Introduction: Adhesive capsulitis (AC), which is characterised by shoulder pain and a limited range of motion (ROM), is usually diagnosed on the basis of clinical suspicion, with imaging only being used to exclude other causes of similar symptoms. The aim of this study was to identify and describe the typical ultrasound (US) features of AC in a group of patients with shoulder pain and stiffness.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 1486 patients with AC in which two experienced US specialists examined the axillary pouch (AP), the coracohumeral ligament (CHL), the superior glenohumeral ligament (SGHL), and the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT), and dynamically visualised the infraspinatus tendon during passive external rotation (PER) during a US evaluation of shoulder ROM.

The autologous serum skin test (ASST) has been used in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) as a means to detect an autoreactivity state for thirty-five years now. Nonetheless, several aspects of this old diagnostic test are still insufficiently defined. Particularly, the nature of the factor(s) responsible for the appearance of the wheal-and-flare skin reaction is still poorly characterized.

Ovarian cancer (OC) remains a fatal malignancy because most patients experience recurrent disease, which is resistant to chemotherapy. The outcomes for patients with platinum-resistant OC are poor, response rates to further chemotherapy are low and median survival is lower than 12 months. The complexity of platinum-resistant OC, which comprises a heterogeneous spectrum of diseases, is indeed far from being completely understood.

Early diagnosis and timely and appropriate treatments positively influence the history of fibromyalgia syndrome (FM), with favourable repercussions at clinical, psychological, social and economic levels. Notwithstanding, there are still significant problems with timeliness of diagnosis, access to pharmacological therapies - particularly to innovative ones - and appropriate and effective taking in charge of patients. All the aforementioned factors have a great impact on FM patients' quality of life.

Fibromyalgia syndrome is one of the most common causes of chronic widespread pain, but pain accompanies a wide range of ancillary symptoms. To date, its aetiopathogenesis remains elusive, and diagnosis is exquisitely clinical, due to the lack of biomarkers or specific laboratory alterations in fibromyalgia patients. This position paper has the purpose to summarise the current scientific knowledge and expert opinions about the main controversies regarding fibromyalgia syndrome, namely: (i) fibromyalgia definition and why it is still not recognised in many countries as a distinct clinical entity; (ii) fibromyalgia severity and how to evaluate treatment outcome; (iii) how to treat fibromyalgia and which is a correct approach to fibromyalgia patients.

We investigated SARS-CoV-2 transmission dynamics in Italy, one of the countries hit hardest by the pandemic, using phylodynamic analysis of viral genetic and epidemiological data. We observed the co-circulation of multiple SARS-CoV-2 lineages over time, which were linked to multiple importations and characterized by large transmission clusters concomitant with a high number of infections. Subsequent implementation of a three-phase nationwide lockdown strategy greatly reduced infection numbers and hospitalizations.

Purpose: The double-staple technique, performed as either the standard procedure or after eversion of the rectal stump, is a well-established method of performing low colorectal anastomoses following the resection of rectal cancer. Eversion of the tumor-bearing ano-rectal stump was proposed to allow the linear stapler to be fired at a safe distance of clearance from the tumor. We conducted this study to compare the results of the standard versus the eversion-modified double-staple technique.
