Department of Bioinformatics, TRANSCEND Research Center, Regional Institute of Oncology, 2-4 General Henri Mathias Berthelot, Street, Iaşi 700483, Romania.

Liposomes, small bilayer phospholipid-containing vesicles, are frequently used to ensure slow drug release for a prolonged and improved therapeutic effect. Nevertheless, current findings on the membrane affinity and permeability of the anticancer agent 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) are confounding, which leads to a lack of a clear understanding of how lipid composition impacts the distribution of 5-FU within liposomal structures and its delivery. In the current work, we report a comprehensive coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CGMD) investigation on the influence of cholesterol (CHOL) and the cationic lipid 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane (DOTAP) on the partitioning of 5-FU in 1,2-dipalmitoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) double-bilayer systems, as well as its in vitro release from liposomes with identical lipid compositions.

Nanotechnology Laboratory, TRANSCEND Research Center, Regional Institute of Oncology, 2-4 General Henri Mathias Berthelot Street, 700483 Iaşi, Romania.

Investigating the interaction between liposomes and proteins is of paramount importance in the development of liposomal formulations with real potential for bench-to-bedside transfer. Upon entering the body, proteins are immediately adsorbed on the liposomal surface, changing the nanovehicles' biological identity, which has a significant impact on their biodistribution and pharmacokinetics and ultimately on their therapeutic effect. Albumin is the most abundant plasma protein and thus usually adsorbs immediately on the liposomal surface.

Herein we report the synthesis of a ferroelectric composed of chitosan (C)/barium titanate (BT) nanoparticles (NPs) with enhanced biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and piezoelectric behavior that can be advantageously used in biomedical applications. FTIR and SEM measurements were performed to assess the mechanism of interaction between the C matrix and BT NPs and their correlation with the biological responses. The dielectric measurements of the as-prepared composites reveal that incorporation of 50% BT NPs in the chitosan matrix leads to a steady increase of the dielectric constant as compared with neat chitosan films.

6-Iodo-substituted carboxy-quinolines were obtained using a one-pot, three-component method with trifluoroacetic acid as a catalyst under acidic conditions. Iodo-aniline, pyruvic acid and 22 phenyl-substituted aldehydes (we varied the type and number of radicals) or O-heterocycles, resulting in different electronic effects, were the starting components. This approach offers advantages such as rapid response times, cost-effective catalysts, high product yields and efficient purification procedures.

In this study, the quaternized carboxymethyl chitosan (QCMCS), oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA), 3,3'-dithiobis-(propionohydrazide) (DTP) were used as raw materials for the synthesis of hydrogels with excellent properties as carriers for drug release. The hydrogels were prepared by a simple "one-pot" method without external stimuli on the basis of interactions between formed dynamic covalent bonds (imine bonds, acylhydrazone bonds, disulfide bonds) and hydrogen bonds. The hydrogels had rapid self-healing properties, with a self-healing rate of 96 % after 30 min, as well as good pH responsiveness and excellent cytocompatibility (up to 98 % cell survival).

Fuel cells are electrochemical, ecologically friendly appliances that transform chemical energy into electricity in a clean, simple, and effective manner. With the advancement of technology in the field of computer science, electronic downsizing, and the ongoing need for mobility, the demand for portable energy sources such as fuel cells has considerably increased. The proton exchange membrane, which is designed to be a good conductor for protons while isolating electrons to move from the anode to the cathode, imprinting them an external circuit, and thus creating electricity, is at the heart of such an energy source.
