Introduction: Apart from growth promotion, growth hormone (GH) has important metabolic effects. Patients with severe GH deficiency (GHD) should be treated with GH throughout life. Current criteria for growth promoting therapy withdrawal in Poland differ from the latest recommendations.

Pain experienced in the neonatal period has been shown to have serious short- and long-term consequences. It is also known that painkillers have side effects and should not be abused. The basis of proper pain management is assessment of pain, which in newborns is very difficult due to the lack of verbal communication.

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy disorder associated with shallow placentation, forcing placental cells to live in hypoxic conditions. This activates the transcription factor kappa B (NFκB) in maternal and placental cells. Although the role of NFκB in preeclampsia is well documented, its mechanism of activation in trophoblastic cells has been never studied.

Background: Although preeclampsia has long been recognized as a condition affecting late pregnancy, little is known of its pathogenesis or treatment. The placenta releases a number of hormones and molecules that influence the course of pregnancy, one of which is chromogranin A, a soluble protein secreted mainly from the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. Its role in pregnancy and pregnancy-related disorders remains unclear.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most common malignancies around the world. Due to the advanced stage of the disease at the time of diagnosis, most patients require systemic treatment. Immunotherapy with immune checkpoints inhibitors is becoming the main treatment method for many cancers, including NSCLC.

Background: Patients treated in neonatal/pediatric intensive care units (N/PICUs) are frequently exposed to pain. To assess its severity, several behavioral and behavioral-physiological scales are used, but their usefulness is limited. It is therefore justified to search for additional methods to assess the adequacy of analgesia and sedation in these patients.

Although higher nuclear factor κB (NFκB) expression and activity is observed in preeclamptic placentas, its mechanism of activation is unknown. This is the first study to investigate whether the canonical, non-canonical, or atypical NFκB activation pathways may be responsible for the higher activation of NFκB observed in preeclamptic placentas. The study included 268 cases (130 preeclamptic women and 138 controls).

A linkage of dichorionic (DC) twin pregnancies with selective intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) to alterations in placental gene expression is unclear. The aim of the study was to identify placental genes related to hypoxia, adipogenesis and human growth which may contribute to IUGR development. The study group (IUGR/AGA) comprised dichorionic (DC) twin pregnancies, where the weight of the twins differed by > 15%; in addition, one twin was small for gestational age (< 10th percentile-SGA) (IUGR) while the other was appropriate for gestational age (> 10th percentile-AGA).

Background: Preeclamptic pregnancies often present an intensified inflammatory state associated with the nuclear activity of NFB. NEMO is an essential regulator of nuclear factor kappa B (NFB) in cytoplasmic and nuclear cellular compartments. The aim of the present study is to examine the level and localization of the NEMO protein in preeclamptic and nonpreeclamptic placentas.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate feasibility of diffusion-weighted whole-body imaging with background body signal suppression (DWIBS) method in diagnosing Hodgkin lymphoma in pediatric patients and to compare it with 18F-FDG PET/CT as a gold standard.
Materials And Methods: Eleven patients (median age 14) with newly diagnosed Hodgkin lymphoma were examined with 18F-FDG PET/CT and MRI including whole-body DWIBS sequence (b = 0, 800 s/mm), before the oncologic treatment. About 26 locations of lymphatic tissues were evaluated visually and quantitatively using ADC (DWIBS) and SUV (18F-FDG PET/CT), respectively.

Introduction: The problem concerning the impact of pregnancy on diabetic complications is a matter for discussion as there is some evidence suggesting that pregnancy may trigger development or progression of diabetic chronic complications. However, currently available data concerning this issue is still controversial.
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of obstetric history on the development of chronic microangiopatic and macroangiopatic complications in type 1 diabetic women.

Objectives: The golden standard in treatment benign ovarian cysts is laparoscopic cystectomy, but it may also influence women's fertility. The aim of the study was to compare women's fertility after laparoscopic cystectomy of endometrioma versus other benign ovarian tumors.
Materials And Methods: Out of the 123 patients operated because of benign ovarian tumor (OT), 66 underwent laparoscopic cystectomy of endometrioma (endometrioma group) and 57 underwent laparoscopic cystectomy of other benign ovarian tumor like: functional cyst, hemorrhagic cyst, yellow body cyst or mature teratoma (reference group).

Over the past three decades, statins have become the cornerstone of prevention and treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Albeit generally well tolerated, these drugs can elicit a variety of muscle-associated symptoms that represent the most important reason for treatment discontinuation. Statin-associated myopathy has been systematically underestimated by randomized controlled trials as compared with the incidence observed in clinical practice and obtained from patient registries.

Background: The mechanism of preeclampsia and its way of inheritance are still a mystery. Biochemical and immunochemical studies reveal a substantial increase in tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-1 beta, and interleukin-6 concentrations in the blood of women with preeclampsia. The level of these factors is regulated by nuclear facxtor-kappa B, whose activation in a classical pathway requires inhibitory kappa B kinase gamma (known as NEMO or IKBKG).

Toxoplasma gondii has a highly clonal genetic structure classified into three major genetic types, I, II, and III, plus additional recombinant and atypical strains. In humans, type I and atypical strains usually associate with severe toxoplasmosis. Type II strains, predominantly identified in European countries and the United States, correlate with a differential course of toxoplasmosis.

Primary fetal hydrothorax is a relatively rare disorder, occurring in 1 out of 15,000 pregnancies, but connected with high perinatal mortality. In the event of little or no progress of the effusion or stable clinical course, conservative management seems to be the most appropriate course of action. In nearly half of the cases, a placement of only one pleuroamniotic shunt enables a total regression of the primary fetal hydrothorax and, consequently, a favourable outcome.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most frequent malignant neoplasm of the thyroid originating from the thyroid follicular cell (TFC). Although the formation of PTC is believed to result from rearrangements of RET or TRK oncogenes or MET point mutations, these structural aberrations or point mutations do not correlate with the clinicopathological features of PTC and do not seem to be a useful prognostic marker of the disease. Therefore, further experiments should be carried out in order to find new practical clinical markers.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with an increased incidence of insulin resistance (IR), obesity, and type 2 diabetes. Resistin, an adipocytokine, may represent a link between obesity, and these metabolic disorders. There is also evidence that inflammation is a hyperresistinemic state in humans, and cytokine induction of resistin may contribute to insulin resistance in endotoxemia, obesity, and other inflammatory states.
