Beyond the Glycaemic Control of Dapagliflozin: Microangiopathy and Non-classical Complications.

Dapagliflozin is a selective sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (EF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). In monotherapy or as an additive therapy, dapagliflozin aids glycaemic control, is associated with reductions in blood pressure and weight, and promotes a favourable lipid profile. In this review, we address the impact of dapagliflozin on cardiovascular risk factors and common microangiopathic complications such as kidney disease and retinopathy in patients with T2DM.

Effectiveness of rituximab vs. ocrelizumab for the treatment of primary progressive multiple sclerosis: a real-world observational study.

Introduction: Ocrelizumab, an antiCD-20 antibody, is the only drug approved to treat patients with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (pwPPMS). Not all candidates receive this treatment due to prescription limitations. Rituximab, another antiCD-20 antibody, has been used off-label in pwPPMS before and after ocrelizumab approval.

Impact of BMGIM Music Therapy on Emotional State in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have a high prevalence of emotional disturbances which worsen the symptoms of the disease. As a therapeutic alternative that is part of a comprehensive care alongside medication, the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM) music-assisted therapy has achieved promising emotional improvements in patients with chronic diseases. The objective of the study was to determine the impact of a treatment based on a BMGIM group adaptation on patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their emotional state, therefore analyzing state of mind, quality of life, anxiety, depression, immunocompetence as a marker of well-being, and levels of acute and chronic stress.

Inflammatory bowel disease in patients over the age of 70 y. Does the disease duration influence its behavior?

Introduction: The fastest growing segment of our population is that of people above 70 years of age. Elderly patients with IBD exhibit several specific problems. Our objective was to evaluate the clinical course, the side effects of the treatments and the need for surgery of elderly patients, regardless of the age of onset.

Population pharmacokinetics of lenalidomide in multiple myeloma patients.

Purpose: Lenalidomide disease-specific toxicity profiles and potentially life-threatening adverse events support the consideration of diversity in starting doses. The aim of this study was to conduct a population pharmacokinetic analysis of lenalidomide in multiple myeloma patients to identify and evaluate non-studied covariates that could be used for dose individualization.

Methods: Blood samples were collected from 15 multiple myeloma patients.

A wide linearity range analytical method for the determination of lenalidomide in patients with multiple myeloma for pharmacokinetic studies is required. Plasma samples were ultrasonicated for protein precipitation. A solid-phase extraction was performed.

Oral and dental health of non-institutionalized elderly people in Spain.

With aging of the populations, the oral health and hygiene of elderly people has become an important public health issue. In this cross-sectional study we investigated the prevalence of tooth decay and other periodontal diseases in a representative cohort of 480 non-institutionalized adults ≥65 years from the province of Valencia, Spain. Using a World Health Organization standard for an adult oral survey methodology, we obtained data on remnant teeth with the decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index, a Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPTIN), attachment loss, and temporo-mandibular articulation (TMA) status.
