Treatment of large ameloblastic fibroma: a case report.

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is an extremely rare true mixed benign tumor that can occur in either the mandible or the maxilla, but is most frequently found in the posterior region of the mandible. It usually occurs in the first two decades of life and is associated with tooth enclosure, causing a delay in eruption or altering the dental eruption sequence. AF is diagnosed on routine radiographic evaluation and is clinically and radiographically similar to ameloblastic fibrodontoma and odontoma, which makes an accurate diagnosis mandatory.

Malignant tumours that have metastasized to the oral and maxillofacial region from distant sites account for only 1% of all malignancies of the jaw. These metastatic tumours are most often located in the mandible, and the majority of these in the molar region. The most common primary sources of metastatic tumours found in the oral region are the lung, kidney and prostate gland for the males, and the breast, genital organs and kidneys for females.

Nonnutritive sucking habits in Brazilian children: effects on deciduous dentition and relationship with facial morphology.

This study assessed the relationship between nonnutritive sucking habits, facial morphology, and malocclusion in 3 planes of space (transverse, vertical, and anteroposterior) in 330 Brazilian children (4 years of age) attending state schools in the city of Recife, Brazil. The data were collected by interviews with the children's mothers or minders and by clinical examinations carried out by a calibrated examiner (kappa = 1). The chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and multivariate analysis were used for statistical analysis.
