Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on admission rates and in-hospital mortality among patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
Methods: We constructed a dataset detailing the monthly hospitalizations and mortality rates of inpatients with stroke from January 2017 to December 2021. Employing an interrupted time series analysis, we explored the impact of COVID-19 on hospitalizations and 30-day in-hospital mortality among stroke patients.

Early-stage stroke monitoring enables timely intervention that is crucial to minimizing neuronal damage and increasing the extent of recovery. By monitoring collateral circulation and neovascularization after ischemic stroke, the natural recovery process can be better understood, optimize further treatment strategies, and improve the prognosis. Photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT), a non-invasive imaging modality that captures multiparametric high-resolution images of vessel structures, is well suited for evaluating cerebrovascular structures and their function.

Introduction And Objectives: The current study aimed to evaluate the causal association between hemodynamically significant stenosis and the occurrence of ischemic myocardium using an experimental animal model of coronary artery stenosis.
Methods: In Yorkshire swine (n=10), coronary stenosis in the left anterior descending artery was induced using a customized vascular occluder to create varying degrees of occlusion severity (40%-99%). Serial changes in coronary pressure and flow velocity were measured in the left anterior descending artery before and after the implantation of the vascular occluder.

Objective: To distinguish infarct location and type with the utmost precision using the advantages of the Swin UNEt TRansformers (Swin UNETR) architecture.
Methods: The research employed a two-phase training approach. In the first phase, the Swin UNETR model was trained using the Ischemic Stroke Lesion Segmentation Challenge (ISLES) 2022 dataset, which included cases of acute and subacute infarcts.

Purpose: Clinical studies on dysbiosis and stroke outcomes has been insufficient to establish clear evidence. This study aimed to investigate the effects of pre-antibiotic use before a stroke event on secondary outcomes using a longitudinal population-level database.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adults aged 55 years or older diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and acute hemorrhagic stroke (AHS) between 2004 and 2007.

Ischemic stroke segmentation at an acute stage is vital in assessing the severity of patients' impairment and guiding therapeutic decision-making for reperfusion. Although many deep learning studies have shown attractive performance in medical segmentation, it is difficult to use these models trained on public data with private hospitals' datasets. Here, we demonstrate an ensemble model that employs two different multimodal approaches for generalization, a more effective way to perform on external datasets.

Background: An electrodiagnostic evaluation is conducted to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and evaluate its severity.
Objective: This study proposes a revised approach for classifying the severity of electrophysiological findings for patients with CTS.
Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included patients with CTS confirmed through electrodiagnostic evaluations.

Bolus segmentation is crucial for the automated detection of swallowing disorders in videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). However, it is difficult for the model to accurately segment a bolus region in a VFSS image because VFSS images are translucent, have low contrast and unclear region boundaries, and lack color information. To overcome these challenges, we propose PECI-Net, a network architecture for VFSS image analysis that combines two novel techniques: the preprocessing ensemble network (PEN) and the cascaded inference network (CIN).

Rationale: The incidence of a schwannoma within the psoas muscle is rare, and only a few cases have been reported. The surgical approach to removing schwannomas present in the psoas muscle is challenging because of its anatomical proximity to the lumbar plexus.
Patient Concerns: A 31-year-old man experienced right lower back pain and anterolateral thigh numbness for 2 months.

Pulmonary artery catheterization (PAC) has been used as a clinical standard for cardiac output (CO) measurements on humans. On animals, however, an ultrasonic flow sensor (UFS) placed around the ascending aorta or pulmonary artery can measure CO and stroke volume (SV) more accurately. The objective of this paper is to compare CO and SV measurements using a noninvasive electrical impedance tomography (EIT) device and three invasive devices using UFS, PAC-CCO (continuous CO) and arterial pressure-based CO (APCO).

Purpose: Central, peripheral, and root motor conduction times (CMCTs, PMCTs, and RMCTs, respectively) are valuable diagnostic tools for spinal cord and motor nerve root lesions. We investigated the normal values and the effects of age and height on each motor conduction time.
Methods: This study included 190 healthy Korean subjects who underwent magnetic stimulation of the cortex and spinous processes at the C7 and L1 levels.

This study aimed to present current global microsurgical treatment practices and to identify risk factors for complications and neurological deterioration after clipping of unruptured anterior circulation aneurysms.
Methods: Fifteen centers from 4 continents participated in this retrospective cohort study.

Objective: Although several studies have reported successful fusion rates after oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) using allografts or dimerized bone matrix (DBM) instead of autografts, whether OLIF can achieve satisfactory solid fusion without the use of autografts remains unclear. This study investigated the real fusion rates after OLIF using allografts and DBM, which were evaluated using both dynamic radiographs and computed tomography scans.
Methods: We enrolled 79 consecutive patients who underwent minimally invasive OLIF followed by percutaneous pedicle screw fixation.

Background: As intermediate cardiovascular risk group accounts for a large part of the total population, determining appropriate cholesterol target in this population is critical. Herein, we investigated the optimal low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level in individuals with intermediate cardiovascular risk after statin therapy.
Methods: This was a nationwide observational and validation cohort study (median duration of follow-up: 7.

Background: Falls are one of the most common accidents in medical institutions, which can threaten the safety of inpatients and negatively affect their prognosis. Herein, we developed a machine learning (ML) model for fall prediction in patients with acute stroke and compared its accuracy with that of the existing fall risk prediction tool, the Morse Fall Scale (MFS).
Methods: This is a retrospective nested case-control study.

Leg pain can be caused by both lumbar spinal disease and chronic venous disorder (CVD) of leg veins, but their clinical differences have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to determine the incidence of CVD among patients visiting a spine center for leg pain. A total of 196 cases underwent ultrasound examination with a diagnosis rate were 85.

To evaluate the effects of aspirin in the primary prevention, we evaluated disability grades and mortality after ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke and myocardial infarction (MI). A retrospective nation-wide propensity score-matched cohort study was performed using the Korean National Health Information Database. From 3,060,639 subjects who were older than 55 and performed national health examinations in 2004 and 2005, we selected the aspirin group (N = 8770) was composed of patients who had received aspirin prior to cardiovascular events.
