Methods: Patients undergoing gender-affirming mastectomy with free nipple grafts were prospectively enrolled.

Long-term Breast Shape Analysis After Short-scar Reduction Mammaplasty: A Critical View.

Background: Over the past 2 decades, vertical scar reduction mammaplasty techniques have been gaining more acceptance. However, many surgeons are still hesitant to use it routinely because of the uncertainty of the effectiveness of vertical scar techniques in managing lower pole skin excess. We aimed to test its efficacy by using objective anthropometric measurements to evaluate long-term breast shape and lower pole stability.

Methods: Subspecialty-based procedures' facility prices and relative value units (RVUs) were sourced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Physician Fee Schedule. Prices were adjusted for inflation, and the average percent change in facility price and RVUs for each subspecialty was calculated.

Lymphedema, a severe and complex inflammatory disease caused by lymphatic system insufficiency and impeded lymphatic drainage that causes an enormous physical and psychological burden on patients and may even lead to death, has long been a challenging issue in the medical field. Clinically, conventional approaches including surgical treatment and conservative treatment have been employed for lymphedema therapy, but their curative effect is still unsatisfactory because of high operational difficulty, high cost, and long-term reliance. In this study, a novel kind of piezoelectric microneedle driven by ultrasound (US) is proposed to regulate macrophage polarization and remodel the pathological inflammatory microenvironment in a noninvasive manner, thereby promoting lymphatic regeneration and improving lymphedema.

Systematic review of machine learning applications using nonoptical motion tracking in surgery.

This systematic review explores machine learning (ML) applications in surgical motion analysis using non-optical motion tracking systems (NOMTS), alone or with optical methods. It investigates objectives, experimental designs, model effectiveness, and future research directions. From 3632 records, 84 studies were included, with Artificial Neural Networks (38%) and Support Vector Machines (11%) being the most common ML models.

Methods: In this study, a retrospective review and dosimetric analysis of patients with breast cancer who underwent immediate implant-based reconstruction and postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) were performed.

Improvement in Temple Hollowing with VYC-20L Hyaluronic Acid Filler: A Multicenter, Randomized Controlled Trial of Safety and Effectiveness.

Background: Temple hollowing is characterized by the reduction of volume in the temporal fossa, which can result in a skeletonized look and contribute to an aged appearance. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the VYC-20L injectable gel for improvement of temple hollowing.

Methods: Adults with minimal, moderate, or severe temple hollows were randomized 2:1 to receive VYC-20L or no treatment.

Background: Abdominoplasty may be considered a procedure performed after a patient has already lost weight, but many surgeons have clinically observed that patients continue to lose weight in the postoperative period. Background: Community acquired lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) is a leading cause for hospitalization in children and important cause for antibiotic prescription. We aimed to describe the aetiology of LRTI in children and analyse factors associated with bacterial or viral infection.

Methods: Patients aged < 19 years with a diagnosis of LRTI were identified from the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model Database of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from January 2005-July 2019, and their clinical characteristics were obtained from the electronic medical records and retrospectively reviewed.

Effectiveness and safety of negative pressure wound therapy in patients with deep sternal wound infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a severe and life-threatening complication following cardiovascular surgery. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has emerged as a promising therapeutic bridging option for DSWI. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the authors aimed to evaluate the impact of NPWT on clinical outcomes in patients with DSWI.

Advances in surgical management of chronic lymphedema: current strategies and future directions.

Lymphedema is a chronic condition caused by the accumulation of protein-rich fluid in the interstitial tissue, resulting in edema and a diminished quality of life. When first-line treatments like complete decongestive therapy (CDT) fail, surgical options are considered. These include physiological procedures like lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) and vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT), which aim to restore lymphatic function, as well as reductive procedures such as liposuction and excisional techniques, which reduce limb volume.

Survival After Orbital Exenteration for Primary Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Locally advanced periorbital cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) may require orbital exenteration, which is highly morbid. As immunotherapy develops, orbit preservation may become widespread, and data benchmarking survival with current standard-of-care surgery and radiotherapy are essential to the integration of this emerging method into modern treatment paradigms. This study aimed to determine the survival of patients after orbital exenteration for cSCC and investigate contributing factors.

A Bioabsorbable Implant Seeded with Adipose-Derived Stem Cells for Adipose Regeneration.

Adipose tissue engineering requires effective strategies for regenerating adipose tissue, with adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) being favored due to their robust self-renewal capacity and multipotent differentiation potential. In this study, the efficacy of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) mesh containing collagen sponge (CS), seeded with ASCs to promote adipose tissue formation, was investigated. PLLA-CS implants seeded with GFP-positive ASCs were inserted at high concentration (1 × 10 cells/implant, H-ASC) and low concentration (1 × 10 cells/implant, L-ASC), as were unseeded controls.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to characterize the demographic, social, economic, and clinical factors of trauma surgery patients leaving against medical advice (AMA).

Methods: Data were retroactively obtained from a level-one trauma center in a medium-sized metropolitan area from January 2017 to December 2021. The sample population consisted of patients admitted or treated by the trauma surgical service.

Comparison of Carbon Dioxide Laser and Surgical Excision for the Treatment of Eyelid Margin Benign Tumors: A Prospective, Randomized, and Single-blind Study.

Objectives: This study aims to compare the safety and efficacy between carbon dioxide (CO2) laser excision and surgical excision for the treatment of eyelid margin benign tumors.

Methods: In this single-center, prospective, randomized, and single-blind study, 32 patients diagnosed with eyelid margin benign tumors were enrolled from February 2019 to February 2020 and randomly divided into 2 groups. The sexes, ages, tumor size (length×width), scar, procedure time, physicians' assessment score, patients' satisfaction score, and complications were recorded.
