The subareolar Sappey's plexus was studied using color lymphography and immunohistochemical methods with a panel of antibodies to podoplanin, smooth muscle actin, low molecular weight cytokeratin AE1/AE3, and GATA3 on archival material obtained during radical mastectomies and sectoral resections with lymph node dissection from 86 patients diagnosed with non-special type breast cancer. At the macro- and microscopic levels, the connection between the subareolar lymphatic plexus and the lymphatic system of the breast parenchyma has been demonstrated. In triple negative breast cancer with metastases to the axillary lymph nodes, the involvement of subareolar lymphatic plexus into lymphogenous metastasis to the lymph nodes of the axillary lymphatic collector was shown.

Association was assessed between the data harvested by a long-baseline laser interference deformograph and the dynamics of body temperature (BT) in hamsters deprived of natural daily light-darkness changes. The power spectral data revealed the positive correlation between simultaneous time series of hamster BT and the Earth's crust deformation (ECD). The superposed epoch analysis established an association between abrupt upstrokes of hamster BT and ECD increments.

Morphological, molecular, and biological features of the systemic inflammatory response induced by LPS administration were assessed in adult and old male Wistar rats with high and low resistance to hypoxia. In 6 h after LPS administration, mRNA expression levels of Hif1a, Vegf, Nfkb, and level of IL-1β protein in old rats were higher than in adult rats regardless of hypoxia tolerance. The morphometric study showed that the number of neutrophils in the interalveolar septa of the lungs was significantly higher in low-resistant adult and old rats 6 h after LPS administration.

We studied spontaneous and ex vivo activated cytokine production by blood cells of male Wistar rats with different resistance to hypoxia against the background of an LPS-induced systemic inflammatory response. In rats with low (LR) and high resistance (HR) to hypoxia, the number of leukocytes, granulocytes, and peripheral blood lymphocytes was determined, the levels of spontaneous and stimulated production of IL-1β and IL-10 and their ratio were assessed ex vivo. Against the background of a systemic inflammatory response, only HR animals showed a decrease in spontaneous and stimulated production of IL-1β and spontaneous production of IL-10.

In modeling post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), old Wistar rats exhibit the same general signs of a PTSD-like condition as young rats do. The ratio of testosterone to corticosterone levels was assessed as a new index and proved to provide a guideline for dividing the rat population into low- and high-anxiety groups when modeling PTSD. Several features were observed in behavior, psycho-emotional manifestations, hormone levels, and myocardial state in old rats.

In a long-term (8 months) study, we examined the degree of synchronization of ultradian body temperature oscillations of two isolated groups of mice kept under constant dim illumination. In most cases, the periods of increased activity accompanied by rapid elevation of body temperature coincided in these groups of mice, but in some days, no significant synchronization between the examined parameters was observed. Analysis of the effects of environmental factors on the degree of synchronization of ultradian rhythms in mice revealed association of this parameter with the dynamics of atmospheric pressure (AtmP) and to a lesser extent with the vertical component of interplanetary magnetic field Bz.

Postoperative complications in cardiovascular surgery remain an important unresolved problem, in particular in patients with aortic aneurysm. The role of the altered microbiota in such patients is of great interest. The aim of this pilot study was to determine whether the development of postoperative complications in patients with aortic aneurysm is related with initial or acquired disorders of microbiota metabolism by monitoring the level of some aromatic microbial metabolites (AMMs) circulating in the blood before the surgery and in the early postoperative period.
