The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in ophthalmology has promoted the development of the discipline, offering opportunities for enhancing diagnostic accuracy, patient care, and treatment outcomes. This paper aims to provide a foundational understanding of AI applications in ophthalmology, with a focus on interpreting studies related to AI-driven diagnostics. The core of our discussion is to explore various AI methods, including deep learning (DL) frameworks for detecting and quantifying ophthalmic features in imaging data, as well as using transfer learning for effective model training in limited datasets.

Non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) protects plants from photodamage caused by excess light energy. Substantial variation in NPQ has been reported among different genotypes of the same species. However, comparatively little is known about how environmental perturbations, including nutrient deficits, impact natural variation in NPQ kinetics.

The purpose of this paper is to formulate recommendations for the disclosure of biological traces in the laboratory and the handling of forensic evidence submitted for identification tests, recommended by the Polish Speaking Working Group of the International Society for Forensic Genetics. The paper organizes the knowledge of the most relevant stages of preliminary analysis of biological traces based on both literature sources and those resulting from years of research practice. Recommendations formulated in the course of multi-stage expert consultations contained in this study should be used in the development of laboratory procedures applied during the execution.

Importance: Various studies have widely explored the association between index of dietary inflammation (DII) and occurrence of diseases. Accumulating evidence have revealed that a lower DII seems to be protective against a variety of diseases. Nevertheless, the association between DII and age-related cataract remains unclear.

Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have enabled breakthroughs across many scientific disciplines. In organic chemistry, the challenge of planning complex multistep chemical syntheses should conceptually be well-suited for AI. Yet, the development of AI synthesis planners trained solely on reaction-example-data has stagnated and is not on par with the performance of "hybrid" algorithms combining AI with expert knowledge.

The present study was designed to investigate the physical stability of three organic materials with similar chemical structures. The examined compounds revealed completely different crystallization tendencies in their supercooled liquid states and were classified into three distinct classes based on their tendency to crystallize. (S)-4-Benzyl-2-oxazolidinone easily crystallizes during cooling from the melt; (S)-4-Benzylthiazolidine-2-thione does not crystallize during cooling from the melt, but crystallizes easily during subsequent reheating above ; and (S)-4-Benzyloxazolidine-2-thione does not crystallize either during cooling from the melt or during reheating.

Newly discovered altermagnets are magnetic materials exhibiting both compensated magnetic order, similar to antiferromagnets, and simultaneous non-relativistic spin-splitting of the bands, akin to ferromagnets. This characteristic arises from specific symmetry operation that connects the spin sublattices. In this report, we show with calculations that semiconductive MnSe exhibits altermagnetic spin-splitting in the wurtzite phase as well as a critical temperature well above room temperature.

The epicanthus is a fold of skin covering the inner corner of the eye which blends into the nasal skin. It is a cosmetic feature of many populations of the world. The surgical alteration of this structure was first developed for the epicanthus found in such congenital genetic conditions as Down syndrome in the West.
