Exploring the Potential of R0052 and R0175 as Promising Psychobiotics Using SHIME.

Psychobiotics are probiotics that have the characteristics of modulating central nervous system (CNS) functions or reconciled actions by the gut-brain axis (GBA) through neural, humoral and metabolic pathways to improve gastrointestinal activity as well as anxiolytic and even antidepressant abilities. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of R0052 and R0175 on the gut microbiota of mildly anxious adults using SHIME. The protocol included a one-week control period and two weeks of treatment with R0052 and R0175.

Physical Activity Guidelines for the Brazilian Population: Development and Methods.

Background: This article describes the process and methods used in the development of the first ever Physical Activity Guidelines for the Brazilian Population.

Methods: The steering committee established 8 working groups based on other guidelines and the Brazilian agenda for public health and physical activity (PA) promotion: (1) understanding PA; (2) children up to 5 years; (3) children and youth (6-17 y); (4) adults; (5) older adults (60 years and above); (6) physical education at school; (7) pregnant and postpartum women; and (8) people with disabilities. Working groups were formed to (1) synthesize the literature on each topic; (2) conduct workshops with stakeholders, health professionals, researchers, and the public; and (3) prepare a draft chapter for open online consultation.

Methods: A steering committee composed of a chair, 6 experts in physical activity, and representatives from the Ministry of Health/Brazil, Pan American Health Organization, Brazilian Society of Physical Activity and Health designed the guidelines, which was implemented by 8 working groups, as follows: (1) understanding physical activity, (2) children up to 5 years old, (3) children and youth from 6 to 17 years old, (4) adults, (5) older adults (60 years and above), (6) physical education at school, (7) pregnant and postpartum women, and (8) people with disabilities. The methodological steps included evidence syntheses, hearings with key stakeholders, and public consultation.

Effect of Fatigue and Graded Running on Kinematics and Kinetics Parameters in Triathletes.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cycling-induced fatigue on subsequent running with different ground inclinations on triathletes. Twenty male triathletes ran on a treadmill at individual speeds, on three inclines: level (0%), 7% uphill (7%), and 7% downhill (-7%). Subsequently, the athletes performed an incremental ramp-to-exhaustion (RTE) protocol on an ergometric bicycle until task failure and repeated the running protocol (POST-RTE).

Integrated approach to outpatient dental treatment of a patient with cerebral palsy: a case report.

The large number of oral manifestations associated with motor disorders in patients with cerebral palsy (CP) makes the dentist an indispensable member of the multidisciplinary team caring for this population. This case report presents an 11-year-old girl with spastic CP who had severe motor impairment, and a description of her care illustrates the importance of integrated care for patients with CP who are receiving outpatient dental treatment. It was determined that the use of adaptations based on knowledge of CP supported the outpatient dental treatment.

Paradigm shift in the effective treatment of caries in schoolchildren at risk.

Background:  Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an effective agent for the arrest of caries in children, is easy to apply and can be used outside the clinical environment. Interim restorative treatment (IRT) using glass ionomer cement has also been claimed to be a simple and effective method to arrest caries in deciduous teeth.

Materials And Methods: The 10-item Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score (DVSS) was translated into Brazilian Portuguese according to a standard methodology: translation, synthesis, back-translation, Expert Committee, and pre-testing. After the translation process the final version was pre-tested and patient responses were analyzed to identify necessary modifications.

Mandibular osteomyelitis and fracture in a patient with pyknodysostosis.

Pyknodysostosis is a rare, recessive, hereditary, autosomal disease belonging to the group of bone dysplasias. Complications such as osteomyelitis and fractures of the mandible are not uncommon and appear in the most varied forms. We report a case of chronic osteomyelitis with subsequent mandible fracture, which was successfully treated with the use of a reconstruction plate and antibiotic therapy.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis: a report of four cases in the same family.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis is characterized by a slow, progressive increase in the gingival tissue that develops as either an isolated disorder or as part of the clinical characteristics of diverse syndromes. The present case report describes a Brazilian family with individuals from three generations affected. The proposed treatment was maxillary and mandibular gingivectomy with 12 months of monitoring.

Psychometric evaluation of a Brazilian version of the impact of weight on quality of life (IWQOL-Lite) instrument.

Purpose: The impact of weight on quality of life (IWQOL-Lite) is a self-administered instrument that assesses quality of life in obesity. It is composed of 31 items and five domains (physical function, self-esteem, sexual life, public distress, and work). The aim of the present study was to evaluate reliability (test-retest), internal structure, construct validity and discriminant validity.

Odontogenic cysts: a clinicopathological study of 507 cases.

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of odontogenic cysts at the Pernambuco School of Dentistry - Universidade de Pernambuco (Brazil) and compare this prevalence with other international studies. Data for the study were obtained from reports of patients diagnosed with odontogenic cysts between 1992 and 2007. Case records of patients who fit the Histological Classification of the World Health Organization (2005) were included.

Anterior open bite: a case-control study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of sucking habits and facial pattern measurements on the development of anterior open bite (AOB).

Methods: A case-control study was carried out on 60 children aged 7 and 8 years attending municipal public schools in the city of Recife, Brazil. Data collection included interviews with guardians, oral examinations, and facial growth pattern analysis using cephalometric radiographs.

Prevalence of a posterior crossbite and sucking habits in Brazilian children aged 18-59 months.

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of posterior crossbites and non-nutritive sucking habits in 2750 Brazilian children aged from 18 to 59 months. The data were collected by 123 previously trained dental students and recorded on a response card according to the model developed by the Forsyth Institute, Boston, Maryland, USA, for optical reading. Information concerning sucking habits and family income was obtained during an interview with a parent or guardian.

Non-nutritive sucking habits, dental malocclusions, and facial morphology in Brazilian children: a longitudinal study.

The aim of this longitudinal study was to assess the relationship between non-nutritive sucking habits and the presence of anterior open bites (AOBs) and posterior crossbites and their association with facial morphology among 4- to 6-year-old children attending state schools in the city of Recife, Brazil. The sample comprised 287 children, both males and females. The proportion of boys to girls was approximately 50 per cent.
