Introduction: Despite the established influence of gut bacteria, the role of the gut virome in modulating colorectal cancer (CRC) patient chemotherapy response remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the impact of antiviral (AV) drug-induced gut virome dysbiosis on the efficacy of 5-FU in CRC treatment.
Methods: Using a subcutaneous CRC mouse model, we assessed tumor growth and immune responses following AV treatment, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), and 5-FU administration.

Oligodendrocytes (OLs), the myelin-forming cells of the central nervous system (CNS), develop from OL precursor cells (OPCs) through a complex process involving significant morphological changes that are critically dependent on the dynamic interactions between cytoskeletal networks. Growth arrest-specific 2-like protein 1 (GAS2L1) is a cytoskeletal linker protein that mediates the cross-talk between actin filaments and microtubules. However, its role in OL and myelin development remains unknown.

Introduction: Calf muscular vein thrombosis (CMVT) is a type of distal deep vein thrombosis, which is common in geriatric hip fracture patients. However, studies focusing on whether the orthopedic operation has an impact on the prognosis of geriatric hip fracture patients with CMVT are very limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore whether geriatric hip fractures with CMVT affect the mortality of patients within one year postoperatively.

This study aimed to explore the construction of experimental animal models replicating cartilage defects across diverse load-bearing sites, compare self-repair conditions, and examine the role of mechanical stimulation in cartilage self-repair. Experimental animal models were established in rabbits to simulate full-thickness cartilage defects without penetrating the subchondral bone, at various load-bearing sites, including the posterior femoral condyle, anterior femoral condyle and femoral trochlear of knee joint, and the humerus of the shoulder joint. The successful exposure and construction of cartilage defects at the anterior femoral condyle, femoral trochlear, and posterior femoral condyle through the medial extension of surgical incision.

Background: The current surgical methods for managing incisions after nipple excision in breast reconstruction patients are limited. However, double purse-string suture (DPS) shows promise in the treatment of nipple excision. This study aimed to investigate the safety and aesthetic outcomes of DPS nipple reconstruction in early breast cancer patients who underwent endoscopic skin-sparing mastectomy (E-SSM) and breast reconstruction.

Background: Sevoflurane is a widely used inhalation anesthetic associated with neuronal damage, cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases, with iron overload reported to contribute to these adverse effects. However, the mechanisms of iron-dependent cell death (ferroptosis) in sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity remain poorly understood.
Methods: The role of PLIN4, a protein associated with neurodegeneration, in sevoflurane-induced neuronal damage was investigated using cultured mouse hippocampal neurons (HT22).

Objective: To review the research progress related to endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery for breast diseases, aiming to provide references for clinical practice.
Methods: The recent domestic and international literature on endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery for breast diseases was reviewed, then the challenges in their development, the innovative evolution of endoscopic surgery combined with clinical practice by our team, and its clinical applications were summarized.
Results: Traditional endoscopic surgery, despite its advantages such as minimal invasiveness, good cosmetic outcomes, and high patient's satisfaction, has been limited in its development due to specific difficulties in establishing the operative field.

Objective: To develop and validate a multimodal combinatorial model based on whole-brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomic features for predicting cognitive decline in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).
Methods: This study included a total of 222 PD patients with normal baseline cognition, of whom 68 had cognitive impairment during a 4-year follow-up period. All patients underwent MRI scans, and radiomic features were extracted from the whole-brain MRI images of the training set, and dimensionality reduction was performed to construct a radiomics model.

Background: In elderly individuals suffering from hip fractures, a prolonged hospital length of stay (PLOS) not only heightens the probability of patient complications but also amplifies mortality risks. Yet, most elderly hip fracture patients present compromised baseline health conditions. Additionally, PLOS leads to increased expenses for patient treatment and care, while also diminishing hospital turnover rates.

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone malignancy in children and adolescents. Overexpression of polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) is frequent in osteosarcoma and drives disease progression and metastasis, making it a promising therapeutic target. In this study, we explored PLK1 knockdown in osteosarcoma cells using RNA interference mediated by high-fidelity Cas13d (hfCas13d).

Defensins are a class of small antimicrobial peptides that play a crucial role against pathogens. However, recent research has highlighted defensins exhibit the ability to influence cell cycle checkpoints, promoting or inhibiting specific phases such as G1 arrest or S/M transition. By regulating the cell cycle, defensins impact the proliferation of normal and cancerous cells, with implications for cancer development and progression.

The nasal skull base is located into the deep position of nasal cavity and closely related to important nerves and vessels. The complete removal of tumors in this area poses a complex surgical challenge. In order to investigate the clinical efficacy of utilizing free middle turbinate mucosa (FMT), fascia lata, and pedicled nasal septum flap (known as the Hadad-Bassagasteguy flap, HBF) for the treatment of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea, a retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data from 65 patients who underwent skull base reconstruction following endoscopic resection of nasal-skull base tumors.

Background: Due to the short operation time and no need for special instruments, reverse-sequence endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (R-E-NSM) with direct-to-implant breast reconstruction (DIBR) has been rapidly becoming popular in the last three years. However, there has yet to be an evaluation of its oncologic safety or the feasibility of discharging patients within 24 h.
Materials And Methods: In this single-centre retrospective cohort study, individuals diagnosed with stage 0-III breast cancer between May 2020 and April 2022 who underwent traditional open mastectomy or R-E-NSM with DIBR were included.

After entering the human body, drugs for treating diseases, which are prone to delivery and release in an uncontrolled manner, are affected by various factors. Based on this, many researchers utilize various microenvironmental changes encountered during drug delivery to trigger drug release and have proposed stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems. In recent years, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become promising stimuli-responsive agents to release the loaded therapeutic agents at the target site to achieve more precise drug delivery due to their high drug loading, excellent biocompatibility, and high stimuli-responsiveness.

Introduction: Blood blister-like aneurysm (BBA) is a special type of intracranial aneurysm with relatively low morbidity and high mortality. Various microsurgical techniques and endovascular approaches have been reported, but the optimal management remains controversial. For a better understanding of the treatment of BBA patients, a network meta-analysis that comprehensively compares the effects of different therapies is necessary.
