Purpose: We designed and tested a point of care test panel to detect E.coli and antibiotic susceptibility in urine samples from patients at the point of care in the urological department. The aim of this approach is to facilitate choosing an appropriate antibiotic for urinary tract infections (UTI) at first presentation in the context of increasing antibiotic resistance in uropathogens worldwide.

Septins are a group of cytoskeletal GTP binding proteins which are involved in different cellular processes, like cell division, exocytosis and axon growth. Their function, especially in the nervous system, is not clear. In zebrafish 16 different septins are described and for some of them the expression in the brain is described.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an instruction-video, with and without additional hands-on instruction, in teaching young adults proper flossing performance.
Materials And Methods: This randomised intervention and observational study included 94 participants, 24 (23; 25) years, receiving an instruction-video with (group 1) or without additional hands-on instruction (group 2). The flossing performance was assessed by videotaping before instruction (T1), after instruction and one week of practice (T2), as well as after two weeks of practice (T3).

There is a scarcity of data on the long-term relationship between cancer and chronic low back pain (CLBP). Therefore, this retrospective cohort study investigated the association between cancer and the 10-year incidence of CLBP in Germany. Data collected in 1293 German general practices between 2005 and 2022 were used for the study.

Background: Although advancements in the management of thoracic aortic disease have led to a reduction in acute mortality, individuals requiring postoperative reintervention experience substantially worse long-term clinical outcomes and increased mortality. We aimed to identify the risk factors for postoperative reintervention in this high-risk population.
Patients And Methods: This prospective observational cohort study included patients who survived endovascular or open surgical treatment for thoracic aortic disease between January 2009 and June 2020.

Introduction: The treatment of acute ischemic stroke due to large artery vessel occlusion experienced a dramatic development within the last decade. This meta-analysis investigates the effectiveness of bridging therapy (BT) versus mechanical thrombectomy (MT) alone in treating acute ischemic stroke.
Methods: Two independent reviewers assessed two-arm clinical trials from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library up to January 2024.

Cryopyrin-associated periodic syndromes (CAPS) are orphan hereditary auto-inflammatory diseases with various phenotypes, including chronic kidney disease (CKD). Current therapies inhibit interleukin-1 (IL-1) to achieve clinical and serological remission; however, the effect on kidney involvement remains unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the long-term efficacy of anti-IL-1 treatment with special emphasis on renal outcome.

Telemedicine applications present virtually limitless prospects for innovating and enhancing established and new models of patient care in the field of Internal Medicine. Although there is a wide range of innovative technological solutions in Europe, there are overarching elements associated with such technologies when applied to the practices of Internal Medicine specialists. The European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM) strongly advocates for active leadership and influence from the Internal Medicine societies and specialist physicians across Europe in the development and application of telemedicine and digital technologies in healthcare.

Introduction: The study aimed to investigate whether an exercise-induced pro-inflammatory response alters the perception as well as visual exploration of emotional body language in social interactions.
Methods: In a within-subject design, 19 male, healthy adults aged between 19 and 33 years performed a downhill run for 45 min at 70% of their VO on a treadmill to induce maximal myokine blood elevations, leading to a pro-inflammatory status. Two control conditions were selected: a control run with no decline and a rest condition without physical exercise.

Introduction: Imagery rescripting (ImRs) is a psychotherapeutic intervention targeting aversive memories. During the three-phase intervention, patients reexperience their aversive memory (phase 1), observe the scene from their adult perspective, and intervene to help their former selves (phase 2), and reexperience it again with the positive changes (phase 3). Previous studies have rarely investigated emotional and regulatory processes taking place during the intervention.

Background And Objectives: In case of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) personnel of the emergency medical services (EMS) are regularly confronted with advanced directives (AD) and do-not-attempt-resuscitation (DNACPR) orders. The authors conducted a retrospective analysis of EMS operation protocols to examine the prevalence of DNACPR in case of OHCA and the influence of a presented DNACPR on CPR-duration, performed Advanced-Life-Support (ALS) measures and decision making.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective analysis of prehospital medical documentation of all resuscitation incidents in a German county with 250,000 inhabitants from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2022.

NF2-related schwannomatosis (NF2-SWN) is a rare genetic disorder and is associated with progressive morbidities. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between NF2-SWN disease severity, health-related Quality of Life (QoL), and mental health aspects of patients. Standardised questionnaires assessing mental health problems (symptoms of depression, anxiety, and somatic burden), psychological factors (resilience, loneliness, and personality functioning), and health-related QoL were administered to 97 patients with NF2-SWN.

Background: Several studies indicate that compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) shares core elements with substance use disorder (SUD). These findings support the assumption of common mechanisms in addiction, which may lead to a higher tendency in patients with SUD to have comorbid CSBD. Nevertheless, this relationship between CSBD and SUD is poorly understood to date.
