Objective: Assess the association between having witnessed physical violence between parents and intimate partner violence (IPV) against men in Bolivian adults according to the Encuesta de Demografia y Salud (EDSA) 2016.

Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using data from the EDSA 2016 in Bolivia. The variable of interest in this study was IPV in men experienced during the last 12 months (any type of violence, physical and/or sexual, and psychological).

Background: Polymicrobial pneumonia is a concern for clinicians due to its association with increased disease severity. Here we describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes of adult hospitalized patients with CAP, and identify the risk factors related to polymicrobial pneumonia and specifically to 30-day mortality.

Background: Plant breeding research heavily relies on wild species, which harbor valuable traits for modern agriculture. This work employed a new introgression population derived from Solanum pennellii (LA5240), a wild tomato native to Peru, composed of 1,900 genotyped backcross inbred lines (BILs_BC2S6) in the tomato inbreds LEA and TOP cultivated genetic backgrounds. This Peruvian accession was found resistant to the most threatening disease of tomatoes today, caused by the tobamovirus tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV).

Objectives: Despite the increasing investments in Latin American healthcare, the corresponding improvement in population health is not proportional. This discrepancy may be attributed to the efficiency of resource utilization. This study used the data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology to assess the efficiency of healthcare systems in 23 Latin American and Caribbean countries.

Superficial basal cell carcinoma masquerading as pruritic dermatitis on the upper eyelid.

Although basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, the superficial subtype is rarely seen on the upper eyelid. We report the case of a 71-year-old woman with a 4-year history of upper eyelid pruritus, initially diagnosed as blepharitis and unsuccessfully treated with various medications, including topical and systemic corticosteroids, topical immunomodulators, and antihistamines. The unusual presentation, location, histologic subtype, and persistent pruritus posed a significant diagnostic challenge in this case.

Purpose Of Review: To highlight recent findings on the prevalence and risk and protective factors for dementia in Indigenous Peoples, who are disproportionately affected by health inequities driven by social determinants of health and historical injustices. With increasing numbers of Indigenous individuals entering older age, there is a growing need for research to better understand dementia and opportunities for prevention in Indigenous Peoples.

Introduction: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has a prevalence of 12%-24% in the Hispanic population. Previous research has demonstrated that disparities in healthcare access significantly influence patient outcomes. We aimed to compare the clinicopathological characteristics and outcomes of Hispanic females with TNBC living in Latin America (HPLA) to the Hispanic population in the United States (HPUS).

There are scarce data on rickettsial ecology in rural areas of the Peruvian Amazon basin, where seroprevalence has not been determined, and the identities of animals acting as reservoirs of these bacteria are not known. We conducted a cross-sectional study in Zungarococha (between 2019 and 2021), a rural community located approximately 20 km away from Iquitos city.

This study evaluated how healthy lifestyle motivators (MHLs) influence the Peruvian market's willingness to consume healthy food (WCHBF). The main objective was to analyze the relationship of variables, such as attitude (ATT), perceived behavioral control (PBC), self-identity (SI), and moral norms (MN) with the WCHBF. This study adopted a quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach, using a self-administered questionnaire for data collection.

Molecular Signatures of Aeroallergen Sensitization in Respiratory Allergy: A Comparative Study Across Climate-Matched Populations.

Climate change is significantly altering the dynamics of airborne allergens, affecting their seasonality, allergenicity, and geographic distribution, which correlates with increasing rates of allergic diseases. This study investigates aeroallergen sensitization among populations from Tenerife, Spain, and Lima, Peru-two regions with similar climates but distinct socio-economic conditions. Our findings reveal that Spanish individuals, particularly those with asthma, demonstrate higher sensitization levels to a broader range of allergens, especially mites, with 85% of participants reacting to at least one mite allergen.

Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia associated with a normal pregnancy with no evidence of uterine primary lesion.

Gestational trophoblastic tumours are neoplasms that derive from trophoblastic tissue; therefore, their occurrence is generally intrauterine. We report the case of a 27-year-old woman with an ovarian tumour that arose during pregnancy. The patient did not have postpartum checkups and came to the clinic after eighteen months, presenting multiple lymphadenopathy predominantly in the cervical region, one of which was biopsied.
