Qatar residents' satisfaction for using the Doha Metro Rail System: An analysis for sustainable transportation.

Acta Psychol (Amst)

March 2025

School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, Mapúa University. 658 Muralla St., Intramuros, Manila, 1002, Philippines. Electronic address:

Doha's public transportation system was entirely dependent on publicly run ground transportation services, including buses, taxis, and limousines before the Doha Metro Rail System - a sustainable transportation system, was implemented. This study integrated the Social Exchange Theory (SET) with the SERVQUAL 5 dimensions as a higher-ordered construct to assess how satisfied Qatar residents were with the Doha Metro Rail System after three years of service. To encourage commuters to use sustainable public transportation, it is imperative to design methods to assess public travel satisfaction concerning public transportation use as Qatar moves toward a sustainable public transportation system.

Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes have gained significant popularity as an alternative to traditional cigarettes, yet limited research has examined the factors influencing their adoption, particularly in developing nations like the Philippines, where usage is rising. This study investigates the behavioral drivers of e-cigarette use, with a particular focus on the role of knowledge, alongside social influence, perceived price impact, perceived health impact, and perceived usefulness. Using purposive sampling, 310 valid responses were collected from current e-cigarette users, traditional cigarette users, or individuals with prior experience with these products.

Microlevel structural poverty estimates for southern and eastern Africa.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

February 2025

Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853.

For many countries in the Global South traditional poverty estimates are available only infrequently and at coarse spatial resolutions, if at all. This limits decision-makers' and analysts' ability to target humanitarian and development interventions and makes it difficult to study relationships between poverty and other natural and human phenomena at finer spatial scales. Advances in Earth observation and machine learning-based methods have proven capable of generating more granular estimates of relative asset wealth indices.

Introduction: Patient adherence to regular controller medication is critical for improving clinical outcomes in asthma, which is consistently associated with underlying pathophysiological inflammation. This survey aimed to identify types of treatment nonadherence and associated factors, including patient characteristics that predict poor adherence, in patients with asthma.

Methods: This cross-sectional online survey involved patients with asthma and physicians managing such patients from Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates) included in the Asthma Patients' and Physicians' Perspectives on the Burden and Management of Asthma (APPaRENT) 3 study.

Electronic address:

Objectives: The clinical effectiveness of carbapenem and tigecycline, which are last-resort antimicrobials used to treat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, faces challenges due to emerging plasmid-borne resistance mechanisms, including the enzymatic inactivation of antimicrobials. Here, we investigate and report the co-occurrence of bla and tet(X7) genes in an Acinetobacter towneri isolate from hospital wastewater in the Philippines.

Methods: An A.

Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, Sunway Business School, Sunway University, 5 Jalan University, 47500 Sunway, Selangor, Malaysia. Electronic address:

Although healthcare waste management (HCWM) legislations prevail in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), there appears a prominent gap in standalone pharmaceutical waste management (PWM) legislation making harmonization of PWM challenging in the region. This review is aimed to comprehensively overview the PWM-related legislations in ASEAN, comprising of 10 economically rising countries in Southeast Asia. The relevant regulatory documents, that were promulgated till August 31, 2024 and that were in English or officially translated in English, were extracted from PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and respective country's government websites.

The paper presents the most comprehensive and large-scale global study to date on how higher education students perceived the use of ChatGPT in early 2024. With a sample of 23,218 students from 109 countries and territories, the study reveals that students primarily used ChatGPT for brainstorming, summarizing texts, and finding research articles, with a few using it for professional and creative writing. They found it useful for simplifying complex information and summarizing content, but less reliable for providing information and supporting classroom learning, though some considered its information clearer than that from peers and teachers.

Aquaculture diseases caused by pathogens such as Vibrio spp., amplified by the emergence of antibiotic resistance, threaten the aquaculture industry. Due to its critical role in regulating the expression of genes related to antibiotic resistance and virulence, quorum sensing (QS) was proved to be an ideal target in disease control.

This research examines the link between physical activity (PA) and adolescent psychological sub-health (PSH), emphasizing the intermediary roles of self-control (SC) and mobile phone addiction (MPA). Utilizing the Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS), SC Scale (SCS), MPA Tendency Scale (MPATS), and the Multidimensional Subhealth Questionnaire of Adolescents (MSQA), data were gathered from 1,052 adolescents. The findings indicate that (1) PA is negatively associated with both PSH and MPA, yet positively correlates with SC.

Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) stand out as a pressing challenge in public health and a critical aspect of drug discovery. The dilemma arises from the inherent impossibility of conducting a comprehensive evaluation of a drug before its market release, constrained by the limitations in scale and duration of clinical trials. Therefore, the post-marketing detection of ADRs in a timely and accurate manner becomes imperative.

Department of Marine Environmental Engineering, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung City 81157, Taiwan; Sustainable Environment Research Center, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung City 81157, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Metal pollution in harbors has long threatened coastal ecosystems. However, elucidating their bioaccumulation and diffusion impacts is challenging due to complex marine communities-with zooplankton as an indicator. Metals in seawater, suspended particulate matter, and isolated zooplankton groups were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Hidden hunger, characterized by micronutrient deficiencies despite adequate caloric intake, affects over 2 billion people globally, primarily due to deficits in iron, vitamin A, and iodine. This phenomenon underscores a critical paradox in global food security: the Green Revolution, which significantly increased crop production through high-yielding varieties (HYVs) of staple crops, has simultaneously contributed to widespread nutritional deficiencies. This article examines the dual legacy of the Green Revolution, exploring how its emphasis on yield over nutritional quality has led to decreased concentrations of essential micronutrients in staple crops, exacerbating hidden hunger.
