Immobilizing Interstitial Cardiac Fibrosis.

Cardiol Res

April 2023

St. George Clinic of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Pirogov National Medical & Surgical Center, 105203 Moscow, Russia.

Background: The alterations in the endomysium and perimysium might cause compaction and gradual mechanical compression of cardiomyocytes resulting in their immobilization. This process finally leads to severe stiffening, so that the newly formed frame around individual cardiomyocytes and their clusters hinders normal diastole, and later systole. This phenomenon is referred to as immobilizing interstitial cardiac fibrosis (IICF).

Direct cortical stimulation during awake craniotomy with speech testing became the «gold standard» in brain mapping and preserving speech zones during neurosurgical procedures. However, there are many other cerebral functions, and their loss can be very critical for certain patients. For example, such a function is production and perception of music for musicians.

Unlabelled: Nowadays, vertebral stenosis is the most common indication for surgical treatment in patients over 65 years old in spine surgery. According to the literature, there are conflicting data on the incidence and indications for revision surgery after previous spinal decompression and fusion for lumbar spinal stenosis.

Objective: To evaluate the incidence and indications for revision surgery after previous spinal decompression and fusion for lumbar spinal stenosis.

Unlabelled: Adults with large multilobar lesions of temporal, parietal and occipital lobes of the dominant hemisphere suffering from drug-resistant epilepsy were considered inoperable for a long time.

Objective: To demonstrate favorable postoperative outcome in a patient with massive periventricular heterotopia of the left temporal and occipital lobes complicated by drug-resistant epilepsy.

Material And Methods: We analyzed localization of the brain malformation (massive periventricular heterotopia) and its relationship with surrounding structures in a 38-year-old patient considering preoperative MRI, functional MRI and MR tractography data.

Background: Tumors of the paralimbic system were considered inoperable for a long time due to high risk of postoperative complications. However, there have been significant changes in surgical tactics for these neoplasms over the past decades. Despite the improvement of surgical principles for these tumors and development of new approaches, risks of surgical treatment are still high (up to 33.

Cardiac surgery remains a field of medicine with a high percentage of postoperative complications, including infectious ones. Modern data indicate a close relationship of infectious disorders with pathological changes in the composition of the gut microbiome; however, the extent of such changes in cardiac surgery patients is not fully clarified. In this prospective, observational, single center, pilot study, 72 patients were included, 12 among them with the infectious complications.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocyte differentiation involves adapting processes like mitochondria repopulation and cytoskeleton reorganization, but the proteomic differences between monolayer and spheroid cultured cells remain unclear.
  • Researchers grew alveolar mucosa multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells in spheroids, promoting proper extracellular matrix architecture and cell shape, leading to natural myogenic differentiation.
  • Using electron microscopy and proteomic analysis, they found that spheroid cells had smaller, rounder mitochondria and were enriched with proteins related to mitochondria biogenesis, respiratory function, and cytoskeleton, indicating distinct cellular behaviors in three-dimensional cultures.

The article presents the results of clinical economical analysis, based on "cost-effectiveness" technology, of MALDI-TOF MS, innovative medical technology of express identification of microorganisms, calculation of incremental indicator and application of notion "willingness-to-pay-threshold". Due to the extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation, this medical equipment for national laboratories becomes difficult to access and expensive, that conditions necessity to scientifically substantiate economical effectiveness of implementation of expensive innovative MALDI-TOF MS technology as instrument to contain global antibiotic resistance increase. The understanding of importance of express identification of microorganisms as well as other positive effects that can be achieved by using modern medical equipment on the basis of mass spectrometry results in improving medical care quality, increasing reputation level of medical institution, greater commitment of physicians and patients to microbiological analysis with purpose of prescription of rational antibiotic therapy and improving population health.

Background: High serum levels of certain aromatic microbial metabolites (AMM) are associated with severity and mortality in critically ill patients. Omics-based studies suggest gut dysbiosis and reduced microbiome diversity in critical conditions. However, the landscape of gut microbial metabolites is still to be outlined, not to mention the interplay correlation between the metabolome and gut microbiome in critically ill patients.

A well-known feature of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is possible ectopic localization of parathyroid adenoma that can significantly complicate diagnostic process. Ectopia in the aortic window is extremely rare and accounts only 1% of ectopic parathyroid adenomas in the mediastinum and 0.24% among all parathyroid adenomas.

Purpose: Patients with relapsed or refractory primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (rrPMBCL) have a poor prognosis, and their treatment represents an urgent and unmet need. Because PMBCL is associated with genetic aberrations at 9p24 and overexpression of programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) ligands (PD-L1), it is hypothesized to be susceptible to PD-1 blockade.

Methods: In the phase IB KEYNOTE-013 (ClinicalTrials.

The historical concentration of thrombocytes is an average of three subsequent concentrations of thrombocytes before donation (during two years) in blood of donors. The evaluation was applied to characteristics of historical concentration of thrombocytes concerning concentration of thrombocytes in blood of 99 regular donors before every donation of apheresis thrombocytes. It is established that less than 20% dispersion between historical concentration of thrombocytes and value obtained in day of donation is observed in 96% of regular donors.
