Background: Sperm-associated antigen 5 (SPAG5) is a mitotic spindle protein crucial for coordinating the separation of sister chromatids into daughter cells. Increasing evidence suggests that SPAG5 is overexpressed in various malignancies, functioning as an oncogene. However, research specifically examining SPAG5 in esophageal cancer remains limited.

Purpose: Reflux esophagitis is a condition characterized by inflammation and irritation of the esophagus, resulting from the backflow of stomach acid and other gastric contents into the esophagus. Columbianadin is a coumarin derivative that exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. In this study, we tried to scrutinize the protective effect of Columbianadin against acute reflux esophagitis in rats.

Thromboembolism is a possible consequence of underlying atrial cardiopathy, which can occur even before the onset of atrial fibrillation. Our objective was to examine the association between biomarkers of atrial cardiopathy and outcomes of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) following endovascular treatment (EVT). We conducted a retrospective study that collected data from patients with AIS who underwent EVT and compared the outcomes between those with and without atrial cardiopathy.

Objective: The study aimed to explore the changes in the electrical power spectrum of the brain and its correlation with neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients with cognitively impaired cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and to explore its clinical application.

Methods: A total of 61 patients with CSVD who attended the People's Hospital of Shaanxi Province from September 2021 to September 2022 were divided into the group with cognitive impairment (cerebral small vascular with cognitive impairment, CSVCI group, = 29) and the group without cognitive impairment (CSVD group, = 32) based on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA) score, while 20 healthy subjects were recruited as the control group (healthy control, HC group). EEG was performed in the three groups, and the difference in whole brain quantitative EEG power spectral density (PSD) was calculated and compared between the three groups.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed data from 122 patients with acute carbon monoxide poisoning, finding that specific factors such as brain imaging results, duration of exposure, and Glasgow Coma Scale scores are significant predictors of DEACMP.
  • * A nomogram was developed based on these findings to help identify patients at higher risk for DEACMP, potentially aiding in personalized treatment strategies.

Objective: The intricate relationship between sleep deprivation (SD) and cognitive performance has long been a subject of research. Our study offers a novel angle by closely examining the neurobiological underpinnings of sustained attention deficits through the lens of the fronto-parietal network (FPN). Using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, we delve into the changes in spontaneous brain activity after SD and explore their associations with performance on the psychomotor vigilance task (PVT).

Background And Aims: Cognitive impairment is on the rise around the world, with profound economic and social consequences. Serum globulin, a marker of liver function, may also play a role in cognitive function. Unfortunately, no consistent conclusion exists regarding the association between serum globulin and cognitive function.

Introduction: Electronic cigarettes (E-cigs) are in a controversial state. Although E-cig aerosol generally contains fewer harmful substances than smoke from burned traditional cigarettes, aerosol along with other compounds of the E-cigs may also affect lung functions and promote the development of lung-related diseases. We investigated the effects of E-cig on the pulmonary functions of male C57BL/6 mice and reveal the potential underlying mechanisms.

Background: Chest radiography is the standard investigation for identifying rib fractures. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) for detecting rib fractures on chest radiographs is limited by image quality control and multilesion screening. To our knowledge, few studies have developed and verified the performance of an AI model for detecting rib fractures by using multi-center radiographs.

Background And Aims: Exponential population aging has led to an increased prevalence of cognitive impairment worldwide. Hand grip strength, which may be associated with physical activity, could be a useful predictor of cognitive impairment. However, few studies have reported the association, if any, between hand grip strength and cognitive function.

Objectives: Lymph node (LN) metastasis is an important prognostic factor in rectal cancer (RC). However, accurate identification of LN metastasis can be challenged for radiologists. The aim of our study was to assess the utility of MRI radiomics based on T2-weighted images (T2WI) and amide proton transfer-weighted (APTw) images for predicting LN metastasis in RC preoperatively.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common form of lung cancer and with the highest mortality rate. Therefore, the identification and development of effective methods for the treatment of LUAD is of great importance. The present study aimed to investigate the role of thioredoxin domain‑containing protein 9 (TXNDC9) and tyrosine 3‑monooxygenase/tryptophan 5‑monooxygenase activation protein γ (YWHAG; also known as 14‑3‑3γ) in the progression of LUAD.
