Importance: Perioperative bleeding is common in general surgery. The POISE-3 (Perioperative Ischemic Evaluation-3) trial demonstrated efficacy of prophylactic tranexamic acid (TXA) compared with placebo in preventing major bleeding without increasing vascular outcomes in noncardiac surgery.
Objective: To determine the safety and efficacy of prophylactic TXA, specifically in general surgery.
Background: Bariatric surgeries, such as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), not only result in significant weight loss but also improve the inflammatory state in obese patients. This study aimed to investigate the effects of LSG on weight loss and inflammation status in bariatric patients 1-year post-procedure.
Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted from September 2022 to May 2024.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem autoimmune rheumatic disease (ARD) that results from the dysregulation of multiple innate and adaptive immune pathways. Late-onset SLE (Lo-SLE) is the term used when the disease is first diagnosed after 50-65 years, though the standard age cut-off remains undefined. Defining "late-onset" as lupus with onset after 50 years is more biologically plausible as this roughly corresponds to the age of menopause.

Background: The presented study identified the appropriate ocrelizumab dosing regimen for patients with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (POMS).
Methods: Patients with POMS aged 10-17 years were enrolled into cohort 1 (body weight [BW] < 40 kg, ocrelizumab 300 mg) and cohort 2 (BW ≥ 40 kg, ocrelizumab 600 mg) during a 24-week dose-exploration period (DEP), followed by an optional ocrelizumab (given every 24 weeks) extension period.
Primary Endpoints: pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics (CD19 B-cell count); secondary endpoint: safety; exploratory endpoints: MRI activity, protocol-defined relapses, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score change.

Two Co(II) mixed-ligand metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on 2-methylimidazole and trimesate were synthesised at room temperature. The structure and properties of the two MOFs, named material Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron-1 and -2 (mDESY-1 and mDESY-2), were verified by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), SQUID magnetic susceptibility and N adsorption. The structural analysis indicates that mDESY-1 is a 3D ionic framework with 2-methyl-1-imidazol-3-ium counterions residing in its pores, while mDESY-2 is a 2D neutral framework isostructural to ITH-1, with water as a co-crystallising solvent.

The article provides a review of the sensory processing (SP) phenomenon, its origins, theoretical models, and neurophysiological foundations. Initiated by A. Jean Ayres' research on sensory integration in the 1960s and 70s, this field has evolved, leading to the development of concepts such as Winnie Dunn's four quadrant model and Miller's ecological model of sensory modulation.

The phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) gene is a critical tumor suppressor that plays an essential role in the development and functionality of the central nervous system. Located on chromosome 10 in humans and chromosome 19 in mice, PTEN encodes a protein that regulates cellular processes such as division, proliferation, growth, and survival by antagonizing the PI3K‑Akt‑mTOR signaling pathway. In neurons, PTEN dephosphorylates phosphatidylinositol‑3,4,5‑trisphosphate (PIP3) to PIP2, thereby modulating key signaling cascades involved in neurogenesis, neuronal migration, and synaptic plasticity.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is among the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in humans. While public awareness of the challenges faced by individuals with autism is steadily increasing, the underlying causes of abnormalities observed in ASD remains incompletely understood. The autism spectrum is notably broad, with symptoms that can manifest in various forms and degrees of severity.

Methods: At 7-8 months after admission, 138 patients completed the PCL-5 and TIPI questionnaires, as well as the HADS and AIS scales. Correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used in the models.

The advancement of organic room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials has attracted considerable interest owing to their extensive applications. Their distinct advantages, including a metal-free composition, low toxicity, and facile synthesis under ambient conditions, make them highly desirable. This study examines the delayed fluorescence (DF) and RTP of metal-free, amorphous indenophenanthridine (IND)-based derivatives (1-10) and provides insights into molecular functionalisation and host matrix effects on delayed emission (RTP and DF).

Objectives: Hyperandrogenism is a frequently recognized endocrine imbalance in which there is excessive production of androgens. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms on chosen bone metabolism and biochemical parameters in women with hyperandrogenism.
Material And Methods: Eighty young females with hyperandrogenism were enrolled in the study, in whom selected parameters of bone turnover, endocrine and metabolic parameters were determined.

In women after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), complications associated with the original disease and therapies used both before and after transplantation often occur, which significantly affects their quality of life. The most common gynaecological complications include secondary cancers, premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), infertility and chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). Cervical cancer is the most common secondary genital cancer in patients after HSCT.

Introduction: In the course of middle ear diseases, a disturbed influence of the system transmitting sound through the middle ear on the function of the inner ear is observed. The audiometric consequence of the disease process taking place in the middle ear is the shift in bone conduction (BC) thresholds, which is called pseudoperceptive hearing loss (the so-called Carhart effect). The natural process of aging of the hearing system (age-related hearing loss) means that the manifestation of the Carhart effect varies in different age groups.

Ultrasmall micro-light-emitting diodes (μLEDs), sized below 10 μm, are indispensable to create the next-generation augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) devices. Their high brightness and low power consumption could not only enhance the user experience by providing vivid and lifelike visuals but also extend device longevity. However, a notable challenge emerges: a decrease in efficiency with a reduced size.

The purpose of this review was to analyse the literature regarding the correlation between the level of tryptamine, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) signalling pathway activation, and monoamine oxidase (MAO)-A and MAO-B activity in health and conditions such as neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental, and psychiatric disorders. Tryptamine is generated through the decarboxylation of tryptophan by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) in the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral nervous system (PNS), endocrine system, and gut bacteria. Organ-specific metabolism of tryptamine, which is mediated by different MAO isoforms, causes this trace amine to have different pharmacokinetics between the brain and periphery.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40. Changes in the immune system also observed in cancer may suggest a higher prevalence of cancer in the MS patient population. In recent years, many highly effective immunosuppressive drugs have been introduced into disease-modifying therapy (DMT) which may be associated with a higher risk of cancer development in patients with MS.
