Background: The evolving field of rhinoplasty increasingly recognizes the importance of clinical expertise over routine preoperative nasal computed tomography (CT) for planning surgical interventions. This study evaluates the clinical utility of preoperative nasal CT in enhancing the precision of open structured rhinoplasty, focusing on both functional and aesthetic outcomes without compromising patient safety through unnecessary radiation exposure. The study aimed to assess the impact of preoperative nasal CT on surgical planning and intraoperative maneuvers.

Emerging research underscores the pivotal role of adipose tissue in regulating systemic aging processes, particularly when viewed through the lens of the endocrine hypotheses of aging. This study delves into the unique adipose characteristics in an important animal model of aging - the long-lived Ames dwarf (df/df) mice. Characterized by a Prop1 gene mutation, these mice exhibit a deficiency in growth hormone (GH), prolactin, and TSH, alongside extremely low circulating IGF-1 levels.

Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a spectrum of clinically heterogenous forms of monogenic diabetes mellitus characterized by autosomal dominant inheritance, onset at a young age, and absence of pancreatic islets autoimmunity. This rare form of hyperglycemia, with clinical features overlapping with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, has 14 subtypes with differences in prevalence and complications occurrence which tailor therapeutic approach. MODY phenotypes differ based on the gene involved, gene penetrance and expressivity.

Background: Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality worldwide and is likely to rise. Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is consequent on inflammation. As a common and cost-effective inflammatory biomarker, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may be beneficial in cardiovascular medicine.

Introduction: Expression of PD-L1 on cancer cells is the only validated predictive factor for immunotherapy in NSCLC (Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer) patients. However, on this basis, it is difficult to predict the occurrence of resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). MicroRNAs are widely studied as biomarkers of cancers.

Background And Objecitves: The currently available kidney volume normative values in children are restricted to small populations from single-centre studies not assessing kidney function and including none or only a small number of adolescents. This study aimed to obtain ultrasound-based kidney volume normative values derived from a large European White/Caucasian paediatric population with normal kidney function.
Methods: After recruitment of 1427 children aged 0-19 years, 1396 individuals with no history of kidney disease and normal estimated glomerular filtration rate were selected for the sonographic evaluation of kidney volume.

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is made up of a low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particle and a specific apolipoprotein(a). The blood concentration of Lp(a) is approximately 90% genetically determined, and the main genetic factor determining Lp(a) levels is the size of the apo(a) isoform, which is determined by the number of KIV2 domain repeats. The size of the apo(a) isoform is inversely proportional to the blood concentration of Lp(a).

Lipid disorders, primarily hypercholesterolemia, are the most common cardiovascular (CV) risk factor in Poland (this applies even 3/4 of people). The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) serum level is the basic lipid parameter that should be measured to determine CV risk and determines the aim and target of lipid-lowering treatment (LLT). Lipid-lowering treatment improves cardiovascular prognosis and prolongs life in both primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention.

Dyslipidaemia is a modifiable risk factor commonly associated with diabetes mellitus and prediabetes, with a major impact on the early development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Various studies have tried to identify the key treatment targets, their optimal values according to patients' CV risk, and the most efficient yet safe therapeutic agents which, alongside lifestyle changes, would improve lipid levels and reduce cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Currently, there are multiple pharmacologic options that can be used in the management of dyslipidaemia, such as statins, ezetimibe, bempedoic acid, PCSK9 inhibitors, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids or fibrates, to name only a few, while many other are under development.

Global interest in applying virtual reality (VR) in research and medicine has grown significantly, with potential benefits for patients suffering from balance disorders, instability, and a high risk of falling. This exploratory study assesses the impact of immersive VR (IVR) delivered through a head-mounted display (HMD) on balance and explores the feasibility of using the HMD VR unit as a standalone posturography tool. Using the Meta Quest 2 HMD and a mid-range Android smartphone equipped with standard sensors, the research employed a VR environment that simulated a ship at sea, with thirty-eight healthy participants with no otoneurologic abnormalities.

Introduction: Pembrolizumab combined with chemotherapy has become the standard of care for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the expression of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) in <50% of tumour cells (TC).
Methods: We evaluated the efficacy of the treatment in real-world practice, paying attention to the predictive factors, with a special focus on low level of PD-L1 expression. This study is a multicenter retrospective analysis of patients with stage IV NSCLC.

Background: Primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services in Europe create complex networks covering pediatric subspecialties, sociology, economics and politics. Two surveys of the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) in 1998 and 2017 revealed substantial disparities of kidney care among European countries. The purpose of the third ESPN survey is to further identify national differences in the conceptualization and organization of European pediatric kidney health care pathways during and outside normal working hours.

Background: Amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) may pose treatment challenges. We present a series of patients in which we achieved the normalisation of free T3 (FT3) using intravenous methylprednisolone (ivMP) in AIT refractory to thiamazole and oral prednisone. Namely, in three males (aged 56, 50 and 64, all with a history of AF and/or a low ejection fraction), an addition of ivMP resulted in the normalisation of FT3, which allowed successful thyroidectomy.

Introduction: There has been a rising trend in the use of silicone breast implants for breast reconstructions after breast cancer treatment, as well as in the aesthetic breast procedures. A cluster of non-specific symptoms related to the presence of silicone implant has been called breast implant illness (BII). However, there are no strict criteria of BII which would specifically define this term.

Background: Gastrointestinal endoscopy is a procedure that carries an increased risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 infection to medical staff. In patients, COVID-19 is a risk factor for adverse events of medical procedures. This study analyzed the real-life risk of, and factors contributing to, infection transmission to endoscopic personnel, and possible adverse events of the endoscopy procedure and anesthesia in children with COVID-19.

The echocardiographic monitoring of a fetus with multiple nuchal cords around the fetal neck is important as it may result in cardiac remodeling and preferential streaming, thus affecting the condition of the fetus. The main aim of our study was to assess whether the collision of the umbilical cord around the fetal neck can lead to discrepancies in the size of the pulmonary artery and the aorta in the three-vessel view and to an increase in the size of the heart, which may result from the compression of the carotid arteries caused by the umbilical cord wrapping around the fetal neck. A total number of 854 patients were included in this study and divided into three groups.
