BaiYangJie (BYJ) is a terrestrial perennial plant commonly used as a Dai medicine and has therapeutic effects on liver and kidney diseases. Cisplatin (CP), a chemotherapy drug, has good therapeutic effects but causes many side effects, including nephrotoxicity. This article investigated the toxicology of the methanol extract of BYJ (ME-BYJ) and its protective effect on CP-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) through pharmacological experiments.

The potential role of serum ferritin as a risk factor for myocardial infarction (MI) is controversial, necessitating a systematic exploration of the causal relationship between ferritin and MI through Mendelian randomization (MR) methods. Genetic data were derived from a genome-wide association study (GWAS), employing the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method as the primary approach. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses were conducted to validate the robustness of the results.

Purpose: Previous studies showed that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and PPARγ coactivator1 family (PPARGC1A and PPARGC1B) gene single nucleotide variants (SNVs)were strongly associated with cancer susceptibility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of PPARγ, PPARGC1A, and PPARGC1B variants with the risk of gastric cancer (GC).
Patients And Methods: We performed a case-control study of 490 GC cases and 1,476 healthy controls from eastern China.

After dengue virus (DENV) infection, antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) is easy to occur when the neutralizing antibody (NAb) gradually decreases to a sub-neutralizing concentration. In this cohort surveillance, we utilized sera samples collected from dengue fever patients at different convalescent phases in Jinghong City, to investigate the dynamic change rule of DENV-specific antibodies, and to analyze the risk of ADE caused by secondary infection with heterologous serotypes DENVs. For baseline serosurvey, 191 four-year and 99 six-year sera samples during convalescence were collected in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) is a major component of tumor microenvironment (TME) and plays critical role in the progression of cancer metastasis. However, TAM-mediated regulation in gallbladder cancer (GBC) has not been fully characterized. Here, we found that exosomes derived from GBC cell polarized macrophage to M2 phenotype, which then facilitated the invasion and migration of GBC cells.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is considered as a metabolic disease with hyperglycemia. Accumulating investigations have explored the important role of hereditary factors for T2DM occurrence. Some functional microRNA (miR) polymorphisms may affect their interactions with target mRNAs and result in an aberrant expression.

Objective: To summarize the clinical characteristics of adult cases of paragonimiasis with lung masses as the main manifestation in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, analyze the causes of misdiagnosis, and improve the levels of clinical diagnosis and treatment.
Method: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical data and diagnosis and treatment of 8 adult cases of paragonimiasis with lung masses as the main manifestation that were diagnosed in the Oncology Department of People's hospital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture from July 2014 to July 2019.
Result: All 8 patients were from epidemic paragonimiasis areas and had a confirmed history of consuming uncooked freshwater crabs.

Background: Although the genetic factors associated with hypertension remain unknown, genetic variations in genes related to ion channels, inflammation, and the cell cycle may affect susceptibility to hypertension. In the present study, the association between hypertension and 10 candidate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) was evaluated among Chinese Dai people, who have a smaller gene pool than Han individuals.
Methods: A total of 1,193 samples from Dai people were collected, including 488 with hypertension and 705 with normal blood pressure.
Background: To retrospectively analyze the pulmonary computed tomography (CT) characteristics and dynamic changes in the lungs of cured coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients at discharge and reexamination.
Methods: A total of 155 cured COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in Yunnan Province, China, from February 1, 2020, to March 20, 2020, were included. All patients underwent pulmonary CT at discharge and at 2 weeks after discharge (during reexamination at hospital).

Background: In this COVID-19 pandemic, the differential diagnosis of viral pneumonia is still challenging. We aimed to assess the classification performance of computed tomography (CT)-based CT signs and radiomics features for discriminating COVID-19 and influenza pneumonia.
Methods: A total of 154 patients with confirmed viral pneumonia (COVID-19: 89 cases, influenza pneumonia: 65 cases) were collected retrospectively in this study.

MicroRNA (miR) acts as a negative regulator of gene expression. Many literatures have suggested that miRs may be involved in the process of cell proliferation, inflammation, oxidative stress, energy metabolism and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Thus, miRs may be implicated in the occurrence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Background: Multicenter retrospective comparison of the first high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other viral pneumonias.
Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical and imaging data from 262 cases of confirmed viral pneumonia in 20 hospitals in Yunnan Province, China, from March 1, 2015 to March 15, 2020. According to the virus responsible for the pneumonia, the pneumonias were divided into non-COVID-19 (141 cases) and COVID-19 (121 cases).

Previous studies suggested that alterations in the energy metabolism might be underlying cancer initiation and progression. Polymorphisms of genes involved in energy metabolism regulation, such as (), (), and (), might confer susceptibility to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and partially explain its pathogenesis. We investigated the effects of several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in three metabolic-related genes (e.

Preeclampsia (PE), a hypertensive disorder during pregnancy, has adverse effects to both the mother and the fetus. Maternal inflammatory and vascular endothelial dysfunction are important factors in the pathogenesis of PE. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of estradiol (E2) on inflammatory and endothelial dysfunction in an N (omega)‑nitro‑L‑arginine methyl ester (L‑NAME)‑induced rat model of PE.

Oxaliplatin (OXA) is routinely used as the first‑line treatment for colorectal cancer (CRC). The addition of OXA to chemotherapy has significantly improved the prognosis of patients with CRC; however, some cases are resistant to OXA. The present study explored the influence of organic cation transporter 3 (OCT3) expression on the effects of OXA on CRC cell viability, and investigated the direct effects of OCT3 on viability, invasion and migration of CRC cells using MTT assay, wound healing assay, reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and lentiviral interference.

Leptin receptor (LEPR) signaling may be involved in promoting angiogenesis and proliferation, inhibiting apoptosis and playing a vital role in the progression of carcinogenesis. A number of studies have focused on the association of rs1137101 variants with susceptibility of cancer, however, the observed results were controversial. We searched literature on the relationship of rs1137101 G>A polymorphism with cancer risk by using PubMed and Embase databases, covering all publications up to 14 October 2018.
