Background: Oral cancer (OC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) pose significant challenges to public health in Brazil. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of oral cancer (OC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) among patients who would be treated by Brazilian dentists during their careers.
Material And Methods: Data on the number of dentists in Brazil were extracted from the 2022 census data, while incidence rates for OC cases were sourced from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA).

Background: This study aimed to explore the clinical, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical characteristics of myofibromas (MFs) affecting the head and neck region.
Material And Methods: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of patients diagnosed with MFs in the head and neck were retrieved from the archives of three oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories. Data including clinical, radiographic, microscopic and immunohistochemical findings, treatment employed, and follow-up status were retrieved from the patient's medical records or pathology reports.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to determine whether the pentoxifylline and tocopherol (PENTO) protocol effectively reduce the risk of osteoradionecrosis (ORN) in patients undergoing tooth extraction after head and neck radiotherapy.
Methods: We searched PubMed, SCOPUS, LILACS, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases up to August 2022. We considered only studies that included patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer undergoing tooth extraction with PENTO prophylaxis after radiotherapy.

Curcumin has great potential as a photosensitizer, but it has low solubility in aqueous solutions. This study reports the antimicrobial efficacy of photodynamic inactivation (PDI) mediated by a curcumin-loaded liquid crystal precursor (LCP) on in situ dental biofilms. Thirty volunteers used intraoral devices containing enamel samples for 48 hours for biofilm formation.

Objectives: To investigate the physical-chemical properties of home bleaching gels based on Carbamide Peroxide (CP) and Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) after accelerated stability (AS) and its effects on enamel.
Materials And Methods: A total of 360 bovine teeth blocks were divided (n = 12): Control, CP10%-Whiteness Perfect, CP10%-Pola Night, HP7.5%-Pola Day, and HP7.
Introduction: The bidirectional relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease has been reported in the literature, suggesting that poor glycemic control is strongly associated with increased risk of developing periodontal disease. Therefore, this systematic review evaluated the level of knowledge of this bidirectional relationship among patients with diabetes.
Methods: This systematic review (protocol CRD42018117902) was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines.

Objectives: To determine the impact of treating caries-affected dentin (CAD) with: 0.2% sodium fluoride (NaF), casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP/MI Paste™) or peptide P-4 (Curodont™ Repair) on the longevity of resin/CAD interface at storage times of 24 -h, 6- and 18-month.
Methods: 255 caries-free third molars were used, and CAD was produced by a biological method.

Background: Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) is an alternative method to light microscopy (LM). However, few studies have compared the diagnostic agreement between WSI and LM, especially to grade oral epithelial dysplasia (OED). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variability in grading OED by the World Health Organization grading system, using WSI and conventional LM, and to investigate whether the access to clinical information, and psychologic or physical states of the pathologists could interfere with the diagnosis.

Statement Of Problem: Glass-ceramic materials are typically treated with hydrofluoric acid (HF) and silane to improve their bond to composite resin; however, HF may be harmful to human tissues and the integrity of the material, and its application is a technique-sensitive procedure. A novel self-etching ceramic primer has been introduced with the claim that it can solve those problems. However, independent scientific evidence regarding its performance is scarce.

Methods: South American Youth/Child cARdiovascular and Environmental study was a multicentre feasibility observational study and conducted in seven South American cities. The training sessions were performed in two steps before data collection: the first verified the inter-rater reproducibility between the examiners of the six centres in relation to the gold standard, and the second one verified the inter-rater reproducibility between the examiners at each centre in relation to the main rater.

In most mammalian species enamel prisms are regularly arranged in layers of alternating directions forming an angle of approximately 90°. These successive layers of prisms are known as Hunter-Schreger bands (HSBs). The analysis of HSBs may provide valuable information regarding the species life history, taxon and personal identification, with evident applicability in physical anthropology and forensics.

Background: The aims of this study were to verify if head and neck radiotherapy (RT) is able to induce calcified carotid artery atheroma (CCAA) in a large head and neck cancer (HNC) population and also to compare the socio-demographic and clinical findings of patients with and without CCAA detected on panoramic radiographs.
Material And Methods: Panoramic radiographs taken before and after head and neck radiotherapy (RT) of 180 HNC patients were selected and analyzed in order to identify the presence of CCAA. In addition, CCAA presence or absence on panoramic radiographs were compared and correlated with clinicopathological findings.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate surface roughness and changes in the composition of enamel submitted to different bleaching protocols and toothbrushing with regular and whitening toothpastes.
Background Data: Bleaching treatment could promote morphological and chemical changes in enamel surface.
Methods: Enamel blocks were randomized into nine groups (n=10) according to the bleaching treatment (no bleaching, control group; 6% hydrogen peroxide, HP; or 10% carbamide peroxide, CP) and toothpaste used (placebo, PL; regular, R; or whitening dentifrice, W).

Description Of The Technique: The microabrasion technique of enamel consists of selectively abrading the discolored areas or causing superficial structural changes in a selective way.
Objective: In microabrasion technique, abrasive products associated with acids are used, and the evaluation of enamel roughness after this treatment, as well as surface polishing, is necessary. This in-vitro study evaluated the enamel roughness after microabrasion, followed by different polishing techniques.

This study evaluated the effect of polymerization mode and time and thermal and mechanical loading cycling (TMC) on microleakage in composite resin restorations. One hundred and eighty cavities were prepared and randomly divided according to the light curing time (20, 40, or 60 s), modes (quartz-tungsten-halogen (QTH)-420 mW/cm(2), LED 2 (2nd degree generation)-1,100 mW/cm(2), or LED 3 (3rd degree generation)-700 mW/cm(2)), and TMC. Following standard restorative procedures, the samples were prepared for analysis in an absorbance spectrophotometer.
