. We present a case of MS of the ureteral wall.

Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are serious health challenges. Point prevalence surveys (PPSs) are valuable tools for monitoring HAIs and AMR.

Aim: To describe results of the ECDC PPS 2022 dealing with the prevalence of HAIs, antimicrobial consumption, and associated factors, in acute care hospitals.

Proposal for a Novel Histological Scoring System as a Potential Grading Approach for Muscle-invasive Urothelial Bladder Cancer Correlating with Disease Aggressiveness and Patient Outcomes.

Background: Grading of muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) according to the current World Health Organization (WHO) criteria is controversial due to its limited prognostic value. All MIBC cases except a tiny minority are of high grade.

Objective: To develop a prognostic histological scoring system for MIBC integrating histomorphological phenotype, stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs), tumor budding, and growth and spreading patterns.

Patients And Methods: Patients aged ≥ 18 years with a cytologically and/or histologically confirmed diagnosis of mRCC treated with first-line immuno-combination therapies were retrospectively included from 47 International Institutions from 16 countries.

Morphologic spectrum of the epithelial tumors of the male and female urethra.

The classification of the epithelial tumors of the male and female urethra includes benign and malignant neoplasms. Primary urethral carcinomas and adenocarcinomas of the accessory glands are the most relevant tumors, both from the morphologic and clinical point of view. An accurate diagnosis, grading and staging are essential for determining adequate treatment strategies and outcome.
