Forensic Technicians provide crime scene investigation services and are exposed to stressful violent crimes, motor vehicle accidents, biological or chemical hazards, and other appalling imagery. Forensic Technicians would likely experience physical and psychological stress after exposure to trauma, and security vulnerabilities similar to Sworn Police Officers. The perceived availability of mental health resources, job-related physical, psychological stress, and traumatic experiences of both Forensic Technicians and Sworn Police Officers from California law enforcement agencies were investigated using a self-reported survey.

A multicellular host and its microbial communities are recognized as a metaorganism-a composite unit of evolution. Microbial communities have a variety of positive and negative effects on the host life history, ecology, and evolution. This study used high-throughput amplicon sequencing to characterize the complete skin and gut microbial communities, including both bacteria and fungi, of a terrestrial salamander, Plethodon glutinosus (Family Plethodontidae).

Identifying academic demands that occasion problem behaviors for students with behavioral disorders: illustrations at the elementary school level.

In two independent experiments, we (a) examined aspects of academic demands associated with the problem behaviors of two elementary students with behavioral disorders and (b) investigated the effects of academic interventions to decrease problem behaviors and increase task engagement. Preliminary functional behavior assessment data suggested each student participant's problem behaviors functioned to escape/avoid academic demands, and experimental structural analyses performed in naturalistic settings confirmed relations between their problem behaviors and specific features of academic tasks. Antecedent-based interventions were developed for each student and separate single-case alternating treatment experiments indicated functional relations between the academic interventions and appropriate task engagement.

The effect of neighborhood disadvantage, social ties, and genetic variation on the antisocial behavior of African American women: a multilevel analysis.

Social disorganization theory posits that individuals who live in disadvantaged neighborhoods are more likely to engage in antisocial behavior than are those who live in advantaged neighborhoods and that neighborhood disadvantage asserts this effect through its disruptive impact on social ties. Past research on this framework has been limited in two respects. First, most studies have concentrated on adolescent males.

Tutorial on monitoring time to next medication error: a response.

A previously published analysis of an interesting dataset consisting of time intervals between medication errors is replicated and some errors in the original analysis are discussed. The dataset is then analyzed using well-known methods from the field of statistical process control. The results and conclusions of the analysis are not consistent with those of the original analysis.

Spontaneous recovery of previously extinguished behavior as an alternative explanation for extinction-related side effects.

Extinction is accepted as a viable intervention for behaviors that are hypothesized to be maintained by contingent attentional reinforcement. However, it is frequently acknowledged that extinction has potential numerous side effects, including the generation of aggressive behavior. This explanation does not provide a behavioral conceptualization of such side effects.

Hyperthermia-induced cell lethality is thought to be mediated through injury to the cell membrane. Membrane perturbation results in the release of prostaglandins (PG) and leukotrienes (LT). These compounds are potent biological mediators and may modify the tumor microenvironment and therapeutic efficacy.
