Aims: Magnesium ions (Mg) play an important role in promoting cartilage repair in cartilage lesions. However, no research has focused on the role of Mg combined with microfracture (MFX) in hyaline-like cartilage repair mediated by cartilage injury. This study aimed to investigate the beneficial effects of the combination of MFX and Mg in cartilage repair.

Previous studies have confirmed that burns and scalds can lead to metabolic disorders in the liver. However, the effects of severe burns at various time points on liver lipid metabolism disorders, as well as the relationship between these disorders and liver function, metabolism, and infection, have not yet been investigated. This study established a SD rat scald model, macroscopic observation of weight changes, histological staining, Western blot detection of fat browning and metabolic indicators, reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis of the expression of liver new fat generation genes, determination of liver function and inflammatory indicators.

The current first-line treatment for repairing cartilage defects in clinical practice is the creation of microfractures (MF) to stimulate the release of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs); however, this method has many limitations. Recent studies have found that MSC-derived extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs) play an important role in tissue regeneration. This study aimed to verify whether MSC-EVs promote cartilage damage repair mediated by MFs and to explore the repair mechanisms.

Objective: This study was performed to investigate the effectiveness of two surgical procedures, autologous patellar tendon graft reconstruction and trans-tibial plateau pull-out repair, using a pig model. The primary focus was to assess the repair capability of medial meniscus posterior portion (MMPP) deficiency, the overall structural integrity of the meniscus, and protection of the femoral and tibial cartilage between the two surgical groups. The overall aim was to provide experimental guidelines for clinical research using these findings.

Background: The shoulder joint is the most commonly dislocated joint in the human body, and the recurrence rate exceeds 50% after nonsurgical treatment. Although surgical treatment reduces the recurrence rate, there is controversy regarding the optimal surgical approach. Previous studies suggest that the Latarjet procedure yields favourable outcomes for specific populations at risk of recurrence, such as competitive athletes with significant glenoid defects.

Introduction: Targeting the parasympathetic nervous system innervating the airway with pharmacologic products has been proved to improve the clinical outcomes of severe asthma. Bronchial cryo-denervation (BCD) is a novel non-pharmacologic treatment for severe asthma using an endobronchial cryo-balloon administered via bronchoscopy to denervate parasympathetic pulmonary nerves. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that BCD significantly disrupted vagal innervation in the lung.

Previous studies have confirmed that ascorbic acid (AA) can promote cartilage repair and improve cartilage differentiation in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. However, the use of microfracture (MFX) combined with AA to repair cartilage damage has not been studied. This study established a rabbit animal model and treated cartilage injury with different concentrations of AA combined with MFX.

Background: In recent years, the number of spinal internal fixation operations has increased significantly, correlating with an elevated risk of postoperative surgical site infection and a rising incidence rate. While the conventional treatment approach involves surgical debridement combined with antibiotic administration, there is a notable gap in reported strategies for Burkholderia cepacia infection and patients exhibiting multidrug resistance.
Methods: Surgical site infection occurred in a patient following internal fixation surgery for thoracic vertebral fractures.

Objective: This study was aimed to use a digital design of 3D-printing technology to create a surgical navigation template. At the same time, biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) was applied to treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) in animal models, based on accurate positioning of necrotic lesions in the navigation templates and observation of its therapeutic effect.
Methods: Fifteen healthy adult male and female beagle dogs weighing 20 + 2 kg were randomly divided into three groups (n = 5) after establishing a model of ONFH using the liquid nitrogen freezing method.

Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is the initiating factor of adult degenerative scoliosis (ADS), and ADS further accelerates IVDD, creating a vicious cycle. Nevertheless, the role of the Wnt/β-Catenin pathway in ADS combined with IVDD (ADS-IVDD) remains a mystery. Accordingly, this study was proposed to investigate the effect of axial stress on the Wnt/β-Catenin pathway in nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) isolated from DS-IVDD patients.

Articular osteochondral injury is a common and frequently occurring disease in orthopedics that is caused by aging, disease, and trauma. The cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a crucial mediator of the inflammatory response, which exacerbates damage during chronic disease and acute tissue injury. Human Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cell (HWJMSC) extracellular vesicles (HWJMSC-EVs) have been shown to promote cartilage regeneration.

Background: Avulsion fracture of the tibial intercondylar eminence is a rare injury, which mainly occurs in adolescents aged 8-14 years and in those with immature bones. The current commonly used surgery may result in severe surgical trauma, affecting knee joint function and accompanied by serious complications. In this study, we described an all-inside and all-epiphyseal arthroscopic suture fixation technique for a patient to treat tibial intercondylar eminence fracture.

The current research on seed cells and scaffold materials of bone tissue engineering has achieved milestones. Nevertheless, necrosis of seed cells in center of bone scaffold is a bottleneck in tissue engineering. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the inosculation mechanism of recipient microvasculature and prevascularized outgrowth endothelial progenitor cells (OECs)-demineralized bone matrix (DBM) complex.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a fatal comorbidity of critically ill patients with COVID-19, who often end up on respiratory support. However, the safety and effectiveness of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in the treatment of COVID-19 remains to be elucidated at present.

Background: The National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) is currently recommended in the UK for the risk stratification of COVID-19 patients, but little is known about its ability to detect severe cases. We aimed to evaluate NEWS2 for the prediction of severe COVID-19 outcome and identify and validate a set of blood and physiological parameters routinely collected at hospital admission to improve upon the use of NEWS2 alone for medium-term risk stratification.
Methods: Training cohorts comprised 1276 patients admitted to King's College Hospital National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust with COVID-19 disease from 1 March to 30 April 2020.

Objective: Risk prediction models are widely used to inform evidence-based clinical decision making. However, few models developed from single cohorts can perform consistently well at population level where diverse prognoses exist (such as the SARS-CoV-2 [severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2] pandemic). This study aims at tackling this challenge by synergizing prediction models from the literature using ensemble learning.

Background: The viral shedding duration of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has not been fully defined. Consecutive detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA from respiratory tract specimens is essential for determining duration of virus shedding and providing evidence to optimize the clinical management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Research Question: What are the shedding durations of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in the upper and lower respiratory tract specimens? What are their associated risk factors?

Background And Objective: Targeted lung denervation (TLD) is a pulmonary interventional procedure for COPD that aims to disrupt parasympathetic nerve input to the lung to reduce the clinical consequences of cholinergic hyperactivity. TLD has been proven to be a safe procedure and effectively alleviate symptoms and reduce the onset of exacerbation. In the present study, we developed a novel cryo-balloon TLD system and evaluated its feasibility, safety, and effectiveness.
