Background: Magnetic resonance imaging may suggest spinal cord compression and structural lesions in degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) but cannot reveal functional impairments in spinal pathways. For patients with chest discomfort, noninvasive cardiac testing can be used for the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome and for the evaluation of the risk of future cardiovascular events and disease severity in patients with known coronary artery disease. Clinical prediction rules can guide risk assessment for patients with acute or stable chest discomfort. For acute chest discomfort, patients with low risk do not need urgent testing, and those at high risk should have invasive coronary angiography.

PsO can present in various forms, including guttate (small, round lesions commonly over the upper trunk and extremities that can be raised and scaly), inverse (smooth plaques of inflamed skin within skin folds of the groin, buttock, and breasts), pustular (white painful pustules within red inflamed blotches widespread over the body), and erythrodermic (red rash present over most of the body). With the advent of human neuroimaging, researchers were drawn to the idea that by better understanding the human brain, more effective mental health interventions could be developed. It has been more than 20 years since the first functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies were conducted to examine changes in brain activation with anxiety-related treatments and more than 60 studies have since been published in this vein. For the current review, we conduct a systematic review of this literature, focusing on adult studies using task-based fMRI to measure brain activation changes with pharmacologic or psychotherapy interventions for phobia, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
