New therapeutic approaches are needed for the management of the highly chemo- and radioresistant chondrosarcoma (CHS). In this work, we used polyethylene glycol-encapsulated iron oxide nanoparticles for the intracellular delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin (IONP) to augment the cytotoxic effects of carbon ions in comparison to photon radiation therapy. The in vitro biological effects were investigated in SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells focusing on the following parameters: cell survival using clonogenic test, detection of micronuclei (MN) by cytokinesis blocked micronucleus assay and morphology together with spectral fingerprints of nuclei using enhanced dark-field microscopy (EDFM) assembled with a hyperspectral imaging (HI) module.

We present a method that integrates the standard imaging tools for locating and detecting unlabeled nanoparticles (NPs) with computational tools for partitioning cell volumes and NPs counting within specified regions to evaluate their internal traffic. The method uses enhanced dark field CytoViva optical system and combines 3D reconstructions of double fluorescently labeled cells with hyperspectral images. The method allows the partitioning of each cell image into four regions: nucleus, cytoplasm, and two neighboring shells, as well as investigations across thin layers adjacent to the plasma membrane.

Soil contamination by PCBs is still known as a serious problem across the world, and the development of new technologies or the improvement of existing ones (e.g. higher efficiency, shorter processing time, lower input energy) are more and more important.

Bright-field imaging of nanoscale bioparticles is a challenging task for optical microscopy because the light-matter interactions of bioparticles are weak on conventional surfaces due to their low refractive index and small size. Alternatively, advanced imaging techniques, including near-field microscopy and phase microscopy, have enabled visualization and quantification of the bioparticles, but they require assistance of sophisticated/customized systems and post-processing with complex established algorithms. Here, a simple and fast immunoassay device, Gires-Tournois immunoassay platform (GTIP) is presented, which provides unique color dynamics in response to optical environment changes and thus enables the label-free bright-field imaging and facile quantification of bioparticles using conventional optical microscopy.

We demonstrate a proof of concept for magnetically-driven 2D cells organization on superparamagnetic micromagnets fabricated by laser direct writing via two photon polymerization (LDW via TPP) of a photopolymerizable superparamagnetic composite. The composite consisted of a commercially available, biocompatible photopolymer (Ormocore) mixed with 4 mg/mL superparamagnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). The micromagnets were designed in the shape of squares with 70 µm lateral dimension.

Acclimatable colors in response to environmental stimuli, which are naturally endowed with some living things, can provide an opportunity for humans to recognize hazardous substances without taking empirical risks. Despite efforts to create artificial responsive colors, realistic applications in everyday life require an immediate/distinct colorimetric realization with wide chromatic selectivity. A dynamically responsive virus (M-13 phage)-based changeable coloring strategy is presented with a highly lossy resonant promoter (HLRP).

Various TiO2 nanofibers on Ti surface have been fabricated via electrospinning and calcination. Due to different elaboration conditions the electrospun fibers have different surface feature morphologies, characterized by scanning electronic microscopy, surface roughness, and contact angle measurements. The results have indicated that the average sample diameters are between 32 and 44 nm, roughness between 61 and 416 nm, and all samples are hydrophilic.

In this paper, we use the laser biophotometry for in vivo investigations, searching the most sensitive interactions of the near-infrared spectrum with different tissues. The experimental methods are based on the average reflection coefficient (ARC) measurements. For healthy persons, ARC is the average of five values provided by the biophotometer.
