Electrospun nanofiber scaffolds have become vital in biomedical applications due to their high surface area and tunable properties. Chitosan (CS) is widely used, but its rapid degradation limits its effectiveness. This study addresses this limitation by blending CS with polycaprolactone (PCL) and applying genipin cross-linking to enhance its stability and mechanical properties.

Rationale: The analysis of natural abundance isotopes in biogenic NO molecules provides valuable insights into the nature of their precursors and their role in biogeochemical cycles. However, current methodologies (for example, the isotopocule map approach) face limitations, as they only enable the estimation of combined contributions from multiple processes at once rather than discriminating individual sources. This study aimed to overcome this challenge by developing a novel methodology for the partitioning of NO sources in soil, combining natural abundance isotopes and the use of a N tracer (N Gas Flux method) in parallel incubations.

Background: Hazard and risk assessment of nanomaterials (NMs) face challenges due to, among others, the numerous existing nanoforms, discordant data and conflicting results found in the literature, and specific challenges in the application of strategies such as grouping and read-across, emphasizing the need for New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to support Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA). Here these challenges are addressed in a study that couples physico-chemical characterization with in vitro investigations and in silico similarity analyses for nine nanoforms, having different chemical composition, sizes, aggregation states and shapes. For cytotoxicity assessment, three methods (Alamar Blue, Colony Forming Efficiency, and Electric Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing) are applied in a cross-validation approach to support NAMs implementation into NGRA.

Introduction: Despite achieving sustained viral response (SVR) after treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), the risk of liver disease progression and extrahepatic complications in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) remains. We aimed to determine the role of residual HCV-RNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), a condition known as occult hepatitis C (OCI), and systemic inflammatory markers as predictors of long-term outcomes in patients treated with DAAs.
Methods: We followed 42 patients treated with DAAs with OCI status determined after therapy, for a median of 6.

Given the ubiquitous nature of love, numerous theories have been proposed to explain its existence. One such theory refers to love as a commitment device, suggesting that romantic love evolved to foster commitment between partners and enhance their reproductive success. In the present study, we investigated this hypothesis using a large-scale sample of 86,310 individual responses collected across 90 countries.

From the evolutionary perspective, maintaining a committed relationship is beneficial for reproductive success but involves risks such as losing a partner or infidelity. People typically prefer partners with similar mate value (MV) to avoid rejection. However, when a mate value discrepancy (MVD) arises, the partner with lower MV might employ mate retention strategies to maintain the relationship.

This paper provides extensive studies of [IrCl(Ph-py)(morph-CH-terpy-κN)]PF (), [Ir(Ph-py)(morph-CH-terpy-κN)]PF (), [IrCl(Ph-py)(Ph-terpy-κN)]PF (), and [Ir(Ph-py)(Ph-terpy-κN)]PF () designed to demonstrate the possibility of controlling the photophysical properties of mono- and bis-cyclometalated complexes [IrCl(Ph-py)(R-CH-terpy-κN)]PF and [Ir(Ph-py)(R-CH-terpy-κN)]PF through a remote electron-donating substituent introduced into the 4'-position of 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine (terpy) via the phenyl linker. The attachment of the morpholinyl (morph) group was evidenced to induce dramatic changes in the emission characteristics of the monocyclometalated Ir(III) systems with coordinated R-CH-terpy ligand (κN). In solution, the obtained complex [IrCl(Ph-py)(morph-CH-terpy-κN)]PF was found to be a rare example of dual-emissive Ir(III) systems.
