Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD), a hallmark of age-related cognitive decline, is defined by its unique neuropathology. Metabolic dysregulation, particularly involving glutamine (Gln) metabolism, has emerged as a critical but underexplored aspect of AD pathophysiology, representing a significant gap in our current understanding of the disease.

Methods: To investigate the involvement of GlnMgs in AD, we conducted a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis.

Background: Ferroptosis is a cell death mode caused by excessive accumulation of lipid peroxides caused by disturbance of intracellular metabolic pathway, which is closely related to iron and cholesterol metabolism homeostasis. Its regulation within the hypoxic metabolic tumor microenvironment (TME) has the potential to improve the effectiveness of tumor immunotherapy. The predictive role of ferroptosis in gastric cancer (GC) hypoxia TME, particularly in relation to TME immune cell infiltration, has not been fully explained.

Glutamate-mediated antidepressant effects of Jieyu I Formula via modulation of PFC-LHb circuitry in lipopolysaccharide-induced depression model.

J Ethnopharmacol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome, International Institute for Translational Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmaceutical Science, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510006, China; Chinese Medicine Guangdong Laboratory, Guangdong Hengqin, 519031, China. Electronic address:

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Jieyu I Formula (JY-I) is an improved version of the classic formula "Sini San" documented in the books Shanghan Lun, which is known for regulating the liver and treating depression. However, the disturbance of neuronal signal transmission in the neural circuit of the brain is closely related to the occurrence of depression, yet its neural mechanism is still unclear.

Aim Of The Study: This study aimed to observe the antidepressant effect of JY-I on depressed mice induced by lipopolysaccharide and its underlying central nervous system mechanisms, focusing on the prefrontal cortex (PFC) to lateral habenular nucleus (LHb) neural circuit in the depressed mice model.

Comparative analysis of left atrial size and appendage morphology in paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation patients.

J Arrhythm

February 2025

Heart Center Munich-Bogenhausen, Department of Cardiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine Munich Hospital Bogenhausen, Munich Municipal Hospital Group Munich Germany.

Purpose: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is effective in treating atrial fibrillation (AF), but outcomes are worse for persistent AF (persAF) patients than paroxysmal AF (PAF) patients. The study aimed to identify differences in left atrial (LA) and left atrial appendage (LAA) anatomy in different AF types.

Methods: In a single-center observational study, a blinded retrospective analysis of preprocedural cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) images was performed.

AI, especially ChatGPT, is impacting healthcare through applications in research, patient communication, and training. To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine ChatGPT-4's ability to analyze images of lower leg defects and assesses its understanding of complex case reports in comparison to the performance of board-certified surgeons and residents. We conducted a cross-sectional survey in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, where 52 participants reviewed images depicting lower leg defects within fictitious patient profiles and selected the optimal reconstruction techniques.

EBUS-TBNA is the most common interventional pulmonology procedure performed globally and remains the cornerstone of the diagnosis and staging not only of lung cancer but also for other neoplastic, inflammatory, and infective pathologies of the mediastinum. Infective complications of EBUS-TBNA are underreported in the literature, but the constantly rising incidence of lung cancer is leading to an increasing number of EBUS-TBNA procedures and, therefore, to a significant number of infective complications, even 4 weeks following the procedure. In this review we attempt to summarize the risk factors related to these infective complications, along with useful biomarkers that can be used to identify patients that might develop infective complications, to facilitate the prediction or even prompt treatment of these.

The liver is crucial for metabolizing the anticancer drug palbociclib, but limited information is available on the impact of hepatic impairment on its toxicity and efficacy, with no real-world data available. This study aims to evaluate how hepatic impairment affects hematological toxicity and progression-free survival (PFS) of palbociclib in advanced hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative breast cancer, using the National Cancer Institute scoring system, in a large real-world dataset. This multicenter retrospective observational study included female patients treated with palbociclib between August 2017 and February 2024.

Background: Vertigo is a priority for training and decision support in emergency departments (ED). Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), though manageable at bedside, remains frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated. This study assessed the effectiveness of a two-tiered educational intervention on posterior and horizontal BPPV management in the ED setting.

Background: Remote patient monitoring implies continuous follow-up of health-related parameters of patients outside healthcare facilities. Patients share health-related data with their healthcare unit and obtain feedback (which may be automatically generated if data are within a predefined range). The goals of remote patient monitoring are improvements for patients and reduced healthcare costs.

Objective: To discuss the elbow skin fold extension line in Kirschner wire internal fixation of extended supracondylar humeral fractures in children.

Methods: The clinical data of 58 children with extended supracondylar fractures of the humerus who met the selection criteria between August 2021 and July 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. In 28 cases, needle placement of medial epicondyle of humerus was performed with the assistance of the elbow skin fold extension line (study group), and 30 cases were assisted by routine touch of the medial epicondyle of the humerus (control group).

Background: The utilization of standardized patient-rated outcome measures (PROMs) by hand therapists is essential to evaluate treatment and clinical outcomes and underpins evidence-based and patient-centered practice. However, research indicates that the routine use of PROMs is inconsistent in clinical practice.

Purpose: To explore the barriers and enablers experienced by hand therapists in the routine use of standardized and valid PROMs.

January 2025

School of Medicine and the Conway Research Institute, University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland; Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, St Vincent's Hospital Group, Dublin, Ireland.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are increasingly common in sleep research, although the methodological quality level has been a matter of concern. Efforts towards methodological standardization are needed to ensure the reliability of sleep-related systematic reviews. The development of search strategies is a critical step in a systematic review, which often lead to methodological biases.
