High altitude (HA) exposure induces impairments in visual function. This study was designed to dynamically observe visual function after returning to lowland and elucidate the underlying mechanism by examining the structure and function of retina and visual pathway. Twenty-three subjects were recruited before (Test 1), and one week (Test 2) and three months (Test 3) after their return from HA (4300 m) where they resided for 30 days.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the impact of mind-body exercises on physical ability, mental health, and quality of life in stroke patients.
  • A systematic review of 33 randomized controlled trials involving 1,985 participants found that mind-body exercises significantly improved balance, upper and lower limb motor abilities, reduced depression, and enhanced quality of life, but did not significantly affect walking ability.
  • Mind-body exercises, particularly Qigong, can serve as a safe and effective supplementary therapy for stroke rehabilitation, helping accelerate recovery while being accessible to most individuals.

Unlabelled: Methamphetamine (MA) abuse is increasing worldwide, and evidence indicates that MA causes degraded cognitive functions such as executive function, attention, and flexibility. Recent studies have shown that regular physical exercise can ameliorate the disturbed functions. However, the potential functional network alterations resulting from physical exercise have not been extensively studied in female MA users.

Background: CNSLBP accounts for 85% of all LBP cases and impairs physical health, quality of life, and work productivity, posing a significant health and economic burden. Baduanjin (BDJ) exercises are traditional Chinese Qi Gong mind-body exercises that have been practiced for over 1,000 years. However, the standard BDJ protocol established by the State Sports General Administration does not stimulate core muscles, limiting the effectiveness of low back pain rehabilitation.

In order to understand the application of conjugated polymer nanocomposites as biosensors in the rehabilitation of ankle joint injuries in martial arts, the author proposes a study on the application of conjugated polymer nanocomposites in the rehabilitation of ankle joint injuries in martial arts. Firstly, in martial arts training, the incidence of ankle joint injuries is relatively high. In order to prevent and reduce ankle joint injuries, high-intensity martial arts training should be used to evaluate the degree of ankle joint injuries in a timely manner using an ankle joint injury assessment model.

Skeletal muscle ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common severe disease with a complex pathological process. This study found that copper chloride (CuCl) inhibited cell viability in a concentration dependent manner, increased intracellular copper levels and downregulated copper transporter 1 (CTR1) expression. CTR1 upregulation promoted copper uptake by myoblasts and then enhanced cuproptosis, leading to a significant increase in the levels of dihydrolipoamide S-acetyltransferase (DLAT) oligomers, while a significant decrease in the levels of lipoylated (Lip)-dihydrolipoamide S-succinyltransferase (DLST) and Lip-DLAT, ultimately inhibiting cell viability and inducing cell injury.

August 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Khalid University, P.O. Box 960, Abha, 61421, Saudi Arabia.

In remote areas, particularly in developing countries, there is a growing interest in off-grid solar PV systems for their ability to provide clean and affordable electricity. However, these systems often face limitations in powering essential amenities, including sports facilities, due to restricted capabilities and inadequate battery storage. To address these challenges and promote energy independence, this paper proposes an AI-enabled sports-system peer-to-peer (P2P) energy exchange network within the digital economy.

Objectives: Cervical spondylosis may lead to changes in the sagittal parameters of the neck and trigger compensatory alterations in systemic sagittal parameters. However, there is currently a dearth of comparative research on the changes and compensatory alterations to sagittal parameters resulting from different types of cervical spondylosis. This study compared the preoperative sagittal alignment sequences among patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR), ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), and cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) caused by factors resulting from non-OPLL factors.

The effect of post-traumatic chondropathy on the functional state of knee joints in athletes while playing basketball.

Epidemiol Rev

September 2024

Department of Innovation and Information Technologies in Physical Culture and Sports, National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sport, 1 Fizkultury Str., 03150 Kyiv, Ukraine.

The widespread occurrence of knee injuries in athletes when playing basketball, in particular, damage to the cartilage system of the knee joint is reviewed. Basketball players may develop post-traumatic chondropathy with a subsequent change in the functional state of knee joints, which is inextricably linked with a decrease in the quality of life, the occurrence of pain syndrome, shortening of career duration, an increased risk of surgical interventions, and possible disability, from a long-term perspective. This review was conducted to explore modern ideas about the impact of post-traumatic chondropathy on the functional state of knee joints in athletes during basketball games.
