Due to the high cost of raw materials, this work aims to benefit from metal waste, especially iron (Fe) and silicon bronze, which results from turning workshops and recycling them to obtain nanocomposites for industrial applications. In this respect, Fe/SiBr/SiN/silica fume nanocomposites possessing superior mechanical, wear, and magnetic characteristics have been produced using powder metallurgy (PM) technology. Milled sample particle size, crystal size, and phase composition were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Novel GSIP: GAN-based sperm-inspired pixel imputation for robust energy image reconstruction.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computers and Informatics, Kafrelsheikh University, Kafrelsheikh, Egypt.

Missing pixel imputation is a critical task in image processing, where the presence of high percentages of missing pixels can significantly degrade the performance of downstream tasks such as image segmentation and object detection. This paper introduces a novel approach for missing pixel imputation based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). We propose a new GAN architecture incorporating an identity module and a sperm motility-inspired heuristic during filtration to optimize the selection of pixels used in reconstructing missing data.

  • Rutin was investigated as a potential inhibitor against SARS-CoV-2, showing strong binding and efficacy against the virus's RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) protein.
  • Structural similarity studies revealed that Rutin closely resembles Remdesivir, and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed that the RdRp-Rutin complex is more stable than the RdRp-Remdesivir complex.
  • In vitro testing demonstrated that Rutin has a significantly lower inhibitory concentration (IC50) for RdRp compared to Remdesivir, indicating its superior effectiveness and a high safety margin.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Petrochemical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Pharos University, Alexandria, Egypt. Electronic address:

Textile materials are extensively used due to their advantageous properties; however, their inherent flammability presents significant safety risks, particularly in residential and historical settings. To mitigate these risks, the integration of flame-retardant agents into textile fabrics is essential for enhancing fire resistance and advancing sustainable development. In this study, cotton-polyester fabrics were treated with a flame-retardant composite containing nano graphene oxide (NGO), sodium hypophosphite dihydrate (SHFDH), and lignin (L).

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, Kasr El-Aini Street, Cairo P.O. Box 11562, Egypt. Electronic address:

This study investigates a series of newly synthesized compounds, including pyridopyrimidine derivatives (9a-g), tricyclic pyridotriazolopyrimidine analogs (18a-d), and dihydropyrimidinones (22a-i), as apoptotic inducers and inhibitors of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase α (PI3Kα), with potential anticancer activity. An initial in vitro screening of 60 cancer cell lines identified pyridopyrimidine derivatives 9a-g as promising broad-spectrum anticancer agents, with compound 9e demonstrating the strongest inhibitory activity, particularly against T-47D breast cancer cells. Notably, the antitumor potency of compound 9e surpassed that of Pictilisib, inducing G2-M phase cell cycle arrest and initiating apoptosis through the intrinsic apoptotic pathway.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder of complex pathogenesis and multiple interacting signaling pathways where amyloidal-β protein (Aβ) clearance plays a crucial role in cognitive decline. Herein, the current study investigated the possible modulatory effects of memantine/ rosuvastatin therapy on TGF-β1/p-Smad/p21 signaling pathway and their correlation to the blood brain barrier transporters involved in Aβ-clearance and microRNAs as a novel molecular mechanism in AD treatment. AD was induced by a single intracerebroventricular streptozotocin injection (ICV-STZ, 3 mg/kg) in rats and drug therapy was continued for 28 days after AD induction.

Design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel benzofuran and pyrazole-based derivatives as dual AChE/BuChE inhibitors with antioxidant properties for Alzheimer's disease management.

Eur J Med Chem

February 2025

Applied Organic Chemistry Department, National Research Center, Dokki, Cairo, 12622, Egypt; Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Pharos University in Alexandria, Canal El Mahmoudia St., Alexandria, 21648, Egypt. Electronic address:

As a complicated neurodegenerative disorder with several clinical hallmarks, Alzheimer's disease (AD) requires multi-target treatment medicines to address multiple elements of disease progression. In this study, we reported two novel series of compounds: benzofuran-based donepezil analogs (9a-i) and their pyrazole-based counterparts (11a-i) as potential dual inhibitors of AChE and BuChE with additional antioxidant properties, aiming to address multiple pathological aspects of AD simultaneously. The design strategy employed bioisosteric replacement, substituting donepezil's indanone motif with a benzofuran ring in series (9a-i) to maintain crucial hydrogen bonding interactions with the Phe295 residue in the enzyme's active site.
