Introduction: The relationship between diet of mothers, including supplementation of vitamin D and Long Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (LC-PUFA), and the prevalence of congenital heart defects (CHD) in the fetus has not been sufficiently studied. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between the intake of vitamin D and LC-PUFA by mother (from diet and with supplementation, including its time of implementation and applied dose), and the risk of CHD in the fetus.
Methods: This was a case-control study with the participation of a total of 79 women with prenatally diagnosed CHD in the fetus and 121 women without CHD in the fetus.

Background: Haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a life-threatening disease with a historically poor prognosis in children receiving maintenance kidney replacement therapy (KRT). This study aimed to analyse the incidence and outcome of chronic kidney disease stage 5 (CKD5) due to Escherichia coli-HUS (STEC-HUS) and complement-mediated HUS (CM-HUS) in children, compared with controls with non-HUS CKD5 over the last 24 years.
Methods: The study included 1488 children undergoing KRT in Poland between 2000 and 2023.

Background: The available data on the relationship between diet/folic acid and congenital heart disease (CHD) are not consistent. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the intake and supplementation of folic acid and other selected factors in mothers and the risk of congenital heart defects in fetuses.
Methods: A case-control study was conducted.

Introduction: There has been a rising trend in the use of silicone breast implants for breast reconstructions after breast cancer treatment, as well as in the aesthetic breast procedures. A cluster of non-specific symptoms related to the presence of silicone implant has been called breast implant illness (BII). However, there are no strict criteria of BII which would specifically define this term.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of prenatal ultrasound in detecting coarctation of the aorta (CoA).
Methods: An individual participant data meta-analysis was performed to report on the strength of association and diagnostic accuracy of different ultrasound signs in detecting CoA prenatally. MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL were searched for studies published between January 2000 and November 2021.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of seasonal variability of insolation, the implementation of new recommendations for vitamin D supplementation (2018), and the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic lockdown (2020) on 25(OH)D concentrations in children from central Poland. The retrospective analysis of variability of 25(OH)D concentrations during the last 8 years was performed in a group of 1440 children with short stature, aged 3.0-18.

Most obstetrical studies have focused on maternal response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus but much less is known about the effect of COVID-19 on fetal physiology. We aimed to evaluate the effect of the maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection on the fetal homeostasis with the use of detailed ultrasonography and echocardiography and consideration of the effect of vaccination. This was a multi-center study of fetuses who had prenatal detailed ultrasound and echocardiographic examinations performed by fetal cardiology specialists.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-specific disorder affecting 4-10% of all expectant women. It greatly increases the risk of maternal and foetal death. Although the main symptoms generally appear after week 20 of gestation, scientific studies indicate that the mechanism underpinning PE is initiated at the beginning of gestation.

Purpose: Fetal macrosomia may have serious effects on both mother and newborn, so it is important to correctly evaluate the fetal weight before delivery. Fetal routine biometry, height of the fundus of uterus, interventricular septal thickness seems to be very good but still not perfect. In our study the relation between fetal biventricular (AP) diameter and fetal foot length was elaborated in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

This case series describes our experience with a prenatal diagnosis of fetal perineal masses. We propose a clinical-sonographic approach for prenatal workup in cases presenting perineal findings based on imaging the target sign at the posterior perineal triangle, the fetal genitalia, and sacrum. Targeted, structured prenatal anatomical scan in fetuses presenting with perineal masses may aid in the prenatal differential diagnosis and enable appropriate genetic analysis, prenatal counseling, and postnatal treatment.

Objectives: Right atrium and left atrium of the fetal heart play a fundamental role in fetal heart circulatory physiology.
Methods: Excursion of fetal atria walls and tracings of foramen ovale (FO) flap movement were analyzed by M-mode echocardiography by new FO index to determine fetal and neonatal outcome in the first week and month of life in various congenital heart defects. The study group was divided into 3 subgroups: group A: neonates stable after birth (all on I.

Objective: This study aimed to identify new functional echocardiographic features of fetal foramen ovale (FO) to predict the need of urgent balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) in neonates with simple dextro-transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA).
Method: Single-center prospective study of fetuses, who had prenatal echocardiographic examination <30 days before delivery and fetal diagnosis of simple d-TGA. The subjects were divided according to the need of BAS within the first 24 h after neonatal birth and before arterial switch operation.

Introduction: Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetically determined disease that manifests itself in a number of abnormalities resulting, among others, from dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary system. Only integrated, multidisciplinary care gives patients the chance to significantly improve the quality of life and achieve a life expectancy that does not differ from the general population.
Aim: The aim of the study was to summarize the available literature on the management of patients suffering from PWS.
