Introduction: Salivary gland cancers represent a rare heterogeneous group of neoplasms with complex clinicopathological characteristics and distinct biological behaviour. The appropriate diagnosis and management of parotid gland cancer are challenging and should be based on the clinical, imaging, cytological, and histological features. The present study analysed the use of preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and intraoperative frozen section (FS) to guide the appropriate surgical and postoperative treatment of parotid gland cancers.

Background: Differentiating among the different types of parotid tumors on imaging is useful for guiding clinical disposition, which ultimately may lead to surgical management. The goal of this study was to determine whether quantitative T2 signal characteristics and morphologic features on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can serve as predictive biomarkers for distinguishing between tumor types.
Methods: A retrospective review of T2-weighted MRIs in patients with pathology-proven parotid tumors was performed.

Background: Surgery, the treatment of choice for parotid pleomorphic adenoma (PA), is associated with facial nerve palsy and decreased quality of life. Re-operation for PA recurrence (rPA) significantly increases these risks and constitutes a dilemma for both patient and surgeon. Factors influencing the success of re-operation, as well as the self-reported satisfaction of both sides, have yet to be addressed in the literature.

Pleomorphic adenoma originating from the external auditory canal is extremely rare, benign tumor. Ceruminal glands are modified sweat glands of the skin, present in the external auditory canal that may give rise to (a) benign tumors such as ceruminous adenoma, pleomorphic adenoma, and syringocystadenoma papilliferum, or (b) malignant tumors such as ceruminous adenocarcinoma, adenoid cystic carcinoma, and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. We report a case where a 25-year-old woman presented with right aural swelling and otalgia since 1 year.

Background: Increased use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods such as diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI consisting of sequential contrast series, allows us to obtain more information on the microstructure, cellularity, interstitial distance, and vascularity of tumors, which has increased the discrimination power for benign and malignant salivary gland tumors (SGTs). In the last few years, quantitative DCE MRI data containing T1 perfusion parameters (K, K and V), were reported to contribute to the differentiation of benign or malignant subtypes in SGTs.
Aim: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of DWI and semiquantitative and quantitative perfusion MRI parameters in SGTs.

Background: Canalicular adenoma is a rare, benign tumor of primarily salivary gland origin that presents mostly in the upper lip. However, there are only six reports in the English literature detailing canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland, none of which discuss discrepancy between preoperative cytology and surgical pathology. In this report, we present a rare case of parotid gland canalicular adenoma where preoperative ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (USFNA) suggested malignancy.

Objective: The preoperative diagnostical differentiation of parotid gland tumor (PGT) is not always simple due to several different entities. B-mode-ultrasound (US) remains the imaging modality of choice, while histopathology serves as the gold standard for finalizing the diagnosis. We aimed to evaluate the use of multiparametric US (mpUS) in the assessment of PGT.

Primary parotid tuberculosis is a well-known but extremely rare entity even in endemic countries. Most of the cases are diagnosed late in the course of illness when the parotid shows features of cold abscess leading to facial disfigurement. Early diagnosis is a clinical challenge due to lack of clinical suspicion as well as absence of clinical or radiological tests suggestive of the disease.
