Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are typically associated with mild respiratory illnesses, although severe disease and outbreaks in congregate settings occur. The National Adenovirus Type Reporting System (NATRS) is a passive, laboratory-based surveillance system that monitors trends in circulation of HAdV types in the United States. This report summarizes the distribution of HAdV types reported to NATRS during 2017-2023.

Background: Children infected with human adenovirus (HAdV) were at particularly high risk of developing severe disease, but the risk factors of severe conditions are poorly understood.
Objectives: To explore the risk factors for developing into severe conditions in pediatric patients with HAdV infection by analyzing baseline epidemiological data, clinical characteristics, and computed tomography (CT) imaging features.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 267 children with HAdV infection were included between October 2016 and September 2021 at Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China.

Unlabelled: Though usually self-limiting, viral respiratory infections can escalate to severe cases requiring admission to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). This study aims to examine the proportional incidence, affected age ranges, viral pathogens involved, associated severity measures, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their incidence and virus distribution. This retrospective cohort study conducted in a tertiary care center (2011-2021) reviewed all pediatric patients admitted to PICU with laboratory-confirmed viral respiratory infection.

Respiratory tract infection (RTI) is the most important cause of visiting both public and private medical care services. During the decade preceding Covid-19, in developing countries, there was a gap in the epidemiology of respiratory viral infections, probably due to the difficulty of detecting viral agents in clinical microbiology laboratories routine, at that time. In this context, the aim of this study was to describe the occurrence of virus, demographic factors associated and the likelihood of coinfections detection by multiplex PCR methods.

Adenovirus (AdV) infection has been rarely documented in cats and other felids. Partial sequences of the hexon and fiber genes of a Hungarian feline adenovirus isolate (FeAdV isolate) showed a close relationship to human AdV (HAdV) type C1. Further molecular and biological characterization is reported here.

Introduction With the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple studies described a significant drop in common respiratory viruses in children with the lockdown and restrictions. With the lifting of pandemic precautions, we had the ability to observe new patterns of respiratory illnesses in children and emergency department visits. Materials and methods We studied all respiratory nucleic acid amplification test results in emergency patients from a large metropolitan children's hospital from the years 2018 to 2023.

In dentistry, disinfection with antimicrobials is employed under different conditions and at different time points. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of disinfectant dental sprays was proposed, among other measures, to help prevent the transmission of infections during dental procedures that require highly effective antiseptics at particularly short contact times. The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of electrolyzed saline (EOS) compared with other antiseptics in terms of the spread of enveloped and nonenveloped viruses by ultrasonic scaler (USS)-generated dental spray.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater-based surveillance (WBS) showed great potential as an early warning system and could complement human clinical surveillance. This study aimed to highlight the added value of WBS for respiratory infections alongside different clinical surveillance systems. Sewage collected at the entry of four Wastewater Treatment Plants in Northern Tuscany (Italy) were analyzed for SARS-CoV-2, Human Adenovirus (HAdV), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Influenza Virus (IV), over two years.

Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are highly contagious and have significant clinical implications in the pediatric population. In the present study, we employed a combination of long-read sequencing and short-read sequencing to accurately reconstruct 32 genomes of HAdVs. The phylogenetic analyses based on the whole genome and genes revealed distinct sub-clusters within HAdV-B and -E.

Adenoviruses are important human pathogens that are widespread and mainly associated with respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. In a previous study on human adenovirus (HAdV) seroprevalence, we observed reduced binding antibody levels against a range of HAdV types in sera collected from students in 2021 compared to sera collected before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In this follow-up study, we wanted to verify this observation in a cohort of regular blood donors for whom serial samples were available.

Respiratory viruses are among the most common causes of human infections. Examining pathological processes linked to respiratory viral infections is essential for diagnosis, treatment strategies, and developing novel therapeutics. Alterations in oxidative stress levels and homeostasis are significant processes associated with respiratory viral infections.

DNA samples selected for long read sequencing (LRS) are routinely required to be 'pure' with high DNA concentration. Hence the usefulness of samples with substandard DNA quality for LRS is unknown. We aim to perform de-novo assembly of Adenovirus sequenced from non-human primate (NHP) faeces using the Oxford Nanopore technologies (ONT), an LRS platform.

By coupling long-range polymerase chain reaction, wastewater-based epidemiology, and pathogen sequencing, we show that adenovirus type 41 hexon-sequence lineages, described in children with hepatitis of unknown origin in the United States in 2021, were already circulating within the country in 2019. We also observed other lineages in the wastewater, whose complete genomes have yet to be documented from clinical samples.

Multiple respiratory viruses lead to high morbidity and mortality, yet global surveillance platforms focus primarily on seasonal influenza viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic and new RSV vaccines highlight the importance of a broader approach. Upper respiratory tract swabs from children aged 24-59 months presenting with influenza-like illness in The Gambia were collected during follow-up of a live-attenuated influenza vaccine randomised controlled trial in 2017-18.
