Transvenous extraction of the leads in children is associated with a higher risk of serious complications, that is why it is reluctantly performed. Unfortunately, this conservative approach has been associated with secondary complications (tricuspid valve dysfunction and bilateral venous obstruction), adverse events during lead removal procedure and recanalization and stenting of chest veins. We present a case of a 27-year-old female with a pacemaker and insertion of two new leads on the opposite side of the chest leaving the old ones in place.

BACKGROUND Arterioportal fistulas (APFs) are abnormal connections between the arterial and portal venous systems, leading to portal hypertension (PH) and symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, splenomegaly, and hepatic pain. Symptoms typically appear by the age of 2 years in about 75% of cases. CASE REPORT A 7-year-old boy with an asymptomatic APF developed life-threatening complications following a Clostridium difficile infection.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder marked by both motor and non-motor symptoms that necessitate ongoing clinical evaluation and medication adjustments. Home-based wearable sensor monitoring offers a detailed and continuous record of patient symptoms, potentially enhancing disease management. The EmPark-PKG study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Parkinson's KinetoGraph (PKG), a wearable sensor device, in monitoring and tracking the progression of motor symptoms over 12 months in Emirati and non-Emirati PD patients.

The purpose of our research was to identify the primary personality traits of bonnet macaques using an observer-based questionnaire and to assess the accuracy of this method in predicting behavior. Additionally, we examined the relationship between personality traits and variables such as sex, age, and rank. We rated 25 males and 38 females on 50 personality questionnaire items using a 7-point scale, with reliable ratings and good agreement among raters (the lowest of the calculated ICC (3:k) index ≥ 0.

Assessing actual and potential impacts of non-native species is necessary for prioritising their management. Traditional assessments often occur at the species level, potentially overlooking differences among populations. The recently developed Dispersal-Origin-Status-Impact (DOSI) assessment scheme addresses this by treating biological invasions as population-level phenomena, incorporating the complexities affecting populations of non-native species.

Due to its course, multiple myeloma may negatively affect the functioning of patients. Different treatment methods are also associated with patients' varying perception of their health condition. The purpose of this study is to determine the disease-specific complaints among multiple myeloma patients during selected treatment methods-chemotherapy, autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and supportive therapy.

The aim of this research is to create an automated system for identifying soil microorganisms at the genera level based on raw microscopic images of monocultural colonies grown in laboratory environment. The examined genera are: Fusarium, Trichoderma, Verticillium, Purpureolicillium and Phytophthora. The proposed pipeline deals with unprocessed microscopic images, avoiding additional sample marking or coloration.

The CEL-HYB1 hybrid allele of the carboxyl ester lipase (CEL) gene and its pseudogene (CELP) has been associated with chronic pancreatitis (CP). Recent work indicated that amino acid positions 488 and 548 in CEL-HYB1 determined pathogenicity. Haplotype Thr488-Ile548 was associated with CP while haplotypes Thr488-Thr548 and Ile488-Thr548 were benign.

Patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) are reported to have disrupted autobiographical memory (AM). Using functional magnetic resonance imaging we investigated behavioral and neural processing of the recall of emotional (sad and happy) memories in 30 MDD, 18 BPD, and 34 healthy control (HC) unmedicated women. The behavioral results showed that the MDD group experienced more sadness than the HC after the sad recall, while BPD participants experienced less happiness than HC after the happy recall.

Engine oil is a valuable source of information on the technical condition of the drive unit. Under the influence of many factors, including operating conditions, time, high temperature, and various types of contamination, the oil gradually degrades, which can result in serious engine damage. The subject of the article focuses on an attempt to answer the questions of how engine failure affects the degradation of engine oil and whether we can use this knowledge to detect potential problems in public transport vehicles at an early stage.

The present meta-analysis aimed to provide the most detailed and comprehensive anatomical description of bronchial arteries (BAs) using data available in the literature. Adequate knowledge of the normal anatomy and morphological variations of BAs can be clinically significant; for example, this approach can prevent potential risks while undertaking bronchial artery embolization (BAE) procedures and, ultimately, lead to better patient outcomes. Major medical databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library were searched.

This study presents characterisation of diatom's PtLPCAT1 (acyl-CoA: lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase) activity in phospholipid remodelling. In this research microsomal fractions of yeast Δale1 mutant overexpressing PtLPCAT1 were used as a source of the tested enzyme. In the assays evaluating remodelling of different phospholipids by PtLPCAT1 not modified microsomal fractions of the tested yeast were used.

However, upon UV irradiation low-fidelity translesion polymerases: Polη, Polζ and Rev1, participate in an error-free replicative bypass of UV-induced lesions in mtDNA. We analysed how translesion polymerases could function in mitochondria.

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with the transient activation of a systemic inflammatory response. Fibronectin (FN), an endogenous inflammatory mediator, is a key component of the extracellular matrix. This study aimed to detect changes in cellular and plasma FN levels, as well as its potential fragmentation or FN-fibrin complex formation, in 40 patients undergoing CABG with CPB.

The formation of a S-shaped filament was investigated to determine if and how magnetoacoustic waves in the solar corona can trigger filament excitation. The study investigated how magnetoacoustic waves interact with two magnetic null points in the solar corona. Since the solar corona has a complex magnetic field structure, it is expected that magnetic structures are predominantly responsible for the occurrence of coronal events.

This review describes various aspects of the leptin resistance phenomenon and related physiological mechanisms that occur in pregnant sheep. Its main aim is to analyze the mechanisms that determine the occurrence of pregnancy-induced leptin resistance and to investigate the accompanying processes that affect the physiology of pregnancy and lactation in livestock. The main purpose of this analysis was to comprehensively understand the phenomenon of leptin resistance, including the causes of its emergence and its effects on nonrodent organisms.
