The present study aimed to determine the allometric scaling among a selection of morphological traits in European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) to estimate fish body weight. A set of morphological traits (fish body weight, length, height, and width) were directly measured in 146 fish of a recirculating aquaculture system, with body weights ranging from 17.11 to 652.

Unlabelled: Given the pandemic situation, there is an urgent need for an accurate test to monitor antibodies anti-SARS-CoV-2, providing crucial epidemiological and clinical information to monitor the evolution of coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) and to stratify the immunized and asymptomatic population. Therefore, this paper describes a new cellulose-based test strip for rapid and cost-effective quantitative detection of antibodies to SARS-CoV2 virus by colorimetric transduction. For this purpose, Whatman paper was chemically modified with sodium metaperiodate to introduce aldehyde groups on its surface.

Rational selection of predicted peptides to be employed as templates in molecular imprinting was carried out for the heat-denatured non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of dengue virus (DENV). Conservation analysis among 301 sequences of Brazilian isolates of DENV and zika virus (ZIKV) NS1 was carried out by UniProtKB, and peptide selection was based on in silico data of the conservational, structural and immunogenic properties of the sequences. The selected peptide (from dengue 1 NS1) was synthesized and employed as a template in the electropolymerization of polyaminophenol-imprinted films on the surface of carbon screen-printed electrodes.

Low concentrations of biomarkers as well as the complexity of biological samples make the clinical diagnoses of several diseases a challenging task. Sample preparation protocols remain a fundamental piece in the puzzle of analytical processes, and smart sorbents including molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have been successfully used in this case. In this review, we depict the state of art for the rational design of MIPs to be used in solid phase extraction of disease biomarkers from biological samples.
