Background: A growing body of research suggests that the provision of social support can have benefits not only for the recipients but also for the provider. Although initial evidence for affective, self-evaluative and physiological outcomes has been established, the beneficial effects of support provision do not occur consistently across all support interactions, and some interactions may even have detrimental effects on providers. The aim of our experimental paradigm is to enable researchers to test the conditions under which the provision of social support to dyadic partners affects affective, self-evaluative, physiological, and relationship outcomes for the provider.

Analysis of the symmetry of the brain hemispheres at the level of individual structures and dominant tissue features has been the subject of research for many years in the context of improving the effectiveness of imaging methods for the diagnosis of brain tumor, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease, among others. One useful approach is to reliably determine the midline of the brain, which allows comparative analysis of the hemispheres and uncovers information on symmetry/asymmetry in the relevant planes of, for example, CT scans. Therefore, an effective method that is robust to various geometric deformations, artifacts, varying noise characteristics, and natural anatomical variability is sought.

In this study, a relationship between climate indices (local - air temperatures, and wide-scale - North Atlantic Oscillation) and first arrival dates (FAD) of a short-distant migratory bird, the Common Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus) at a breeding site in SE Poland (Lublin) was investigated. Temporal patterns of FAD on a multi-year scale (20 years within 39 years between 1982 and 2020) were also studied. Additionally, correlations between mean air temperature at Lublin and sites along the spring migration route with various distances from the breeding site and various time lags were searched for.

Iron-sulfur clusters are essential metallocofactors synthesized by multiprotein machineries via an unclear multistep process. Here we report a step-by-step dissection of the [2Fe-2S] cluster assembly process by the Escherichia coli iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) assembly machinery using an in vitro reconstituted system and a combination of biochemical and spectroscopic techniques. We show that this process is initiated by iron binding to the scaffold protein IscU, which triggers persulfide insertion by the cysteine desulfurase IscS upon the formation of a complex with IscU.

Humans adjust their movement to changing environments effortlessly via multisensory integration of the effector's state, motor commands, and sensory feedback. It is postulated that frontoparietal (FP) networks are involved in the control of prehension, with dorsomedial (DM) and dorsolateral (DL) regions processing the reach and the grasp, respectively. Our previous in silico data indicated an overrepresentation of the ZF5 motif in the promoters of genes in which circadian oscillations are altered in the ventral hippocampus in the pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy in mice. In this study, we test the hypothesis that the Zbtb14 protein oscillates in the hippocampus in a diurnal manner and that this oscillation is disrupted by epilepsy. We found that Zbtb14 immunostaining is present in the cytoplasm and cell nuclei.

The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of the nitrocarburizing process carried out in low temperature plasma using the active screen at 440 °C on the structure and physicochemical properties of the 316LVM steel. In the paper, results of micro-structure and phase composition of the layers, roughness, and surface wettability, potentiodynamic pitting corrosion resistance, penetration of ions into the solution as well as biological tests were present.
