Objective: Burns to the hand are a common injury in paediatrics and can be traumatic to children, both physically and psychologically. Timely conservative or operative management is critical to maximise healing and minimise long-term complications in these young patients. Here, we present the cases of patients treated with a novel skin substitute formed into a prefabricated glove.

Background: Lung cancer brain metastases (LC-BrMs) are frequently associated with dismal mortality rates in patients with lung cancer; however, standard of care therapies for LC-BrMs are still limited in their efficacy. A deep understanding of molecular mechanisms and tumor microenvironment of LC-BrMs will provide us with new insights into developing novel therapeutics for treating patients with LC-BrMs.
Methods: Here, we performed integrated analyses of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and single-cell RNA sequencing data which were derived from a total number of 154 patients with paired and unpaired primary lung cancer and LC-BrM, spanning four published and two newly generated patient cohorts on both bulk and single cell levels.

Objectives: To examine older adults' cannabidiol (CBD) use and its associations with cannabis use and physical/mental health and other substance use problems.
Methods: Using the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health ( = 10,516 respondents age 50+), we fitted generalized linear models (GLM) with Poisson and log link using CBD as the dependent variable in the 50-64 and the 65+ age groups.
Results: In the 50-64 age group, 18.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, a medical institution in the United States implemented a virtual clerkship rotation to replicate the skills that students would develop during an in-person clinical site rotation. The primary objective of this study was to identify the efficacy and benefits following the implementation of the Virtual Hospital Experiential Learning (VHEL) model, as demonstrated by increased perceived confidence and skill growth among medical students.
Methods: Cases were presented to five to six medical students each week.

Darier's disease is characterized by pruritic keratotic papules resulting from dysfunctional keratinocyte adhesion. Segmental Darier's is a rare variant thought to be caused by a post-zygotic somatic mutation. The mainstay of treatment consists of oral and topical retinoids and corticosteroids.

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO), an autoimmune disease, typically presents with loss of vision and myelopathic signs. NMO may be associated with antibodies selective for aquaporin-4 (AQP4), a water channel located within the optic nerves and spinal cord.AQP4 is distributed in the periventricular region, corpus callosum, magnocellular nuclei of the hypothalamus, and brain stem.

A non-communicating rudimentary uterine horn is a Müllerian abnormality that manifests due to abnormal Müllerian duct development. This abnormality is associated with endometriosis, infertility, and pregnancy complications, including ectopic pregnancy, abnormal fetal presentation, abruption, increased fetal mortality and morbidity, preterm rupture of membranes, preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, and uterine rupture. If pregnancy does occur, there is a high risk of complications, most notably rupture of the rudimentary horn.

Pubic symphysis diastasis (PSD) is the widening of the pubic symphysis which can occur during the peripartum period. PSD commonly presents as pelvic pain with associated neuropathies rarely reported. In this report we describe the unique presentation of PSD with associated motor and sensory deficits in a 19-year-old postpartum patient.

Background: Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the spine is a rare sequela of chronic sickle cell disease (SCD) in which the shape of the sickled red blood cells interfere with the normal vascular supply of vertebral bodies. In this report, the authors describe a case of progressive spinal AVN treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and kyphoplasty for the patient's persistent lower back pain.
Observations: A 38-year-old male with long-standing spinal AVN due to SCD had been managed conservatively with hydroxyurea and oral opioid analgesics for several years until breakthrough episodes of low-back pain began to occur with an inability to perform activities of daily life.

This case discusses a 55-year-old patient who was evaluated at a dermatology outpatient clinic for a chronic, pruritic, and painful hyperkeratotic plaque located on her scalp vertex. Given the size of the plaque and its thick, yellow scales, an initial clinical diagnosis of seborrheic dermatitis was favored. However, after weeks of unsuccessful treatment with ketoconazole shampoo, topical fluocinolone 0.

Introduction: Cervical nerve palsies, most commonly C5, are relatively common following posterior cervical decompression and fusion (PCDF) for the management of cervical myelopathy. However, phrenic nerve palsy following PCDF is a rare complication documented in only one previous case report. The authors present a case of phrenic nerve palsy following PCDF.

Purpose: Healthcare providers often hesitate to discuss medical cannabis (MC) due to limited understanding, risks and benefits, and misinformation. This reluctance is notable with older adult patients, despite MC's potential benefits. This study investigates whether primary care providers (PCPs) routinely inquire about MC when treating older adults and the frequency of such inquiries.

Introduction Patients are increasingly relying on the internet for information about their medical diagnoses, but there is little regulation on the content of these websites. The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of the informational content available on the internet regarding DeQuervain's tenosynovitis. Methods The search phrasing "'DeQuervain' OR 'DeQuervain's' OR 'Radial styloid tenosynovitis' OR 'DeQuervain's synovitis' OR 'Wrist tendonitis'" was entered into the five most commonly used search engines, and the first 50 universal resource locators (URLs) were recorded, including sponsored sites.

Cancer cells are intimately intertwined with tumor microenvironment (TME), fostering a symbiotic relationship propelling cancer progression. However, the interaction between cancer cells and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in urothelial bladder cancer (UBC) remains poorly understood. UBC cell lines (5637, T24 and SW780), along with a monocytic cell line (U937) capable of differentiating into macrophage, were used in a co-culture system for cell proliferation and stemness by MTT, sphere formation assays.

Introduction: Management of penetrating thoracoabdominal (PTA) injuries with signs of hemorrhage have warranted operative intervention but improved imaging capabilities have redefined interventions required. We examined outcomes of hemodynamically stable patients undergoing preoperative CT imaging with the hypothesis that CT imaging would decrease OR time without delaying OR arrival.
Methods: A retrospective multicenter study was performed amongst four urban trauma centers examining hemodynamically stable patients with PTA injuries requiring operative intervention from January 2017-December 2021.

The pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) involves complex mechanisms, including immune dysregulation, gut microbiota imbalances, oxidative stress, and defects in the gastrointestinal mucosal barrier. Current treatments for IBD often have significant limitations and adverse side effects, prompting a search for alternative therapeutic strategies. Natural products with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties have demonstrated potential for IBD management.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVA (MPS IVA) is an autosomal congenital metabolic lysosomal disease caused by a deficiency of the -acetyl-galactosamine-6-sulfate sulfatase (GALNS) gene, leading to severe skeletal dysplasia. The available therapeutics for patients with MPS IVA, enzyme replacement therapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, revealed limitations in the impact of skeletal lesions. Our previous study, a significant leap forward in MPS IVA research, showed that liver-targeted adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene transfer of human GALNS (hGALNS) restored GALNS enzymatic activity in blood and multiple tissues and partially improved the aberrant accumulation of storage materials.
